Not everything needs to be PG13.
I say that as someone who didn't watch game of thrones specifically because it's just more HBO garbage. The nudity is cringe and the stories are always boring. HBO makes some of the lamest shit on planet earth. Sopranos was a 6 out of 10 show, and it's the best thing they've made.
The shit HBO makes is not for me. The stuff Disney makes is probably not for you. That's OK.
Not sure why everything needs to be made for everyone these days.. The focus on mass appeal is literally what ruined video games. Like Spiderman, those games play themselves and sell a bazillion copies. Literally zero skill needed, the story is lame, spiderman is boring, the graphics is the main focus. Game made for the lowest common denominator.
We don't need more tripe made for the average joe. We need more stuff that's directed to specific audiences.
Don't like it? Don't watch it. There has never been more entertainment available for us. A story about a witch was never EVER going to be a hit with everyone. No one set out to make this a show with extremely broad appeal. That's great. Cause that strategy is what made Star Wars ep. 7-9 bland as hell. Trying to please everyone and letting everyone down.

I grew up when the violent scenes weren't as graphic and a lot of things were implied instead of acted out in detail, with the emphasis on story lines, character building and subtle emotional perspectives. That doesn't mean our dramatic entertainment was infantile. I love superhero films too and watched the new resurgence in the movies for a while, until it became just a graphic gore fest. Don't patronise me with Harry Potter suggestions 🤣

I’m gay and I think representation should reflect reality. About 5-7% of the population is gay (many claiming to be just for fun I guess.) So why is it that every single movie, every single film series, every single video game has to have the obvious stereotypical gay people? I think it’s ok if there’s like 1 or 2 characters that are gay; but 1: don’t emphasize on the sexuality itself, but the character. And 2: have them stand out from the stereotypes with, get this…
    ✨ Giving them personality ✨
Back in Overwatch 1, the way they did representation was great. Soldier 76, one of the most popular characters was revealed to be gay back in a comic, and all that was said was a dialogue between him and another character talking about his previous boyfriend, Vincent. That was it. Everyone was like “Oh, he has a boyfriend? Cool.” His personality didn’t change, his character didn’t change, his story was just *expanded* through his past and personal life through his sexuality, but it was not what made him a good character because they had already made him a good character to begin with and added his previous relationship to further expand his story.
Now however, we have original characters being turned bi (Baptiste) and lesbian (Pharah), an obnoxious nb (Venture) and a character whose entire personality is being pansexual (Lifeweaver).
Does anyone else see the difference? The first was a healthy form of representation. The 2nd is a clear agenda being overdone and pushed down people’s throats, ruining characters and making their sexuality or gender identity their only trait.

    • @NekoKurui-Chan
      @NekoKurui-Chan 10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +14

I think it all depends on the setting the story is taking place in. In Star Wars, it wouldn't make sense to have so much gay in it because the setting covers multiple planetary systems with all kinds of different alien species and whatnot, whereas a setting taking place in a lesbian bar of sorts, it would make more sense that at least most of the people there would be lesbians. It really just seems like most modern Hollyweird writers can't comprehend how overbearing and important the setting of a story actually is.
Sorry if this sounded condescending in any way. I just get fired up about bad Hollyweird writers. 😅

I’m a big fan of BL and things like that, BUT this isn’t as much “representation” as it is cramming things down people’s throats. There is no need to expose children to sexuality. Kids are developing and they don’t need anymore confusion and fear than they have as a small child.

