This is a problem with most perishable crops like potatoes, fruits vegetables etc. issue is simple .markets flooded during harvest leading to crash in prices. Solution is also simple. Have a farmer association through which crop is sold. Control volume to control prices. Association will generate income through this which can be invested in cold supply chain storage
What's stopping farmers/associated industries from turning those vegetables - including onion, into powder ?
Isn't there a huge global market for this ?
it takes some funding and work not to mention not many home users use onion powder it is used by FMGC mostly so

I wish more farmers are able to build their own low tech storage and use best practices for prolonging the shelf life of their produce. This would definitely help them tap the better rates that come in the market during certain months.
That last person storage looked economical and effective. Why not share/adopt these best practices everyone?

Why not the onion farmers grow the brown onions they keep at least four to six months longer than the red onions.
In the western countries the brown onions are far more popular than the red onions.
Also the variety I see in the video is very small in size and colour is very light red compared with with the onions we have here.I hope the Agriculture ministry in India investigte and amend these issues for the farmers of India.
I am from Nashik popular for onions and we mostly plant brown onion. Brown onion grow well in winter whereas red onion planted around this time .
People plant red onion because they get ready to harvest faster
Co produced with the German government’s channel. Western governments will come to raise issues when modernisation of agriculture is planned with farm laws. They want to keep us at a place where they can keep making such videos.

The prices are manipulated with the consumer in mind. As long as it is meddled there is no scope for tech reforms in the onion business. Why would anyone with a same mind will venture into this business. As a producer, you are banned from making money in this business.
flooding market or not, there needs to be a policy farmers 1st, nothing to be sold below farmer's set profit price, inflation or not.
India barely has any strong cold or dry storage logistic warehouses chain across the country as a result hell lot of agricultural produces end up in trash. Hundreds of quintals of wheat that gov procures from farmers on msp ends up rotting in some substandard warehouse built some 30+ years ago. It's a high time that we address this basic cold/dry storage issue which can be only dealt with cutting edge R&D. It's a shame that tiny country like Israel has introduced so many innovative new age farming techniques right from drip irrigation to soil less farming which is being widely adopted by very tiny percentage of wealthy farmers in India while the rest of the majority still suffering from traditional farming techniques.
