May is really appealing for new players who are into anime. Her normals do good damage and she has interesting oki with her dolphin summons. Although she is deceptively complicated so she isnt that beginner friendly.

I don't know about Baiken, but I went through this for the Sam Raimi suit in Spiderman PS4.
I was just thinking "It'd be cool if Raimi/Tobey had some representation" but some people speak as if there has been assassinations in Maguire's name on Twitter like I should care or change my interests.
It is probably the same for Baiken. The silent majority of that group just hoping that she is back and resembles her prior incarnation enough as a bonus incentive or a bigger reason to get the game early.
This is me af. Baiken is hype as hell but everyone is Strive looks hype. To many character I want to play compared to my actual free time available.

It is such a cool feeling to branch out. You've been attached to a character because you think they're cool. But then as you take a chance on a new character some suck and you hate but then you click with someone else and it completely makes you think of the game differently. Fighting Games are so great.
I remember rolling my friend over with Potemkin, Axl and Bridget. Looking back, I think that's why he never played me again.

I get it honestly. There are some fighting games I just could not get into because no one on the roster "clicked" with me. Skullgirls is one of my favorite fighting games now, but I didn't like it when it came out because I didn't like how any of the characters play, that all changed when Big Band released and I started to have a wonderful time.
I think this problem comes in two types of fighting games:
1. Games with particularly small rosters. Them's Fightin' Herds is quirky and fun, but if you don't like one of the 6 characters in the game you're kinda out of luck.
2. Games where everyone is quirky/weird. This is where Guilty Gear comes in. If you really like I-No's hoverdash, or Jack-O's houses, or Kum and Venom's projectile manipulation, you're kind of screwed when it comes to Strive. There's no one else who comes close to any of those mechanics. It seems particularly bad for fans of set play characters, since they're largely missing outside Ramlethal.
i feel this rly hard because i like jack-o and shes probably not getting in strive, and i like arakune from BB and who knows when its even gettin another real game..
I completely understand, I felt like that with the original blazblue, none of the characters clicked with me, then valkenhayn dropped and I fell in love with the game

FGC Twitter is still Twitter, Soyuna. They don't have the mental capacity to identify as anything besides the media they like.
Not having a character you like or enjoy can turn you off from a game, it happened to me with SF4, sometimes you just want a character because their playstyle or aesthetics really clicks with you.
Of course, trying out different characters is something you should always do, you never know how fun another character can be.
I used to play footsies characters.
Then I picked up a few setplay characters and learned that I never wanted to play neutral in the first place.
I was a sol only player in gg, picked up a secondary cause i was clapping my mates too much, tried pot and now im addicted to glue. 10/10 would recommend.
Good Pot players are scary af lol. I have to be extremely careful or else i simply lose 30% off a grab with Jam haha
Baiken always seemed to be that one character people like to say they play, but yet when you play online you rarely see her at least in my experience . Even Maxdood played her just to quickly drop her afterword's. I remember Baikens old look was more of a rugged beauty with a always pissed off face. I sometimes wonder if that look stayed how things may have turned out in terms of how things are today.

Yeah it's weird when people spend 60 dollars on a game, buy all the dlc, then only plays one character that came out on launch.
I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a character loyalist that has a very strong attachment to the character I enjoy playing, and I wouldn't change that for anyone. But if I lose my character, I'll just support the community in another way. Maybe learning how to organize and advertise tournaments or something like that.
I have strong attachments to my characters, too. But doesn’t stop me from trying new ones. You’re not married to your character; never know what else you will enjoy unless you try it.

@@ANIMEILLUMINATI I've tried before. But I came to realize my only motive for doing that was ultimately for the approval of those around me, when I should've been looking inward for that. I asked myself, "Am I really finding a secondary because I want to, or just to look cool in front of my peers?"
When I became self-aware of my actions, I noticed I was looking for a secondary, but the passion was just not there... I felt inauthentic in my actions. Until I have that authentic desire from the heart to try out another character for myself, I'm content where I am.
Same man. I get into games mostly for a character in particular. A game as it stands really isn't enough for me, even if it's awesome on paper or it looks cool because like, it's how you interact with the game.
Like currently I'm playing Granblue and characters that aren't Bubs kinda suck to play, and Falco got me into fighting games but other Melee characters also kind of royally suck to play.
I can see why people love variety or whatever, but really all I care about is the characters.
@@ANIMEILLUMINATI I always at least do every characters tutorial, and pick 3-5 characters that I liked to seriously learn. However, some games only kept me engaged because of one or two characters. Bbtag is my favorite game right now because yosuke and ruby are so fun, and I periodically go back to mkx to play a few sets as killer leather face and erron black. That’s why I feel for people losing their characters in subsequent games, sometimes, only one character clicks with you. I’m not sure I would ever play mkx or Bbtag if my characters weren’t in it anymore.
As a Sin main I'm sad he's not in yet but I'm still looking forward to Strive. I'm probably gonna try Ky, Millia, and Giovanna.
Huge fan of I-No in the Xrd series, so if course I'm sad she didn't make it in. Took my friend a while to understand that I'm still really excited for Strive even if my favorite oki witch isn't in it. You're completely right. People define themselves by character way too much. I-No's not in, but hey, Anji's a cutie too.

