A theme I am noticing across all your videos is "just enough pressure/force, but no more." I love how you make sure everything fits together perfectly, without overdoing it. You should check out the neck leak checking tool that music medic has. I never call the job done until I check it with that tool. You will be surprised how many saxophones you come across that don't appear to need attention to the neck but, when you check it with that tool it exposes leaks that do not prove visible to the human eye.

Ya made that neck fit... right tight & outta sight ! I wouldda used a crocus cloth & sand it BUT you re much more correct the way you did it I just dont have that tool & even if I had it I would know how to use it properly ! you are a craftsman I m a musician !

I've watched quite a few of these videos and I think that I'm really understanding that metal (specifically the ones you're working with) are not NEARLY as hard as my brain thinks they are. So, many times you'll use such a delicate touch and I'm surprised that its making any difference. This was a great example of it. Such a fine touch and the metal just moves as you need it. Really interesting.

I have this exact horn. Found it in storage in the shop when I was taking inventory, bought it from the boss, and repadded it myself. Was the first sax I worked on. I've also got a matching tenor which is a couple years older. Love both of these horns.
Just like my 1925 True Tone. Gorgeous horn. Almost impossible to play in tune. Upper register is sharp as hell.

Really cool. I would have thought a tapered swage tool with multiple cuts would have worked well, but then how would the collapsing pressure be applied? Learn something new every day.

thanks for the interesting video, I have a Keilwerth The New King , from '68, which needs to be overhauled, and the neck is also rocking, when fit into the body. Watching this, gives me the idea that, when I bring the sax to a repairshop, it all can be done, and she will have a chance for a second life
I also have a '60s New King. It is a very robust instrument. I hope you were able to get yours playing well. They are worth the effort.

This vid is titled Vintage Sax Restoration 1… i’ve looked for the others on the True Tone but to no avail. Hope i’m just going bling in my old age and didn’t see the other episodes for this lovely horn?
This seems like it may have a similar feel to the way a pipe cutter works. Different end result, and dimensionally a pipe cutter blocks a pipe being put onto it the same way, but I am wondering if a version exists where the work piece is stabilized and the tool rotates around it.

Wes, always really informative. I do not know if it ever comes to you for work but do you ever do work on cases? Nobody ever does TH-cam on this, Including getting rid of that rank old case smell. If you do it would be great to hear how the man with a tool for every world calamity sorts out these sorts of things, which affect all of us musicians in some way or other.

Very interesting Sir, I wounder if you could help with a question I have. I have a Keilwerth sx90 Black nickel Tenor. Some of the black nickel on the neck has come off. I was thinking of removing the rest of the black nickel from the neck. I was think then of buffing the then silver metal up to a shine,or even getting it electro plated silver. What do you think would be the best to do ? Do you think it would affect the tone / sound of my Keilwerth?

Wes , how would ho about creating the smoothest sickest finish possible in my Tenor sax neck , I think the finish is creating air disturbance affecting some note Overtones & want to see if a completely (like 2000 grit) finish helps

So how did the repad job with the snap on pads (without floating/shellac?) workout on this True Tone alto? Great video BTW :)
Bravo! However, what you refer to as "a quarter turn" really isn't a quarter turn at all - it's more like "a smidgen." LOL. BTW, I'd love to have you slightly shrink two Radio Improved Alto necks to fit not as snug in my Mk VI. They sound better than the original neck and I'd like to play them (without bear-arming them in and out)!

Neil, I use rubber stoppers to check air tightness of solder joints, bracing and such. I didn’t know there was a specific product for that. Although I should have.
