Keni Burke is giving a FREE CONCERT on June 25th 2022 at The Coney Island Amphitheater in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York. He will be opening for Stephanie Mills. Back in the 70's Keni Burke was signed by Beatle George Harrison for his Dark Horse Records label. He did an album entitled "2nd Resurrection" with the Stairsteps produced by Billy Preston. He also did a self titled Keni Burke album on the Dark Horse label. After this period Keni Burke signed to RCA/BMG for Risin to the Top and a lot more! Now RCA and Dark Horse Records are owned and Distributed by BMG. Would love to see all this great music reissued on vinyl and CD again!
Oh my goodness!!! I have loved Keni Burke and his family ,The Five Stairsteps FOREVER !!!! My parents(RIP) took me and my two sisters to see The Five Stairsteps at the New York’s Apollo Theater when we were children. Not only did their mother and father come out to sing but they introduced the audience to little Cubie who I think at the time was three years old.We all enjoyed the show so much. They were indeed the first family of soul and should be recognized as such. They should be inducted into the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame as far as I am concerned..I love Keni Burke’s Keep Rising To The Top ,The Invisible Man’s Band All Night Thing which are two songs that will NEVER EVER get old and all of the songs that The Five Stairsteps ever recorded !! I was extra proud to find out we share the same last name of Burke which is my maiden name lol.Keni is a great performer and his voice and bass playing are as smooth as silk. I STILL play their music on a regular.RIP Cubie, Clarence Jr, and James. 🌹🌼🌻🌷💐🌸
I knew Keni back in the 5 Stairsteps & Cubie days. Me and my friends would hangout with them. We always had a blast. Keni and his siblings were always down to earth and welcoming! And he can play the strings off of that Bass! I hope Rick James & LL CoolJ gave him royalties for copying his Bass style and Bass riff!!
This one named guy, Keni Burke, may be the most underrated legend of his time. Talent and understated swag - personified. He's serving that bass line like a killa' slam dunk @5:36- 5:52. 5 star performance in my humble assessment.
Wow. What an epic bassline that definitely sounds like it was sampled in Mary J. Blige's "Love No Limit". All these years I never knew who originated this funky groove.
The words to this song ”Risin to the Top”. . . The ultimate Motivation and and supreme Inspiration always in those times when it seems like things are working against me.
They were from my neighborhood in Chicago at the beginning ,..99th & King Drive,...I remember they left a blue Marathon sedan in the yard when they moved !!!
WOW WOW Believe it or not I first heard this about a month ago whilst surfing Robbie Vincent the soul DJ on you tube and he played this track. Since got the album and love this stuff. Maze fan for years how did this pass me by.
Very true, this classic has been sampled by numerous artists over the years that royalty checks had to have fed him handsomely many times over. Also why hip hop is so awesome 💚 as well
I had to come over here to TH-cam and listen to him after hearing him sing this song on DJ Cassidy Pass the Mic - Mother's Day tribute. Where have I been lol. I've never heard of him but I am a fan now. But wait, the female back up singer looks like Sheree from Atlanta Housewives. Is that her? Omg
He was one of the lead singers from the Family group, The Five Stairsteps, right before the Jackson 5, really around the same time….Ooh Child, The Stairsteps!…Clarence Burke (RIP), James Burke (RIP), Dennis Burke, Keni Burke…sister Alohe & little brother Cubie (RIP)…It’s A World of Fantasy, A Million to One, Come Back, Don’t Change, Your Love, Ooh Child… many more!
This is an amazing long version of rising to the top. Enjoyable such a sweet delight to see and hear real music. I hope that Keni will appear in concert in Chicago. I would love to see the family perform together. Dee Dee
Ok, honestly what led me to this was the Nothing from nothing video where I seen Keni with the red hat playing bass with that adorable wink and jolly smile. DANG that was so stinking cute and uplifting! I had to find out where that cutie went! LOl. Found him! lol
It's time for Keni to come to Newark, NJ for a performance ( NJPAC), Newark Recreation Dept., Newark Museum or even the Disco Soul Cruise!! 🛳 🎶 💘 🎸 🎭 🎷 👨 😍
I agree that person howling in the background needed to be quiet or escorted out of the venue. If I paid to hear him I'd be ticked off at the loud audience members voices.
Same thoughts...I actually thought he was about to wave his hand to make the crowd hush ..to be expected of someone standin in the crowd recording this on a cell phone..this is the only reason why we here ...next time get as close as to speaker as possible 🤣😆 ..but hey it’s crowds moment so 🤷♂️
That what people do at concerts they sing the song the entertainer songs the entertainer encourage it that means the audience is enjoying their performance
Keni is still fine!! I don't know what happen but the stairsteps should have been known world wide. They were better singers, everyone in the group were good singers. The Jacksons only had Michael.

as annoying those females are, this is London and it's The Jazz Cafe and it's KENI BURKE, so prob difficult to be quiet ;) But if I was in that audience I would probably feel the same! A legend only comes so often!
funkyswede62 Not exactly a legend. He’s probably only known in the UK for for it’s constant play on Smooth Radio and it being sampled in LL Cool J’s “Paradise” 😉
thats true, but i wish i had tunes good enough that somebody knew all the words to.its a tribute to your work in a way. but she really is getting on my nerves lol.
I can't get past the intro lyrics because of the flat loud out of tune female in the audience. Kenny Burke is cool, holds his own on bass and vocals. But someone needs to throw some water or a drink on this woman just to shut her up.

@@neeceemo Yes Alohe and James were great as well!
I like that bass
I saw Keni Burke and the Five Stairsteps when the oldest one was probably 15. I was 12. In Philadelphia at the Uptown! OK!
I knew Keni back in the 5 Stairsteps & Cubie days. Me and my friends would hangout with them. We always had a blast. Keni and his siblings were always down to earth and welcoming! Yes, they were so underrated! We loved them!
@@EJ-cc1qz No question about it.
Definitely underrated! Loved The Five Stairsteps!
The Five Stairsteps were the original family group, with multiple level harmony. Well before the Jacksons. And they stairsteps vocals were better.
This cat is fiiine, Love this song. I play this every morning at work when I begin my work day.
It's 2021, this is my Start the day tune, every day , it's playing on my phone at 5,30am !

Iv been asking myself that where is Keni Burke not knowing he's still on the must business , keep it up my brother

Keni Burke wrecked that and the five stairsteps were the musical truth
They were truly talented I think Keni started on bass at age 13, The rest of the group were also musicians.

Black don't crack boy! (the crowd can't sing at all)
he sounds wicked
Black don't crack ...you right
My word sure wish the person/ppl singing wouldn't have so I could hear Keni's smooth voice the real instruments, background singers. Healing salve.
Them 2 backup singers are transgendered
Yup , especially if you treat your black right 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
That what people do at concerts they sing the song the entertainer songs the entertainer encourage it that means the audience is enjoying their performance

Stairsteps we're fine, in my book they beat out
The J5
Cubie, was my favorite, did not play! He was about 8 years old, singing his but off.
My maiden last name is Burke. I wonder if we are related.

woiiiiiiiiiii
I think you're all way overreacting to the audience enthusiastic singing; sounds fine to me. Excellent concert footage.
Mi
the sound quality of this video is horrible.
It's supposed to be. It's someone from the audience recording with their phone. That doesn't come with a sound tech.
@@HoopCITY76 thank you explaining that. You beat me to it! 😉
