For real, you need to be as polite and non confrontational about it as possible. All you need to say is “At this juncture I think it would be in my best interest to speak to an attorney before answering any questions”. Most cops will look at you with contempt and may even attempt to intimidate you, but you keep your mouth shut. People try to talk their way out of an arrest and cops know this and exploit it. Don’t do it.

I agree completely. Her mother, in my opinion, is an incredibly shallow, superficial narcissist who only seems concerned about protecting the family's reputation and maintaining their "good standing" within the community. Never once did she express any concern about her daughter's mental well-being after having experienced such a traumatic situation that will undoubtedly leave her scarred for life, nor did she even simply tell her she loves her. Now granted, we only saw snippets of the interrogation however that was all that was needed to paint a pretty clear picture of the dynamics of their relationship.
I am also quite adamant in my belief that the mother is directly responsible for triggering the development of Skylar's eating disorder and body image dysphoria. As someone who has struggled with body image dysphoria and eating disorders since the age of 7, I can relate all too well with the magnitude of damage eating disorders can have upon every area in your life even decades down the road. And I can also attest to just how incredibly dangerous it is as a child to grow up in that type of environment. My heart truly goes out to Skylar.

Thank God I was never accused of murder because I can totally see myself as a child confessing to a crime just to get the angry adults off my back. Kids are especially trusting on the whole and it should be 100% illegal to interrogate children without the parents needing to sign a written agreement that outlines what they are trying to accomplish as far as charges and what tactics they will use to attempt to extract a confession. The one thing about this video that gave me some catharsis was that her attorney gave her a job. Fuck. Yes. Skylar’s case has always been so heartbreaking. She was a victim of sexual assault at such a young age, suffered with eating disorders, and to top it all off gave birth to a late-term stillborn baby. A person’s mind is still very much developing at age 18, and adding trauma into the mix just makes everything more difficult and confusing. I feel so, so sorry for this poor girl. I’m glad she wasn’t charged for murder and she most definitely deserved to have a fresh start in life. From the very beginning of this case, she was manipulated by law enforcement and had her immaturity used against her, her parents were lied to on multiple occasions, she was framed by the entire country as a murderous teen who just didn’t want to go through the trouble of dealing with an unexpected pregnancy. It all makes me sick.

There's no way you can cremate a body with a lighter and the fact that they tried to frame that child irritated me. Because that's what she is I don't care if she was 18. You have to take each person as a individual. Some 18 yr olds are mature for their age and to listen to her talk and how her mom talks to her and you can tell right away that she's been sheltered and was very immature. I was able to read a full transcript of their conversations up to the birth of annabell and there is zero doubt in my mind that skyler's mother was absolutely feeding the flame of bodyshaming, she was constantly putting pressure on her to be the best, the skinniest, the prettiest, it was disgusting. I also think the she knew about the pregnancy and tried to help her daughter solve her "problem". Poor skyler was literally in a position where the bullying she was on the receiving end of didn't stop when she was around her mother. The pressure she put on her daughter to look perfect was sick.

I like the way you told the story. She was a child struggling with metal health issues, and afraid to yell parents she was pregnant. I was that girl once apon a time. 19 and pregnant. Father had been extremely abusive, mother had remarried and had no time for me. I got into a relationship with a 21 year old guy who became extremely physically abusive. I had started drinking almost every night to cope, and then found out I was pregnant. For one thing, I couldn't bare the thought of a baby being born to such an abusive father ( worse then mine was), and I also feared the alchohol had done damage. I went to terminate the pregnancy while people stood outside of the place yelling to me that I was a murderer and needed to find Jesus. 🙃 I was able to escape the abusive relationship and later found out the x boyfriend had gone to jail for same serious domestic violence against someone else. Even though Skylar seemed to have support, obviously she didn't have the kind of emotional support she needed at that time. Otherwise , I cant imagine why she would endure that kind of trauma alone 😔 and behave as she did. It seems her mother was planning out a life she felt was acceptable for Skylar instead of learning who Skylar really was, but not because she was a bad person or mother. It is a.mistake many people make. We get lost in the roles we play ( in our minds, the story , the imagined, hoped for outcome) and fail to be trully present in the moment. It had to be the case for noone including Skylar to not know she was pregnant till such a late time. I'm sure Skylar, and hee entire family learned from this experience and it's wonderdul that she is going to put that experience to use. I wish her and family the best. 🙂💞💨