I don't agree with you. I hate forced womaness, however I think it is important to normalize non-heterosexual relationships (without sexual activities! kisses and non-sexual physical contact are not included) in front of children e.g. 'The Owl House' which treated a lesbian couple like any other relationship without damaging the plot with "gayness"

    • @NekoKurui-Chan
      @NekoKurui-Chan 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +5

@@sikorilzcx4513 I feel like if you're going to show kids romance, they need to at least be somewhere in their teens or preteens. Young kids are very impressionable and don't really understand romance that much, so it won't really do that much for them, and at worst it can cause behavioral issues if the kid has certain neurodivergencies. (It doesn't get talked about a lot, but even seeing Disney princesses and princes kiss caused me to develop some tendencies even to this very day. I'm not very comfortable bringing them up.) This also goes for heterosexual love. I'm referring to all kinds of love here.
I watched some of The Owl House. I liked the relationship dynamic of Luz and Amity, I just didn't like how young they were. It would've made sense if the child characters were at least in their older teens, especially since the way they were written would support them being in that age range better. They were more mature than the general group that is 12-14 year olds. They did do a good job of not making that the center of the plot though, which I will wholeheartedly agree with.
If it gives this argument any more validity, I'm bi and I'm not against telling kids about different ways of love in general. However, there are different ways to explain those things to them in ways that are age appropriate. I could go into what ways I think are age appropriate for certain age ranges, but that'd be a whole essay.
Feel free to disagree with me. That's your right too. I ain't coming after you if you don't. I was just offering some different insight.

@@NekoKurui-Chan I understand what you mean. Until puberty, series generally shouldn't explore sexualities or romance, however, I would again argue that children get "crushes" before that which can be created by physical appearance or friendship-to-crush. So a child feeling "attraction" to another girl is not strange, not sexual or even romantic, just an indescribable attraction that gives butterflies in the stomach. A perfect example is from Pokemon between Ash and Misty, clearly they have "crushes" on each other, or even Kim possible or Mabel from 'gravity falls', or American dragon: Jake long
I live in Sweden so my opinion may be biased, as it is legal to have intercourse at 15 and therefore seeing 15-year-olds kissing (not making out) is not strange to me. But I agree children should not be kissed more than on the cheek or a quick kiss.
*However, there are different ways to explain those things to them in ways that are age appropriate. I could go into what ways I think are age appropriate for certain age ranges, but that'd be a whole essay.*
actually I would be very curious how you think they can present all the romance in front of children in a natural way, but a shorter summary please :)
*at worst it can cause behavioral issues if the kid has certain neurodivergencies. (It doesn't get talked about a lot, but even seeing Disney princesses and princes kiss caused me to develop some tendencies even to this very day. I'm not very comfortable bringing them up.*
I don't understand what you mean here. Of course, you don't need to explain from your own experience with sensitive information, but I personally have never experienced anything negative with relationships in children's series/Disney, for example, I was taught that cheating are wrong in 'Hannah Montana' (Jake) and 'Good Luck Charlie (spencer)

I am aware that kids get crushes. I actually had this sort of pseudo-crush on my female best friend way before I hit puberty. I had wondered what it would be like if we were dating at certain points. We were very close to each other. I don't think someone really needs to explain to kids that young why they're having crushes. I'd just leave them be to that little bliss of theirs. 🙂
I live in the U.S. Here it's generally discouraged for kids to not engage in sexual activity before they become legal adults. The federal age of consent here is 18 and that's when someone is legally recognized as an adult. There are sex ed programs in most schools here that teach kids (usually teenagers) about safe sex habits and std's. There are some things they teach in sex ed that are somewhat arguable, but I understand why they have it. The best thing to teach them (or try to anyway) is ultimately going to be abstinence. While they may have access to certain protection measures, they won't generally have access to gynecologists or urologists (that would be really weird in all honesty), and they won't be able to take blood tests to make sure they don't have any transmittable infections. All this stuff you usually need to be a responsible adult with your own health insurance, it's just a whole hassle over here. Thing is kids wouldn't likely do these things if their parents were responsible and actually protected and raised their kids. It's sad the pure amount of lazy parents we have out there.

There have been a number of movies and TV shows over the last couple decades that have had openly gay characters. But they didn't focus the show on them being gay. They were just one of the characters in the ensemble who happened to be gay. A show I recall in recent years had a gay couple as the next-door neighbors to the main characters. And they were just the next-door neighbors. No special emphasis on them being gay. Sure, when they first moved on the block, while the main characters welcomed them, some neighbors were less than social. But they won them over just by being an average couple - who happened to be gay. No hard sell, no demands, just doing every day, ordinary suburban things. The writers focused on the stories, not the fact that two of the characters were gay.

