Man, I'm pleasantly surprised at this one. I'd heard of but never heard Samantha Fish. I was under the impression that she was just one more in a long line of hardass acting female guitar slingers and I wasn't interested. I learned of Devon Allman only recently. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (sans bass player Ron Blair) are the "studio" musicians on the Bella Donna album. Donald "Duck" Dunn played bass on the track for Blair.

OK, on second listening I kind of like this. I think it was actually Erica Blinn in the live video of this. I think I read in an interview where Samantha cited Reba McIntire as a vocal influence, kind of reminds me of her in this for some reason. Not country music, just the was her voice sounds. She did talk of branching out some musically but I just love the way she plays the blues. I'm an old fan of the Allman Brothers and Tom Petty from way back when so this is kind of cool.

So Devon got Duane's guitar strap? Last I heard, it was on Ebay. It was made by Zebo, an old friend. The boys came into his leather shop, and Duane wanted a new strap. Zebo had a big brass ring laying around, waiting for inspiration. Duane used it until he died. Then bassist Barry used it until he died. On the same street! After that, it was stuffed into a coffee can as bad ju-ju. Somehow, the roadie or sound man wound up with it. It sat in the can for decades. He decided he wanted to sell it, and took it back to Zebo for authentication. I can imagine his surprise and pride, seeing that iconic strap walk back in his shop. I guess Devon either bought the strap, or it was given to him - voluntarily, or under court order? Glad it stayed in the family. Now if Dev will just stay off those bikes, or at least that street... Devon's vocals almost sound like Tom Petty's.
I think this is great. It's just as good as Petty and Nicks. Samantha is prettier though and I really like her voice..
