& FOREVER, AN EVERLASTING SONG
😮😮
How true, so exquisite.
They are still so beautiful. I'm not so sure about me; timeless talent.
Barbara Dickson's voice is like liquid gold. She hits the high notes without screeching.
I saw her in concert twice. She was a much under rated singer in the UK.
I totally agree. We saw her in Peterborough a few years ago. A very good voice
One of those pure smooth voices like Karen Carpenter! A pitch perfect tone
In the world. She deserves all of the recognition.
Just gorgeous, I would love to have married her!. such class and elegance!
My mum's favorite song. Can see her singing along with the radio to it, making the Sunday dinner, every time I hear it. RIP Mum. xx
❤
❤❤❤
I really love this duet!
'No one in your life is with you constantly. No one is completely on your side'. So true!
Love elaine
Never a truer word said..!!!
yep - never truer words spoken
Until you meet the right person..it does happen. It happened to me.
Ye that my favourite lyric of the song and words of wisdom to live by
"no one is completely on your side"
As long as I'm on my side I don't care
A life lesson 💋💋👊
These lyrics are incredibly heart-wrenching, about the wife and the mistress grieving over the man who broke both their hearts. And their voices are incomparable!
I haven't realized the meaning of the song not until I listen closely to its meaning and dang you're right!
so so so true..!!
@@aireenrazelcoca887 yes, if you listen to the words, Elaine is the mistress. He needs more security than a mistress offers, but the wife sings how he needs his fantasy and freedom. It's really heartbreakingly accurate!
What a performance by both on Chess Boards amazing this hits u like lots blessed the 80s the pinnacle my spirit to guide me back words list is endless to describe how it all went on i take it like it was superb lots of emotions how and what we were doin
Incomparable... as long as you can block out the idea of Agnetha and Frida performing this song.
I heard this on the radio today. For the first time in more years than I care to remember. And do you know what.....I sang - well, screeched - my 50-something heart out. I was suddenly a teenager again. I know it's an age-old cliché, but they don't make 'em like this anymore. This is sheer musical brilliance.
Friday March 8th 2024😮
I'm glad you screeched it out and enjoyed yourself!
Benny and Björn - such musical geniuses.
Absolutely...!!
Ja die beiden sind im wahrsten Sinne Genies .Einfach Spitze Thank you for the Music Björn & Benny 🙏
The lyrics and original idea for chess were by Tim Rice.

Truly they are.
my mum played this when my dad left, my mum died 6 years ago but this song will forever ingrained in my mind because she was the greatest woman in life

This song holds one of the most gut-wrenching lyrics I've ever heard: "No one in your life is with you constantly. No one is completely on your side."
Even typing it drew out a tear.

@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Barbara Dicksons voice is amazing…
These songs will live on for ever, there's nothing to get anywhere near them these days!
Elaine is excellent. Her voice is very here and now, so sweet and very human. Barbara's voice is like something in a dream, sounds like an angel, with a heavenly voice that is both strong and soaring that you can hear from the best church singers. They compliment each other.
Totally agree bro.. best summary.. elaine has the most beautiful voice and barbara is so powerful
In other words Elaine plays the role of the young lover where as Barbara plays the role of the more mature experienced role.
Two legendary ladies singing one legendary piece of musical theatre.
Songs don't much better than this - period!
This really is a duet of such magnificent proportions.
Jimmy Young They got an oportunity to sing an ABBA duet. How could they refuse?
Best duet was by Whitney Houston and her Mother....try it...
Absolutely fantastic ❤️

Elaine Page has such a strong voice but Barbara Dickson has that exquisite and classy tone. I could listen to Barbara all day!!

Still listening 2019, this was a time when people were famous because they had talent, not just because they had been on love island, come on bring it back.
We live in an age of mediocrity.
@Damian Cairns Euphemism for reality tv.
@@matrimcauthon7937 I think you are being too generous, mediocrity would be a step up.
Er, I think you'll find that there are still talented people around. Then there were celebrities of questionable talent around when this was in the charts.
Realistically no one fucking cares who jumps on the Love Island train. It might be popular during the summer time when people have the right to jack off to it but after August, people get on with their lives and forget about those contestants on the show.
You could imagine agnetha and Frida from ABBA singing this together. Written by the ABBA boys + tim rice. + one night in Bangkok. Two massive hits from the chess musical. Xx. Chess is deep ...but Brilliant. Xx
Thank you for the info!😊
More to the point, THIS, along with 'One Night In Bangkok', 'Nobody's Side' & 'Heaven Help My Heart', plus virtually all the songs given to the Gemini Swedish duo for their 2 80s albums were to be ABBA's next songs if they hadn't split, and like with Gemini (though they are fine) we have to take them like this with these singers standing in well for our lovely A&A because no other version exists.
Have you seen this version?
th-cam.com/video/v8q0v1FIX7U/w-d-xo.html
When we were living our way thru the 1980s, charts overflowing with this quality of music, I for 1 took it all for granted.
80s when we really lived...never forget...BEST times ever!!
Please do analyze this. Some women go for the looks, instead of getting to know the person. Sometimes, when women wants their man to be committed to her, he is not ready, which leads to the realization they made a mistake.