And sex doesn’t equate good writing or an intriguing story. Just like sex isn’t necessary to a story. 9/10 you don’t need to show a sex scene, and i prefer it when its implied instead. Once because if i we bother to imagine, our imaginations are better than the actual scene seen. I now lose a lot of respect for shows that have unnecessary sex in it as I view it as a complete writing crutch. “We don’t have to worry too much about good writing when a percentage of viewers will come in for the sex scenes”

Besides audiences have to think when watching such as movie, and they don’t want us to think-they just want us to be entertained, whatever that is supposed to mean. Anyway, foreign films generally have good storylines, especially the older ones. Amandla saying nerds are gay, that sounds like what typical bullies have been saying about nerds for decades.
And I cant help but mention that awkward pause Headland made between "i am frankly.....into it." What was that? Why the pause?

    You're sooooo necessary!!!!
the most annoying part is the last one you touched, how hollywood tries to make children's content about sexuality and the loud audiences online (mostly adults) try to force sexuality into little kid characters like it was with not only insideout but also luca.
the industry is insisting on focusing on causing buzz online when it clearly doesn't work in the box-office lol
the gaslighting needs to stop and we're not falling for it anymore, well said!!!

I think the pedos in Hollywood are trying to make their exploitation of kids legal. Everything is heading towards it.

I have to believe that Disney is the one that tells them those talking points. I don´t believe that was the case with The Acolyte (here they COULDN´T WAIT) to make that statement. But for Agatha it has to be Disney...and wouldn´t be surprised if they also fed this question to the reporters.
Also, a couple of things regarding this:
    1. Haven´t you picked up the pattern already that, for years, it´s only LESBIANS? I can´t think of gay characters and content. If they are, again someone prove otherwise, they are just characters with no importance. The lesbians are the main characters and the story has to be around them. They are the focus.
...an that´s not just in TV series/movies but comics as well for instance.
    2. Usually the couple is: white and black women. With the rare exception of white woman and Asian or other race.
...not to mention that, the person that comes out with the concept is a white person. Usually a white woman/white straight woman.
    3. Finally, they portray a gay character in AGATHA and it is the most flamboyant/stereotypical gay there is.
...contrary with women, that for the most part, are feminine or regular women.
Rare is the case in productions like SPARTACUS, FELLOW TRAVELERS or NUOVO OLIMPO where the men are either manly or just a regular men.

Cw Had Batwoman as Gay. That's okay. When the story started increasing the sexuality of her character, it gradually began more difficult to watch. Viewership tanked but they persisted more and more and i couldn't take it. Soon after they finally pulled the plug. They hung on way too long. Did any executives lose their jobs?

Batwoman is gay in the comics but there's more to her than that. The TV show was a travesty since they did not even read Batwoman's comics and it shows. Plus the showrunner has a problematic history as well.

I'm just happen to be a lesbian. My sexuality is not my plot armor or something like that.

Watched the first two episodes and thought they were great and were a strong continuation from Wanda Vision. Yes there is some gay and campness but it works with the witch/coven themed story and in no way is forced into the great story and narrative.

Many LGBTQ people are sick of the media adding characters "just because". Inclusion is great. But sometimes it feels fake & forced. It can seem ingenuine. HOWEVER, Queer doesn't always mean Gay/LGBTQ, it also means "strange", "different", or "peculiar". Even if they are straight, characters or people who are outcasts or mistreated for being different or looking different. And I believe that is what the black female actress was talking about at the beginning of the clip. Because it's true. Throughout history, Witches were taboo or outcasts in society. Which many LGBTQ or POC can relate to.

Earlier LGB films like Saving Face and Another Country *had* to have an excellent story; you didn't get brownie points back then just for a gay storyline.