What a sad, sad thing Skylar went through. After SA, her mom gave her a guilt trip about her hesitation with seeing a male doctor AND her fear about a pelvic exam?!
As a mom and *almost* WHNP (6mo left):
    1. Find her a female provider
    2. Explain the process of a pelvic exam and help her understand that a pelvic exam is not medically necessary to obtain birth control
    3. Maybe not be so judgemental and unapproachable that your child would be too scared to tell you about a pregnancy and/or come get you when they are scared and heartbroken when they deliver a stillborn baby in your house.
While I think that hiding the body wasnt the "right" choice, that poor girl didnt know what else to do and put her in a place where she could always see her baby. She gave her baby a name and held all that grief inside of her, carrying the loss of her baby alone until she finally told the truth. I'm heartbroken for her. With the information about her measuring small and MD testimony about intruterine growth restriction, she may have been unable to feel baby's movement due to the baby being unhealthy/weak, small, and she may possibly have had an anterior placenta (where it attaches in the front of the uterus and makes the baby's movement less noticable). She may also have a tilted uterus, which can contribute to not having a "baby belly."
She wasn't out partying, she's not doing drugs, she hit the books and soon she will be defending other people just like her, who deserve representation and to be peotected from those misusing the law. She's not a bad person- she needed people she could trust and didnt have them. She made a mistake but she did not kill her baby.

And also, the added info that you didn't need to talk about at all, telling your viewers to get a lawyer even when innocent or how to deal with cops if they're going after your child. Movies and whatnot have made it so that, innocent or guilty, a person who lawyers up looks completely guilty. And, in many cases that I've heard about, the police go after that lawyered up person even harder, which makes it seem like anyone who gets a lawyer is guilty as sin. Hearing from someone that a person looks up to has a major impact, almost 100% of the time.

When I worked at the hospital there was a Skylar-looking girl that was in labor trying to slide in under the radar. It was made clear she was going to be checking out solo. I told her there’s no way her parents won’t eventually find out bc *we were* going to be billing *their* Aetna health insurance. I wanted to tell her this was not detrimental or unforgivable, nothing at all like she was probably thinking, and that her parents would still love and support her. I still think about her.

