Thanks for the testimonial so to speak. I figure I'll be wearing a full face helmet come next spring when my scooter gets delivered. Get this, so when my own street bike riding son warned me that I should consider a full face helmet even if I'm "just " riding a scooter, it had me thinking on it right away. These couple of videos of yours sealed the deal for me. Thanks and cheers!
I know how you feel. My first day in the MCT training in the states. I gave it too much gas, headed into sharp corner and grabbed a handful of front brakes. High sided. Live and learn. Thank god it was under 10 mph.
Good useful video. 6 months ago I was going about 25mph with the visor partly up. Something flicked up, hit me an half an inch below my eye. Eye ballooned up within a few hours and completley closed over - couldnt see out of it atall - was very scared - thought my eye was a gonner. Was in the eye hospital for 3 nights on antibiotics.
Glad you were OK Simon. Yes its amazing how many insects etc hit the visor. I tend to have mine fully down, although on hot days I do keep it slightly open. Thanks for commenting .
What's more important is a good fitting ,good quality helmet that will give you proper protection in the event of an accident, I always wear a f/f though. Ride safe 👍
Glad your ok, years of experience matters not when it comes to open faced helmets ( leave that shit alone!) I've seen pictures that'll make a grown man cry of what the road surface can do to flesh. Think skelator from he man! Full faced all the way lads and lasses! Peace.
Hi and thanks for watching. After just 18 months of riding, I am sometimes tempted to buy an open face, but feedback like this from more experienced people quickly changes my mind. Thanks for the comment. Ride safe 🛵👍
This really brings home the dangers of a system where all you need to do is take a 1 day CBT and are then allowed out unsupervised. You were obviously not competent with the bike and would have benefitted with a weeks off road training to get more practise of riding skill. It was even worse when I had my first moped with gears and a clutch back in 1977, you applied for a provisional, bought a bike and rode it. I was lucky, my father was a school caretaker and we lived in a house on school grounds. I learned to ride on my mates Honda SS50 in the school yards and I had my bike delivered a week before my 16th birthday so had a week to get used to it. Plus I’d learned to drive a car in the same yards at 13 so found it all very straight forward. But at 17 back then you could apply for a licence and buy a bike capable of up to 100mph without any form of training at all. I would recommend anyone who wants to start to ride gets at least a minimum of a weeks training before going out on the roads as the accident you had could have very easily killed or seriously injured you.
Hi Nigel, I agree 100%. I was very lucky indeed. Even worse, the horrors of going abroad and hiring a moped with no helmet on the wrong side of the road, and drinking alcohol ! Heard some real horror stories ! Thanks for watching and commenting 🛵👍
Nooo ! Easily done ! And you lived to tell the tale ! Never know when or where it's gonna happen, usually when you least expect it !!Thanks for watching 🛵 👍!
I once accidently pulled a wheelie going around a corner, on my old vespa px5 and smashed into some iron railings. Throttling too hard, ended up with a nasty graze on my ankle which turned sceptic and took a long time to heal.
I was going UPHILL on a narrow country lane and decided to do a U turn at about 5 mph. Gravity took over and I put the Vespa down as if in slow motion. Like the Grafters Monkey boots by the way.
Hi John, yes it was a great summer with adventures with the scoot and the camper. Going to film more of our travels next summer. 👍🏻 thanks for watching. 🛵😍🚌
Thanks for sharing and glad you are ok. Apart from riding on the road I have raced motorcycles on and off for many years with a few offs!. Although I started riding when full face helmets had only just come in (1970) and rode with an open face for a couple of years after seeing a number of accidents involving severe facial injuries changed to a full face in 1975. It does not matter what speed you are going (the accident I received the most severe injuries was at 30mph) so would never ride with open face again. I was saved from nasty facial injuries (or possibly worse) at 50mph. Gloves, armoured jeans and jacket are in my kit. Only my opinion but having lost my best friend when 21 in an open face helmet makes me err on the side of caution. As for cost not sure if the most expensive is the best but well worth getting a helmet that is ACU approved to ensure good standard of protection. Cheers
@@RoyalAlloyRider Yes you are right I have been riding for over 51 years and still learning, I never knew about covering the rear brake when moving off on an auto (it's automatically done on a motorcycle with your foot) so thanks for sharing the information 👍👍
you survived and lived to tell the tale and able to share which is a good thing ..i cant wear full face because of my specs but my face guard comes down as far as my chin which deflects stones as well which would inflict a lot of damage to a riders face...ride safe and free bud.
I have a similar problem wearing glasses however have found a lightweight pair of glasses with thin frames fit inside my full face with a bit of fiddling. Cheers hope this is useful
Turning right into Tesco's car park one day and someone walked out in front of me so I gripped the front brake, doing no speed at all...unfortunately I broke while my front tyre was on a flattened plastic bottle. The whole front end slid from under me and I almost lost the scooter. The lady who walked out was looking at me like I was drunk and to be honest, I don't blame her as it was a bizarre thing to happen. I now avoid plastic bottles. This is experience!! Sometimes things just happen and that's that.
Most recent crash, over cooked a corner up on the hills near Huddersfield, my skill ran out and I couldn't turn enough, went up curb at 20 ish, tipped over on grass, my head hit and slid along barrier, and luckily bike didnt crush me. Worst part was I had full face helmet but my visor was up and the wing mirror twatted me right in the middle of my forehead! Did my back in lifting bike back up and had whiplash for a few weeks. Luckily bike was okay. Made me realise that I really dont have the skill to act like John McGuiness so reign it in before I really get hurt. 😂😎👍
Good advice mate, I'm gonna switch to full face. There are some really smart retro looking helmets available so you don't have to spoil the old school look too much. Great commentary voice, nice work
Enjoying your videos bro... I'm catching up with your journey now and a really interesting watch.
