It’s sad Lego isn’t making castle more accessible to the mainstream and kids. We all grew up with castle and have fond memories, but 20 years from now there will be a whole generation that never played with any Lego castle. Then they just won’t bother with it. If they won’t give us a castle line they could at least make a Lego classic castle piece set to sell with their classic line.
@@battlemarloes9 Lego isn’t making medieval sets mainstream because it doesn’t sell as well . This is evident with the medieval town square rumoured to retire this year with only two years of shelf life. Castles sell well with BDP because it’s a specific adult oriented audience who grew up with the theme.
Exactly. There is a reason Lego doesn’t do the regular Castle lines any more. No matter how much you deny it, there’s been a shift in what the youngest generation is mostly interested in and they just won’t build the same attachment and nostalgia to the theme as we built. It’s much better for Lego as a company to make sets with a limited production run for people they 100% know will buy them, than to make a regular line which would mean less details, less displayability and worse building experience. Nowadays kids wouldn’t buy those sets and for aforementioned reasons AFOLs would neither. It would be pointless. Why can’t we have Castle as our thing? Why does it always have to be about „bringing in new generations”? This attitude has already devastated some major IPs in popculture. Can’t you enjoy the theme without new generations? If AFOLs will continue to buy sets like the lion knights castle or BDP, Lego will keep making them. AFOLs always will be willing to pay more than kids/kids’ parents so don’t worry about not getting more sets in the future.
I get both your points. But Lego doesn’t try to build a series or story around its random medieval releases. So can’t say they don’t sell well because new Gen don’t like them. It’s just that they dedicate so much more marketing wise on the rest, complemented with adjacent products like cartoons, games, etc. Inevitably, random releases won’t get much traction cause of that. Also, due to lack of a series for medieval sets, they don’t get to offer products at various price points under the same trademark, cheap or smaller ones of which can help with people entering those series.
I think it’s good to add to the storytelling of the world if you want a diorama set up or just expanding a medieval display in general. The two sets mesh very well
This set is also a companion to the Mountain Fortress. If you cahnge the crest and the colors on the tent and siege tower with the extra parts, it becomes the Lion Knight's siege encampment. And the siege tower is also compatible with the Mountain Fortress, as you can see on the designer program images at bricklink.
It's what I'm doing with it. I've got Lion Knights Castle and Mountain Fortress, but also have 60 Black Falcons and 150 Lion Knights soldiers, so Lions will be invading

This set feels a bit all over the place and I kinda don’t love that. This definitely feels targeted for people who are already really into castle as more of an accessory pack than a stand alone.
It's a massive accessory kit and is currently missing in the castle theme. Rather than having 10x different builds released as 10x separate sets over the course of 10x years, it just makes perfect sense to combine everything into one release.
The price seems very steep for a collection of small sets, but it looks VERY polished. It fits a lot better to what I already have, so I think I am going to buy this set and pass on the medieval harbour ( I don't have a bigger medieval ship). This review has sold me on the set. 😉