One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, with two superb voices, the ABBA influence is there, I can imagine Anna and Frida singing it,
Yes it sounds like an ABBA song; they should do this one now they're back together!
I would love to hear that.
@@tricktrick-cp5piAgnetha*
Watched a doco in early 2000's, they had interviewed some "studio tech" that had worked with ABBA "rumor has it" they have sung it & other Chess songs, only in a studio/informal/messing about way. The boys were playing around/drafting/writing Chess music in those last years of ABBA 81 -82. " I know him so well" is taken from ABBA's I Am An A and there are other cross overs of Chess music to ABBA songs. There was supposed to be another album after Visitors ( new material) 82 but didn't happen. Late 82 -83 it was full on for the guys to complete Chess & girls doing there own thing. I could imagine them doing it trying sounds/lyrics etc. Yes for sure would be something to hear for sure.
Thank you Norman for that information, I appreciate you taking the time to reply, I would love to see the ABBA girls do the song, even the film clip could be similar. I saw ABBA live in concert in Sydney in 1977, one of the highlights of my life. @@normandunckley3926
Long live Chess, and the fans of Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson for this Wonderful song

So true...
A million times better than now ! 💖💖💖💖💖💖

My dad knew Barbara’s family in Dunfermline where we are from. Although we stay in Rosyth.

Lyrics hit me deeply😢😢😢😢😢
Why are people gormlessly commenting about who they would like to hear sing this song. The two ladies singing it here are peerless.
It makes you wonder, doesn't it Alan
Well, considering it's written by B & B, how Agnetha & Frida would've handled it with their ridiculously übersynced harmonies and voices would be a treat.
there is another interesting version sung by Whitney and Sissi Houston.. magnificent too...
@@fylaxx seeing that this song was also written by Tim Rice for the stage show Chess Elaine singing the song makes a lot a sense.
@@fylaxx No it wouldn't! Outside of ABBA both A&A are as dull as ditchwater.
Two of the greatest female voices in the business. Both have a fabulous set of pipes.

These two just go hand in glove, and blow this song out of the park.
Total respect to a duo that have stood the test of time.

They don't write phenomenal music like this anymore. First time I heard this song and the soundtrack to Chess, I was around 14 years old. Till this day I am amazed by this song. I still listen to this music and it brings me back in time. I hope someday they bring back Chess to Broadway.
Huge respect for both of these ladies. For their voices and for performing so near to naked flames with that amount of hairspray.

That has never been in doubt
Can you imagine this as a duet by Agnetha and Frida!!! Would have been awesome too.
Definitely 👍
I never heard of this show. I heard the Whitney & Cissy Houston’s cover and that brought me here. I’m thankful for this. I love this version and the purity of the original ❤
All these years, I too never knew Whitney and Cissy's version was a cover. This Barbara Dickson and Elaine Paige version was a huge hit in Britain, but not the United States. That might have influenced Whitney's decision to cover the song.
Just a couple of years before this, Barbara Dickson did a cover of Stop! In the Name of Love by The Supremes. The Supremes version is a classic of course, but Barbara Dickson's version was pretty good and very contemporary sounding for the 80s.
@@Tes7000 I’m definitely going to have to look up that version of Stop! In the Name of Love! Thanks for the recommendation!
I forgot about this song, came across it today and it hits different now 😔 Like a punch in the gut
This is a great song that got to No.1 in the UK Charts in February 1985.
I've noticed that 294 people hate this song. Why? This song is an absolute beauty.
Sadly, this song, these two ladies, and this record aren't well-known in the U.S. I'm so grateful I stumbled across it on TH-cam..
I think that may be at least partly because when Chess opened in American the part that Elaine Paige played in London part was played a different and the musical was not a success in America. On a slightly different note Did you know Elaine Paige was also a actor co-director on Anything Goes?
Who is still listening this beautiful song in march 2021 the same with me???? This song make me back to the old past and remember beautiful memories
I will never tire of this duet. There are many to chose from on the Tube, but this version just does it for me.

Barbara Dickson sings so effortlessly
Anyone else old enough to remember when this was no 1 in 1985? I was 10 and remember it being announced on Top of the pops.

Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson both have such amazing voices. Two great dames of the music world!!!!
Another Benny & Bjorn masterpiece
This Song Gives Me Goosebumps
Barbara Dickson is so amazing
All I want is that Frida and Agnetha would sing this. Imagine the blend of their voices on this..
That should have happened.
It would be amazing.
Why??? They are hugely less interesting as singers and performers that EP and BD. Both these women are hit makers and award winning actresses in their own right - real individual stars - and both continue to have wonderful interesting careers. Dickson in particular is glorious - a great voice, a fine musician and songwriter.
That would indeed be cool.
Они пели это, поищите в интернете. Но мне больше понравился, как ни странно, этот дуэт
Haven't heard this song in years still love it 😢
But it dont sounds old
Absolutely timeless and peerless. One of the few duets I play regularly and still enjoy it as much as the first time I heard it.

