The TTR250 is a beefier XR250R . Does weigh around 7kg extra . The TTR has a bigger frame, engine is bigger in size. The rear swing arm is bigger, the wheel hubs are bigger , electric start and battery . Yamaha made their last air cooled enduro bike to beat the XR at the end of the 4 stroke air cooled era. At the same time around 1999 KTM and Husky new gen 250 enduro bikes started to become more mainstream (in Australia) and the air cooled 4 stroke era Enduro bike was over .
I have a 99 that is street legal in Arizona. It is definitely an amazing trail I did my first motorcycle camping trip on it and it handles like a dream.
I've had a 2003 for about 10 years. Use it for dirt road commuting in summer. The thing just works. Put on a baha designs headlight and some oversized footpegs. In that time the only things I've had to do are general maintenance, a petcock rebuild and new float valve. Keep an eye on the lower shock bushing, it needs greased once in a while if you ride in wet, muddy conditions.
How about on trail ride like desert single track riding the hell out of like i do my xr250r? Cuz i would like to buy a new ttr 230 cuz of the electric start
TTR250 is a DOHC motor which makes it superior to Honda's single cam RFVC that are notorious for top end and valve problems. Yamaha has a better motor.

Are the 1999 and the 2000 TTR much different? or are they the same basically the same model?
Pre-2000 have a steel tank and digital speedo but mechanically pretty much the same. I own a 1998 and 2004 so know them well.
@@murraydawson8407 just the clutch hub takes one more friction plate in the 1999 upward models
how much does ttr 1998 weigh? how much does ttr 2001 weigh? how much does xp250 weigh?
