It's a grin seeing how many people turn out to watch this polished beauty chug by. What will the turn out be with Challenger and Big Boy coming to town too? I hope to live to see that.
The scene going through Maplewood verifies the saying that many steam crews have that 'for a railfan, the perfect photo can only be achieved from the other side of the tracks, and then only at the last moment'. No wonder railfans have such an awful reputation for safety.
Ohhhh how lovely....I just saw where the steam crew opened the cylinder cocks on the guy who was standing in the middle of the track at 3:15. Very sweet. I also loved the shot of the 844 going over the Meramec River. I could see myself floating in an innertube there
Well, the Union Pacific's Overland Route, which 844 and her sisters were made to ply while pulling full-length (and initially heavyweight) passenger trains, was over 1800 miles long.
Turn the camera and follow the locomotive. Close-up of it passing by out of view fails to capture detail.Video where your eyes naturally want to look. We naturally want to see ahead and where the train is going.
i hope the mars light will back again on 844 again someday it be great if it returned when it runs in may 2019 with newly restored 4014 but as an oil burner instead of coal burner
Is it possible to use a few seconds of your wonderful footage in a music video? We would credit you in the video. Thanks for your consideration. You can also contact me through the email on my channel. Mark
Up 844's new whistle was for big boy 4014's original hancock
That under-the-bridge shot was amazing.
I would absolutely love to ride in the cab of the 844 for a photo run by. She is definitely the best of the best.

Up 844 pulls bus train
Good Work.
Super Wunderschön Exzellent
I'll bet steam trains were never that clean in 1890's.
they were....washed after runs....if they got dirty then the crew would not be able to see any defects which could cause derailments
Beautiful. Although I want her red headlamp back.
I wouldn't say many, as far as I know, it's just CSX and BNSF (though BNSF allows 261 on their tracks).
The whistle makes it sound like it’s going like 80
How do you manage to get 'ahead' of the 844 so many times?
Es impresionante y muy espectacular
what camera and shutter speed are you using - the video seems "jumpy" like you're using a slow shutter.
& Now Ladies, & Gentlemen The 3985 in 2017 With The Red Mars-light.