Back in the day, being vulnerable in love, admitting one's mistakes, being honest about how you feel, and letting go without holding a grudge were all good things. Hence the poetic songs of the 80s and 90s.
It's May 2021, and this song is STILL AMAZING.

Excellent, classy song. Still remains the best selling song by a female duo in the UK. Yet another number 1 for Benny and Bjorn
Beautiful music by Benny Andersson, Tim Rice and Björn Ulvaeus
The ABBA sound without the girls, imagine that…the girls……...

I was thinking how much this song sounded like ABBA, that very moment I saw your comment.
The music truly is something to behold, isn't it? These two musicians and singular lyricist are the reason that Chess is my all-time favorite musical.
I didn't discover this emotional masterpiece till this year. Can't imagine anyone else singing it but these two. Their voices are perfect together.
The way their voices sound together at 2:28 is beautiful
Beautiful! We are blessed to have such beautiful female singers throughout time. Elaine Page, Barbra Dickson, Celine Dion, Susan Boyle, Vera Lynn, Whitney Houston and so on.
One of the greatest, most heartbreaking songs ever written. And amazingly performed here, despite the almost ridiculously 80's visuals...
I absolutely adore this song - this version of it - and sing it at karaoke when I can find someone to sing it with me; it's just a beautiful song - full stop!
Check out the brilliant sendup of it by Susan Boyle and Peter Kay (in drag), done for Comic Relief. It's visually hilarious and musically really very fine indeed. (Madness!) 😉

Every so often a theatre troupe somewhere revives it, so perhaps you will. "Chess" is like those cult classic movies, they never disappear...
It was a beautiful musical. At least you have this wonderful music to listen to

I find the song so moving. It's like the feeling of absolute heartbreak set to music.
Nowadays, they don't make this kind of beautiful music like they used to.
Such an iconic song written by two pillars of modern music... And performed by two superb singers of the modern era...
Two mind blowing vocalists....in an amazingly cheese 80's video. Raised in the 80's. Love the 80's.

Why do u say true? Some of us know how to be loyal and completely on someone's side. Just not every person in your life deserves that level of respect and loyalty, regardless of how long u may have known them.
Should of won an Oscar for her performance, let anyone the song. Her eye contact is off the scale!!!!
I know this is a classic but I was looking at some recent Barbara Dickson TH-cam videos....and her music has so much more depth and interest these days. She is a proper musician, plays guitar and keyboards and is a fine songwriter. Her 'When Shadows Meet the Light' is superb. Its just a shame that for most people Barbara is only remembered for this song and its big hair/shoulder pads/lip gloss etc. She is so much more interesting. ...
Thanks for the vector! Didn't know any of that about Barbara...
Correct title is "Where Shadows Meet The Light"
How Genius Benny Anderson who creates this song. Combines with 2 beatiful singers. Perfecto!!
Elaine Paige is great, but this song really shows the richness and power of Barbara Dickson's voice. He timbre is exceptional
Benny Anderson is used to writing for soprano and contralto combo with the ABBA girls: the guy has a brilliant ear and apparently can’t read a note of music: total genius.
I have always loved Barbara Dickson's exceptionally beautiful voice. ☘
Exactly. The timbre and the warmth and depth of that voice. The note on the first syllable of "younger" is a spot I could occupy for a long time.
Love Barbara’s voice and she is very versatile too!
Barbara was a folk singer! they have a richness, depth and exceptional timbre to their voices just like Judith Durham of the Seekers
Absolute classic and 2 best singer's together cant go wrong.....
Always, the one most great and beautiful ballads
I play it every day without ever thinking I’d grow tired of it . . . It’s one of my 3 songs chosen for my funeral along with ‘California Dreaming’ and ‘Whiter shade of pale’ . . . I could have picked a thousand others but I won’t be around to argue my case!!

And in April 2023! Hi from Victoria 🇨🇦
This song will go down in history, as one of greatest power ballad duets of all time love it
Listening to this song makes me feel like a teenager again... The sounds, the fashion, the hairstyling - these were "state of the art" in the 80's... And I miss these times so badly (ok, not really the cloths an the hair...). But the feeling, these days, when life seemed to be endless, when you couldn't imagine, that the basics of your life could ever change, when you had no serious problems, when every single day was a new adventure, always wit a happy ending... Memories of a better life and better times. I miss these times, I miss my youth.
"But it's over, it will never be the same"...
I am listening while quarantined in a nursing home where I live. Watching videos found some old favorites.