Switching characters is also generally a good way of getting out of a slump when you feel like you aren't improving anymore and tend to spice things up, offering new perspectives.

i mostly have a issue when devs announce season passes before the game is even finished, and the base game has like 15-16 characters. that really made me angry with sf5, i feel like the base roster for strive could've been a bit bigger imo.
I knew when Strive was announced that I'd never get Kum back in, despite having the most fun doing inputs with them in Rev 2.
Sucks but there's other great options and I can always just GO BACK TO REV2 if I want to have that kind of fun again!

Someone I know calls himself a big fan of Mileena and MK. He said he'd only play MK11 if Mileena got in. Mileena got in, he still hasn't purchased the game and probably won't.
Slayer's not confirmed for Strive yet so I'm just gonna play Sol. If I don't unga then I bunga basically.
Have a feeling slayer won't be in the game. From what I've gathered from trailers, nagoriyuki shares some moves with slayer (both have a bite command grab and a dandy step move), but I do expect gameplay differences between nagoriyuki and slayer. Who knows though, could be released later and exist in the same space like ky/sin did

Baiken's really popular and cool and Asuka is supposed to be fighting Sol in the Story so why wouldn't they make him playable now, I'd be very dissapointed if there's a cool fight between him and Sol in the story and we still can't play as him.

I love Baiken, she's difficult for me to use, but I prefer Elphelt over her even though I play Baiken often. But I like having an alternative character that I can practice with, like Eltnum, Orie and Vatista in UNIST, or Blazblue where I play Nu-13, A-12, Celica or Izanami, but it really depends on the game.
I just find her personality satisfying, the one eyed, one armed Japanese samurai that gives little shit about anything just looking for her revenge. I also just love her playstyle, she's gotten me way better at with my reaction time and love the defensive style she goes with cause I get nerves when I've got to make aggressive plays. But I've recently been branching out to Haehyun cause I've watned to get a more high risk-high reward to balance out my comfort zone. Still currently trying to learn the tuner ball variations so I'm in the trenches with Haehyun
She’s such a cool character. Gotta separate her from the fans.

I know that it’s kind of meme, but I mostly care about the function of the character. If their gameplay is fun and has the elements that I like in a character, i’ll play them as long as their design/lore isn’t too wack.
That being said, If I-no doesn’t make it into Strive, I hope that they add a character with a hover dash. Until then, I’ll try Milia.

what is weird for me is that I do not..easily feel good with most characters in fighting games, there is just this small handful that clicks with me, does this mean the characters are still bigger than me or me waiting for someone that is of similar style?
I feel like anyone can learn how to use any character. It’s not like our brains are wired to only play one type. But if you don’t enjoy one, then you just don’t enjoy it.

One of my biggest joy when playing a new fighting game is discovering all characters combos and trying out as much as i can handle for hours and hours and because of this Guilty Gear is a special series with how unique and diff the characters are i genuinely feel that it takes more times mastering GG characters then KoF characters, and that's why i am fine with 15 but i will never say no to more, and aside baiken's two big arguments she has a very compelling play style which is not too hard but not easy and very effective and that makes her very fun to play and people tend to loves this type of characters
this is why i like story modes in my fg they allow me to get attached to and want to try characters i never would've played just because i didn't like the way they looked

I love small roster fighting games, keeps the game tight and makes those few characters feel more thought out.

I'll be the first to admit that, as much as I love fighting games, it's tough for me to have the drive to get into a game if I don't gel with any of the character designs. Liking a specific character so much can actually get me past other aspects of the game itself that I may not enjoy and result in me having a wonderful time.
Case in point, one of my favorite fighting games has been Tekken. I had a good time with 4, but started really having a blast in Tekken 5 - Tag 2, and it was because I picked up the character Roger Jr. Tekken 6 and Tag 2 are some of my favorite fighting experiences to date and even got me to drop SFIV in the later half of its life. When Tekken 7 was announced, I pre-ordered it and was ludicrously excited to play it because of how much fun I'd had in the past. When Roger Jr. wasn't announced for the roster, I was disappointed, but I also sucked it up and considered it a good opportunity to try different things. I was kind of an Asuka player and a Lili player before, so I picked them up but didn't really enjoy the experience. Same with Leo and even Gigas as I tried branching out. I eventually started having fun with Kuma, but I ultimately was 'working' at enjoying the game rather than enjoying it naturally and, before long, I just drifted away. I've tried getting back a couple of times, but it's been the same result. I spent at least 3 games playing a single character and loving every minute of it and that became my 'Tekken' experience. Once, I lost that, the drive to play just diminished.
Now, that isn't to say that Harada was wrong to not include the character. It's his game and Tekken is still great! It's a solid game and I bought it to show my support and give it an honest try. However, that doesn't change that I've looked elsewhere for experiences I enjoy like BBTAG and Granblue. In that sense, I can sympathize a little with folks who are stuck on a character in order to have a fulfilling experience with their favorite games. Some of us really do play because of that 'Reese's Peanut Butter Cup' perfect fit.
At least you tried. I tried lots of games/characters too and later decided I didn’t like them, but I’m still glad I gave them a shot rather than deciding I didn’t like something beforehand.

