I worked front-of-house with this show back in '83. The cast had come from Liverpool and had the edginess necessary for these characters that you'd never find with full-on West End actors. Listening to this soulful voice again and these haunting lyrics takes me back to a wonderful period of my younger days.
Saw in 83/84 was blown away, got me interested in singing, not good enough to sing professionally but sing every day to make me happy( married a concert oboist who loves me to sing)thank you Barbara
I remember this, I think from an old documentary called 'Butterflies', which covered a number of female singers. Please tell me I'm not imagining this. It was so affecting, I remember every word of this song. I think it sort of fitted in with the then popular 'Boys from the Blacksuff'; by Bleasdale. Also, I think Willy Russell wrote the song. I know he wrote the play. More importantly for me, as a working-class kid (about 20 years old at the time), the song affected me deeply. And still does. Also, Barbara, is simply one of the best singers there is. And has ever been. Up there with the greats, for me.
@@BarbaraDicksonOfficial Thanks, Barbara. Yep, I remember that now, 'Ladybirds'. My Dad recorded it on a video-cassette. We watched it many times as kids. Good memories. Hope you're keeping well, and best wishes.to ya. :)
Gareth Bisgrove I disagree the follow spotter was clearly experienced and the lighting designer was keeping it subtle so as they didn't distract from the performance. I feel it was just the camera quality
In 2024 its even more relevant than ever

Adele, I would have been in the audience on one of those nights. Such a great show.
Fantastic performance. This Scottish lass, from folk, rock, and musical theater, is spot on. Greetings from New England USA.
Words ... and the voice of Barbara Dickson
By far the best Scottish female singer …different class 🌹
No one sings it quite like Barbara does. That deep emotional pull is so gripping and utterly compelling.
I love Barbara, only her voice can do Blood Brothers music justice❤❤
And Mel C ❤
@@PH_1964 No! Mel C nice enough but she's just not in same league as Barbara Dickson.

Adore blood brothers so much x seen multiple times
So perfect. So sad. So true.
What a beautiful song sung beautifully by a beautiful lady.
in the play it has such a sad meaning
Way back when I saw Barbara in the original West End production of "Blood Brothers." I loved her in the role.
Still the best Mrs Johnstone. Such a haunting voice perfectly suited to this role.
@@adeleweiss8130 I also had the luck to see her in the role. I think I sobbed my heart out throughout the performance. It was absolute perfection.
@@dpnice7721 that’s two of us who had their hankies out!
Saw Barbara Dickson in blood brothers at Liverpool playhouse-absolutely amazing
What a performance, from one of the rare musicals I actually like.
Stunning singer and musician.
I saw her in 1998 playing this part, was awesome
Barbara gives a brilliant, incredibly poignant rendition!
Best ever. Met her years ago in Manchester, she was charming too
Great song Liverpool has music in it's bones
