    I can't find the I love button . This is amazing ! The top dressing that you hand carved . I was expecting a cool jig or something but you cut all that by hand . You said it looks irregular but on camera it looks great . I really like the towers a lot . They are by far the best towers I have seen . Last but not leased you have proven that you can use bead foam to make outstanding terrain . Thanks for sharing !

    I think for the towers you "over-engineered" the router stand. When you reached the max height the router could reach on the tower, why not just turn it upside down (the tower) and work from the bottom up...Coming on great though.

    It looks fantastic, buddy and appreciate you sharing some of your processes and trial and errors...your control on the depth of cut on the curved walls was pretty amazing for free standing pieces...I'd probably have to use some kind of doweled roller on the back side to set the depth and allow me to concentrate on the speed of the cut for the horizontal lines...I think the 2'' bricks work because of the size of the project...really amazing work, my friend...Jim.

    suggestion for the internal stairway and external dressings;
    cut them at the same time as you cut the wall. youve got the tools set up already, and it would just need a cut (just over to account for the width of the blade) a half inch further than the diameter of the external wall for the exterior dressing, and an extra cut between the int/ext wall sections for however wide you want the stairway (probably an inch to make it playable). then you could cut the steps into it after using the same...

    I think you could get the crenelation in the same manner you did the detail on the bottom of the wall battlements. I too have had trouble with detail as far as using the styrospray. I did not notice too much flow from the foam coat so you should be able to brush that in thinly. Though it depends on how level your work table is.
    You have me really looking at getting that 3D table now and for that sir I shake my fist at you!

    ...method that you used for the brick work, just making the cut 'deep' enough to go all the way through.
    i dont 'know' that this would work, but it seems as though it might! hope it helps!

    Really interesting video, and it is great that you take the time to outline your design process and thoughts. Interested to see what the foam covering will look like once it is applied.

    for the stairs would it not be better to cut the stair case from a circle therfore having a solid piece and then marking increments down every inch or whatever it maybe and carving the stairs as stacking could prove problematic or gameplay as the last stair on the bottom may be prone to damage and if its not solid may snap off cause its so thin?
    reguardless amazing work as usual :)

    1 - Great videos - Thanks for sharing your methods and your art.
    2 - Maybe I've missed it, but I would love to see a running update on a personal project of yours - it could be very experimental and would be good advertising.
    3 - It would be worth your time to buy another hot inscriber and build a slide that supports both if you're going to be doing this even once more.
    4 - Do you do estimates on a commisioned piece?

    great work, the larger 2" bricks in the wall sections look great and offer a nice variation to the smaller bricks.
    just an idea: instead of cutting the crenulations out of the tower segment, maybe cut them separately out of a different slice/disk/ring and glue them on the tower walls? that way you can use them on 2 towers because you only need half of the separately cut crenulations (not sure if that is clearly explained, the idea looked fine in my head :)).

    Of course, as I typed my first reply that thought did cross my mind. Still, you saw what I was getting at!

    I enjoy most of your videos. You talk much which is great, instead of we have to ask you about methods most vids explains the methods very well! You're videos is(are?) also wy I got extra interrested in trying my own diorama landscape project and for that I thank you! Many days fun watching so far.

    you are so critical of yourself and yet this looks fantastic even though it's far from a finished product

    well, looking at the results so far, my guess is you are likely to be asked to do something similar again!

    With the steps to the top of the wall do they have to be stone could it not be wooden with ladders and platforms. It would break up the stone work as well being interesting to work on.

    hey just a quick question, if I was to make a board for gaming, what material should I use, also, what are the best materials and which materials are the least expensive?

    Biggest respect for this masterpieces of modelling!
    Short tip:
    If the depth of the hot wire lines are so challenging and enduring, why don't you use something like a spacer? You could fix it on the table or at the base of your hot wire tool. It would allow you to work faster and less concentrated - time for a little break in the head! ;)

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a bad idea. Something to keep the depth constant and a spindle for the column to keep it's distance uniform as well. Thanks!

    3:40 why didn't you put the hot wire a bit back to use the black plate as a depth guide?

    Now I have got some done and the landscape is starting to take shape.
    Very fun so far this diorama thing.

    Love the mock up but it looks more like Minas Tirith than Mordor like, but I agree adding in some wooden steps

    The free hand cobblestone looks really good, but I wonder how long it took you. For mass production, could you make a stencil and a then chemically etch it in? I've never tried this - I just wonder what your opinion is.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The stone work took a long time, but I can't remember how long. I have just learned of a new way to do them that should be much faster. I'll share it once I have tried it. Always better ways of doing everything it seems.

    you should have just made a simple jig to push the wall up against so when you cut the layers of bricks it kept the same depth

    How do you get the stone texture across the surface?

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kevin Peffer I ended up just using the texture of the foam, and then I coated it with layer of Hot Wire Foam Factory Foam Coat. It has a grainy texture that helped finish the stone like effect.
