Steve, your not including the ‘65 SS 396 Chevelle as the first year? Was it because it was only available though the CoPo Z16 order programs and not to the public? What do you think?

Yup, just a non-SS Malibu V8. But it did have code "O" Special exterior paint originally.

With the VIN, you win: 1 for Chevrolet, 36 for Malibu V8, 17 for two door sports coupe, 7 for 1967 model year, A for Atlanta, GA assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Lakewood Heights (Atlanta), GA plant closed in 1990 and the last vehicle built there, a square body Caprice was raffled off and given to an employee of the plant in August of 1990.
We got the tag, we can brag: 02C for the third week of February 1967, 67 for 1967 model year, 13617 for Chevrolet (1) Malibu V8 (36) sport coupe (17), ATL for Atlanta (Lakewood Heights), GA assembly, 723-A for Medium Bright Blue bench seat interior trim, O for Special lower exterior paint, 2 for Black vinyl top, W for tinted windshield (aka RPO code A02), 2 (for Group 2 accessories) M for Powerglide two-speed automatic transmission (aka RPO code M35), R for rear seat speaker (aka RPO code U80), and 5 (for group 5 accessories) Y for deluxe seat belts (aka RPO code A39).