It's a good thing to main the protagonist of the series. I never have to worry that Sol won't get in the next GG, or no Kyo in KOF
I pick characters that are comfortable for my hands to execute their special inputs with, so for me characters like Es, Baiken, and Narmaya fit the bill. I almost always avoid grapplers and rushdown but Potemkin and Giovanna in Strive might make me try something outside of my comfort zone.
Gg has the most unique characters in a fighting game so I honestly wouldn’t even mind playing a character that’s not my playstyle, I don’t like zoners but in gg I’d be open to almost any archetype. Especially since gg is a very offense based game so it make sense zoners would be still fun to play.
I feel ya. Baiken is literally my favorite video game character, but it’s definitely not stopping me from playing Strive. I’m going to play May until Baiken gets put in the game. Did the same thing with Xrd
Well to be honest I can get the thought process. Its exciting to see what direction the developers take your favorite character in for a new game (sometimes its good, sometimes disappointing though). So I can see why some people might only want to play their one guy. Maybe not to the point where they refuse to play at all though.
When Cross Tag came out at first I was a little disappointed that Yuzuriha wasnt in it cuz I wanted to see how they would handle the stance stuff, but I just tried someone else instead and had fun. Eventually i got what I wanted anyways but still.
It's funny, I've been a ky main for so long that when they announced anji for strive I made a statement that I wanted to learn Anji because I don't want to rely on just ky, and while I can play sol and leo I feel like I should try someone else so I can have a good time besides being locked in, also dittos suck so I need someone to play when people pick Ky

As someone who loves playing Ragna, there's a chance if they ever made a new mainline blazblue game, he won't be in it...maybe. but that won't stop me from trying it out cause there are so many other characters that are sick.

I feel what youre saying, I've been playing I-No in every guilty gear game i've played (Xrd was my first, then I went and played +R after) and since its like 90% certain she wont be in Strive at launch I'm gonna try other people. Going to be there playing on day one, probably try out Nagoriyuki and Ram and see which one I like more. Game looks sick. I always enjoy trying out different characters until I find a spot I'm having fun with.
If there is a character I at least find interesting in the design, I'll prolly be happy.

I feel like you can't even call your character a main at that point, "main" implies you actually play other characters lol. Those type of people only hurt themselves by not labbing or messing around with other characters at all, especially in a 3D game like Tekken where matchup knowledge is even more intricate.
7:00 I get this a lot. I remember when first trying uniel and picking Seth because of how edgy he was, but I was super inconsistent on getting the projectile to hit mid combo.

I usually main another character each entry in the series when it comes to fighting games. The one character that I was consistently playing was Ragna. He's incredibly fun to play in all iterations of BB.
The thing about choosing a character thats too hard is exactly what happened to me. When I first started playing Guilty Gear the first character I picked and played was Ramlethal and I would only win by cheesing with her laser super but like the sword placements and shit I had no idea what to do with that and her combos are reliant on that mechanic. So one day I just picked up Ky in training mode and after a while I started playing better and started having more fun with the game, even if his gameplan is much easier than Rams.
I thought I liked Jiyuna's youtube channel but today I learned he plays Nightmare in Soul Calibur and now I don't know how to feel

I do kind of get the idea though. I'm a Tekken fan and I've been playing the game since Tekken 2. I'll probably always watch and support Tekken. But, at the same time, as a player, I've been playing Hwoarang and Xiaoyu since Tekken 3. I've loved Hwoarang ever since I saw him in the Tekken 3 attract before I even played the game. If Tekken 8 came out tomorrow and Hwoarang wasn't in, I really don't know if I would buy it. As a fan, I'd keep watching and supporting the game, sure, but after to me as a player Tekken is pretty much those two characters to me.
As someone that plays at least 5 people per game, I can adapt fairly easily, but I always appreciated the blazblue method where everyone makes it in every time and they just add more. I like Ky and Ramlethal for the GG series, as well as Answer and Raven, sad to not see those two boys in but it's not gonna make me scream out to add 'em.

I like Baiken's play style, but i will not be angry if she won't be in the roster. I'm hyped for at least half of the roster and i will definitely try all characters.
Eh, I'm always gonna go for the characters that I think look cool to me, since part of my enjoyment is just doing cool shit with a character I really like. Just wanna express myself by going at it with the kinds of things that appeal to me. That said, the range for characters I see myself liking is pretty wide and I don't mind branching and just adding more to that list. The message is really people just gotta broaden their horizons on what makes THE character for them.
I usually gravitate towards fire themed, red colored characters, edgy swordies/knights, mecha, and more or less shoto-like since I love being a jack of all trades, but if they happen to be a grappler, or some other play style, I wouldn't mind learning if I like said char enough. And even then if my main go to theme isn't there, then there are plenty of ways a character can appeal, whether it be their personality, some other aesthetic, or lore, etc. I try to find at least 3-5 characters to like before I pick up a fighting game.
