Loved this video! I hope you can create more. I currently work as an immigration specialist at an immigration firm and I would love to become a paralegal or legal assistant. This was helpful 😊

I'm an undergraduate in education and I dont have any previous experience in paralegal, I have 3+ yrs of experience in customer service, what do you think are the necessary skills that can be transferred to this role?

hello! I work in the personal injury field of law so it definitely requires communication skills which, having been in the customer service field, I'm sure it's something you excel at. It also requires problem solving which I'm sure you also have to deal with often so those would be some skills you can transfer over!

@@kendralai hello, for the communication skills, do you need to use advanced vocabulary to be considered excellent/ close to native fluency when you collaborate with clients and stakeholders? Do you use all complex sentences to communicate? I'm planning to have an english tutor help me express myself more fluently since I do have english comm skills but im not that confident and i sometimes pause and grasp for words.

@@VoxYohannah Not necessarily, we do use "legalese" but you learn that on the job! As you get the hang of it, you'll learn what words to use and how to phrase things to get what you want, but that's something you learn and observe as you work rather than through a tutor. However, it never hurts to continue learning! Also, many times, it's better to use straightforward and simple words/phrases rather than complex ones so that you can get straight to the point.

@@kendralai thank you ma'am! What skills should you have or are they looking for? And what motivation?

@@VoxYohannah From my experience and observations, I'd say definitely admin skills and critical thinking! I also think those who have lasted in the field are able to work in a fast-paced environment with hard deadlines, and can manage stress well. They're also more likely to want applicants that are working towards their LAA certificate or paralegal degree, but that's not to say they won't take anyone else because I wasn't doing either at the time!

hi! congrats on your job! I have a question to ask you! is your title legal assistant? is there a Lote of jobs for legal assistant in the United States? are there a lot of jobs available for part time work? what pays more full time or part time? what if you can't work full time and can only work part time? is the salary decent in all over the United States for part time work|? also, for the legal assistant position, do you need a bachelor's degree or associate degree for the title and job as a legal assistant?
I am in the process of getting my BA in Psychology degree program, but if I end up not completing it this year and If I can get a job instead as a legal assistant do you think it would work out? I have an associate degree and I want to know If I can work part time with as a legal assistant
Also please let me know!! I am looking for jobs in the NY area! I hope to find a part time legal assistant position in NY

hello and sorry for the delayed reply!!
To answer your questions, yes, my title is legal administrative assistant. I'm based in Vancouver, BC so I'm not quite sure what the job market looks like in the states! I can't speak for the states, but legal jobs tend to be full time due to the nature of the field of work. However, I do know that some firms may be able to offer part time if you're in the middle of law school and can't commit to full time because of it. Based on experience, full time definitely pays more, but again, I'm not quite sure of the pay situation in the states. I personally have a bachelor's degree in criminology, however, quite a few of my colleagues had their legal assistant or paralegal certificate going into the field of work. I wouldn't say it's necessary to have any of these, but it's definitely an asset.
I don't think I'm qualified to respond to whether it'll work out, but if you're able to get a job, then I think that's great already! I do want to make note that if you wanted to continue growing in your role, you would need a paralegal certificate to go from admin assistant to legal admin assistant to paralegal!
Best wishes in looking for jobs in new york!!

Hi is it hard to manage the roles as legal assistant administrator? Or is it manageable i am from commerce background student and considering pursuing 2 years diploma in legal assistant administration? Your words would be highly appreciated thanks

hello! I'd say the role has a huge learning curve at the start and is fast paced but I think it's quite manageable once you get the hang of it. I personally never took any courses or programs related to LAA so I can't comment on that. I'd say if you're a quick learner and can manage stress and deadlines well then you'll excel in the role! Hope that's helpful and feel free to ask me anymore questions! 😊
