When I was a little Soviet kid I read (from an old science book published in Moscow in 1970) an article about this, the robot smoking a sigaret just to show that smoking is bad. Now I have a chance of seeing it all with my own eyes! You know this is really amazing, like a true time machine that sends me back to witness this event.

Fantastic footage. Robot less than I'd expect even for 1939. Pretty sure Elektro's speech was not response at all but just a pre-recorded monologue spoken in an exaggerated robot voice.

I was wondering the same thing too. IMDB says its Technicolor, but from the looks of things I would say two-strip because it lacks the vibrancy and saturation of three-strip. Also, three-strip cameras were massive and not very suitable for this kind of location shooting.