I have many, many questions and things that don't sit right with me about this case. I feel like people use being 18 in whatever way suits their biases, opinions or other apparent evidence, meaning in this case, you're saying she was "only" 18 but in other cases a person is 18, therefore an adult and therefore is fully responsible. In this case she wasn't learning disabled or anything like that. She was an average intelligent, well supported, financially stable, adult who was perhaps a bit sheltered. But she wasn't so sheltered that she hadn't been having intimate time with her boyfriend...
While i can't imagine giving birth to a stillborn at any age, I do wonder what kind of a person of age 18 who KNOWS she is pregnant, starts having severe cramps but doesn't tell anyone or even call an ambulance or go to hospital by herself... ESPECIALLY when she thought she was much less further along than she apparently was and she apparently said "i really wanted my baby".
As an intelligent woman, didn't she know that she was in labour? Which would be especially alarming if it was happening over a month too soon, to anyone who "really, really" wanted their baby. Hmm.
At that point, wouldn't the fear for her baby's life eclipse the worry and trepidation she felt at telling her parents? This is what bothers me about this case. Then coupled with the absolute fact that not only did she not call an ambulence or otherwise seek medical help when she MUST have known, or at the very least suspected, that she was in premature labour, she didn't bother calling an ambulance when it was ABSOLUTELY certain (she says) that her baby wasn't breathing. Who does that?
Then as she admits, she buried her newborn in the garden... again, what?! What kind of person - one who claims to "really, really want" her baby, just gives birth to a stillborn then buries the baby in her garden... none of it imo makes any sense when thinking about an 18 year old who knew she was pregnant and wanted her baby.
I think that it's possible that the jury fell for black and white fallacy and - rightly, imo - saw the burning confession as coerced but then threw the rest of the evidence out because of that... well, thr burning confession was coerced therefore she obviousky didn't kill her baby or deny the baby medical attention that COULD have saved her life... hmm
Just just try to imagine what would happen if skylar had been 20 at the time - would people have really believed that a woman would do all the things I've described? No, i think they'd convict her of all charges even simply because any adult in law who allows a person to die because of their inaction is convicted of negligent homicide or whatever the applicable term is. So why not in this case?
Despite the skylar-sided slant of this video, i personally don't believe the baby was stillborn. And i do believe the jury felt sorry for skylar, her little girl-esque voice and the fact that she is an intelligent person who could go on to do great things and convicting her would ruin all that forever probably. So yeah, privilege.
I do think this video also doesn't delve into asking what kind of person who wants their baby would behave the way she did - there was a brief explanation about dependent personality disorder - but personality disorders never gets used successfully to exonerate people - it's actually the opposite. It's not a mental health issue, it's not something that stops the person knowing right from wrong. So it's irrelevant imo. No one ever uses someone's narcissism as a reason why they're really a decent person, or shouldn't be held accountable.
That's just how I feel based on everything I've ever seen about this case. Imo she should've been convicted at the very least of causing death by negligence, not giving a proper burial or whatever the correct term is as well as failure to report the death of a child (such as the woman in the Michael Vaughan case).
Why wasnt she charged with those things or the equivalent?
Why was she exonerated of the charges she did have against her when other people have been sentenced to years in prison for similar things?
Idk... if I'm wrong I apologise to everyone involved but some of what I've said is fact and not in question.
She didn't get medical help when she knew she was in labour or that something must be wrong.
She didnt call foe emergency medical help at the sight of a newborn not breathing.
She didn't give Anabelle the dignity, respect, love and care of a proper burial.
All of this is FACT and my mind boggles at how a healthy adult got away with such things. Those things still are true even IF she didn't kill the baby snd even if she didn't burn her (and i don't think she did burn her).
These questions and facts are quite important imo and I just don't fully trust skylars word or her little girl lost persona. 🤔
Something stinks in this case and it ain't from just the police's side. Imo allegedly don't come for me.
What thinks you, the People? (Or at least those who have got through this looong post 😂) im very interested to know and for anyone versed in law why she couldn't have been charged and convicted of the things mentioned herein.
Much love to both of you who run this channel. You do amazing advocacy and legacy work for the children and adults who's cases you cover. And also love to everyone here who cares about victims and survivors. From Kerry in England ♥

@@ladyseason2565 yes it's crazy what's being said in the comments... the poor little girl got railroaded boo hoo blah blah... NO! She gave birth secretly, did nothing to help her baby to possibly live and buried her disrespectfully and disgustingly in her garden. Oh and something i forgot... apparently she put a plantpot on top and buried Annabelle by the treeline so she could see the grave from her bedroom window...
Say, what now?!?!? As true crime officionados, what do we know about many, many killers? They like to keep an eye on their dead victims and will revisit the grave site or disposal site and in the case of Ed Kemper, he buried his mother right by his bedroom window. I'm not suggesting that skylar is a serial killer im just asking the question - why would anyone want to see their dead baby's grave from their bedroom? I imagine grieving parents spend a lot of time at their dead child's grave, but does that mean they'd want them buried in their garden so they could see it from their window? I'm thinking in most cases not. I think she buried Annabelle there so she could keep an eye out in case her parents, or, if the garden is a large as it looks from the photos, in case the gardeners started working or poking around near the grave. But what do i know?
Do you want to know what i think? I think skylar either took something that she knew would make her go into labour prematurely, or she either purposefully smothered Annabelle or purposefully didnt call for help when she saw the baby wasn't breathing because she felt a kind of relief - i think her selfishness and the possibility that she would "only" be a mother rather than a successful professional was too much for her to comprehend and she took steps accordingly.
What was it she said? Oh yes, that's it... "I can't be pregnant, I'm going to college!"

