  • Shows a largish castle assembly that is being built as a practice mock up for a larger project. At this stage I primarily discuss the addition of the butresses, magnetization of the sections, the foam coating of the surface, and the dressing for the door. Particular problems with the staircase leading to the top is also focused on. The castle is designed for use with LOTR games, but is suitable for use with any 28-30mm scale wargames.

how about cut the stairs before it meet the walkway and just add a ladder since it is an outer access to the walkway.

To make this from scratch and by hand is simply astonishing! You're the king of terrain, that's for sure =)

Now that you know how much detail you will lose with the foam coat . You might want to make you cuts more exaggerated or after you apply the foam coat and wile its still wet is go back with a pencil and redefine the cut marks . For your inlay stone work for doors and arrow slots carve those out first and then carve out your stone cuts . What I have done in the past is cut your stone cuts first and then do what you did for your gate but bevel the edges of your gate trim . That will help out alot

I would like to add, that this piece is a real beauty!

Maybe an engraving tool to clear out some of the seams. For the inlaid stonework, I would cut out an opening in the wall, cut a second piece out of the blueboard that will fit in that space. Do the inlaid stonework on the blueboard, glue it in and then use an air dry clay to fill in brickwork for the main wall. The hard part is going to be those spikes and metal plates. Weta Workshop used lead foil, not safe though. For the rivets, MicroMark has ponce wheels that will do the trick.

looks great so far; apart from the issues with the stairs, they do look very nice with those steps in between. very nice work ;)

If you have any more trouble meeting the height of the wall, you can have another section of stairs cut out into the wall using the thickness of the wall for both the stairs and landing. That would also blend the two components together.

Oh, for a kayak I would go with a fiberglass coating. I don't have any experience with fiberglass, but a plaster/gypsum coating is out for sure. You could use a resin, but if you hit a rock you'll crack it. :) Fiberglass is the standard for DIY canoes and there must be a reason for it.

on the matter of the stairtop...Keep the dressing all the way along.. build out the stairs to a "landing" that protrudes from the existing stairs..
it would be quite authentic to have this made of wood, and be enclosed on the inside by a wooden pallisade,

Hey would you be ok with giving me some tips on a project I am going to undertake? It will be a huge castle/school/church in an island setting. Its from an old DandD scenario

Have you considered on the stair issue going to the second landing from the top, and putting a small ladder going the rest of the way up. Also, for the wall connections and seem management. What if you did a s

If you want to try inlaying some detail, try a slightly deeper cut with the engraver, and start the brick work around them, or you can try making a cast, cut out a section and place in your mold :) great work so far :)

but buttresses do differ from each other, this is just a different design, and by the way if you're thinking of scale, most people can't really scale over obstacles larger than themselves weighed down with armor. Also not to mention that the buttress is to steep at one point for someone to physically stand on the buttress so they'll probably fall. but i do get what you mean :)

Thank you for your interest in my work. Right now I am not accepting an project proposals as I am booked quite far into the future at the moment. You might take a look at LizardLandscapes channel. He does work especially for exotic pet habitats and it might be a helpful start.

    Very fun to watch!
Is there any reason you couldn't build a wider platform of wood with a support at the top stair landing? I seem to remember seeing some overhanging (into the courtyard area) stair landings in films. Failing that, I think I would widen the top few steps and the platform by adding another thickness of foam and matching the stairs profile.
Lastly, if you leave it as is, I would square up the cut-out in the walkway to match the squareness of everything else. I think it could be

lap so one slid inside the other. You could then lock it in with facing and side magnets. This also allows for seam management.

  • @rimmyman
    @rimmyman 12 ปีที่แล้ว

I like the castle. I would offer you for the magnets, why not use some steel washers on one side to save on magnets? some Neo's of the same size and good strength hold to washers really well, and they're a much cheaper alternative to make a join without using 2 magnets. also at that point, polarity is irrelevant. maybe alternate washer/magnets so its a double bond.