Yes, a baby buried in a back yard is suspicious. But suspicious circumstances are to be expected from someone in her situation. The fact no harm was found to the baby's body and the only things she ever 'confessed' to were things she was demonstrably intimidated into saying, is enough evidence for me that she did nothing wrong.

This case makes me absolutely sick. This poor girl had her life destroyed, and is the best example of why you should never, FOR ANY REASON, believe that a cop has your best interest at heart. She was young and grieving, and they took advantage.
Also, despite it not being what she should have done, her explanation for why she buried Annabelle where she did was heart wrenching and beautiful in equal measure.
The law firm also has to be applauded. They saw a gross misuse of the justice system to destroy the life of a teenager, and took her under their wing when nobody else would. I truly wish Skylar the best. I’m sure she will be a great public defender someday.

She was suppose to go back for prenatal care and she never did. That shows she never planned on this baby to live. I also believe her mom knew. This is because of her seeing the doctors papers that confirmed pregnancy she texted her about it. Then when her parents showed up she was only trying to explain herself to her dad. But above all the girl made straight As. She knew right from wrong. She did not go back for prenatal care. She was an adult and never went back.

Knowing she had an ED, I wasn't surprised when she said her baby was stillborn. Being pregnant when completely healthy is difficult for the body. I'm shocked and disgusted what they did to this poor girl. Especially only having known she was pregnant for 11 days, having not told anyone else and told she still had about 10 weeks, it's no wonder she panicked and went through a lot mentally. I feel she did NOTHING wrong. If she'd been in her right mind, I feel she probably would have called 911.

I really thought at first, the first couple times I heard this case, that she is guilty - especially because of what her mother said and did to Skylar, her mom appears to be a *major* narcissist, & how psycho she acts about Skylar's weight. All this always made me thing Skylar did probably kill the baby because she couldn't bear/was terrified to tell her abusive mother about it either because of how she would look, the effect on her future, whatever it was. She knew her mother would go berserk. So, I thought she probably smothered the baby out of fear of her mother.
BUUUUUUT, the more I listen to the details and the more I think about it, I can't buy it anymore. I don't think she killed the baby, the baby probably died before or during the delivery, or even right after because she had no medical help and had no idea what she was doing to save the baby. Something like that seems more likely to me now.

You have covered an innocent party, bravely taken a stance (which I dare say is absolutely responsible journalism in this case), and brought positive coverage for someone who deserves it. Skylar's parents seemed more concerned about the perception (at least initially), and therefore it is no surprise she is/was a consummate people pleaser or has people dependent personality (I think that's what it was called). To the females involved in this, shame on them for not understanding the fear, confusion, and postpartum experience Sylar was enduring. Everyone made it worse and punished her for mistakes that were actually theirs to own. Where is the justice that should be brought against them? I am a regular viewer and the videos I watch are often happenstance by what shows up at the top of my feed on your channel, and I am so glad this one did. Well done, Misery Machine team! P.S. When I saw this case in the beginning and all we got was fake news sadly I'll be honest and say that I questioned if she had killed her baby. After I saw the interrogation videos I felt in my heart she had not killed her baby. If anything the eating disorder could have kept the baby from getting the nutrition she needed but if skyler didn't know she was pregnant it is a case of not knowing. Sadly I think she had an enormous amount of pressure from her mother. Perfection. She showed little concern for her daughter and grand daughter. Only worrying about what people would think and say. That makes me very sad. Skyler is right she should have supported her. I think skyler was in fight or flight mode. Terrified of telling her mother and knowing the disappointment she would face. I hope that skyler achieves all of her dreams. And can be an advocate for people who may be in a similar situation as she had been in. I hope that she can heal and have a great life and keep honoring her baby girl's memory. I hope that her mother is more supportive of her dreams hopes and aspirations. And that skyler does t let this define who she truly is.

So I'm sorry but that right there proves how guilty they are. I can't see her as a victim. When I was 18 I didn't know I was pregnant but I was only 15 weeks and never showed but once the bleeding started and the contractions started I went to the hospital because I knew something was wrong and then asked them to do anything to save the baby once they told me.
