Hvorostovsky is the big winner. He stands head and shoulders above the rest because of his beautiful timbre and perfect voice control. He makes one unlike the other two that only sing the notes perfectly. 💞🙏🌹
Dmitri is brilliant! A very beautiful soul and a very handsome man has left us forever, but - he had an immortal voice. He has given so much both joy and meaning to the world. So extemely gifted, with a very intelligent approach to the song, so genuine masculine and powerful, vibrant and colorful and with a natural heroic sting. In my opinion one of the greatest male singer ever, and the best male baryton voice.
Dmitri Hvorostovsky, in my opinion. I find his Baroque arias best performed, in general. I like his effortless performance, including the right tempo, pitch etc., including the right amount of heroism-feelings in this particular aria. Thanks for uploading.
You really cannot compare these Artist each invest the music with something unique and distinct. There s difference but no best. Each has their own gift and ability. They excell in different areas of the music.
Well for my taste (I am not his great fan though) Dmitri is the best in this competition. But actually all of them are good singers and in this level there are no goods or bads just different tastes. Cheers.
Lorenzo Regazzo's tone weight and depth of sound have always had me thinking he was a full bass with an extended upper range. I have this CD and he does a darn job with the coloratura demands. The other two sound like standard baritones and they are both very good and I have Ulivieri singing Tito on CD. My order: 1) Regazzo 2) Ulivieri 3) Hvorostovsky
The technical quality of number 3 recording sounds like an old amateur recording, but the singing is better. More passion Less metronomic mechanical regularity..
To my knowledge, this aria has not been performed/recorded by Bryn Terfel. I included all available recordings by professional singers, with the exception of Sergio Foresti from the Sardelli recording, which was not available in MP3 format.
Vivaldi forever! Nicola Ulivieri not bad; Lorenzo Regazzo bass-baritone is enjoyable.Hvorostovski no doubt understands heroism but the recording is shockingly poor quality. Is it b/c you don't like Demo or you didn't have a better one? Anyway I love Vivaldi .After you hear the voice from the real Angel no human voice can measure up.We at best sound scratchy and imperfect.
OK, but it really depends on who is singing. If a countertenor does this, then it would be an octave higher. And there were probably transpostitions back then to accomodate a singer's best range. Ombra Mai Fu by Haendel would be a case in point, so many tonalities used for it. It would be hard to determine what the original was, but probably not important, except for historical interest.
Reading these posts and listening to Regazzo has me wondering if basses face the same challenges with discrimination that contraltos do, in terms of possible limitation in repertoire and typecasting, so they go the route of bass-baritone, just as altos like Katarina Bradic go the (potentially vocally damaging) route of mezzo, in order to get more work and sing bigger, juicier roles. It saddens me that this happens and I hope for a resurgence of staying true to one's God-given voice.
I know of Sergio Foresti's performance from the Sardelli recording, but haven't heard it, since it's not available in MP3 format anywhere. I regret not being able to include his performance for this reason. :(
The playing field is not even as the pitch is increasingly higher for each singer. I like the ease of Ulivieri, this piece seems to fit his voice like a glove, although he has the lowest tessitura going down to C#2. Regazzo sings it in G minor so his lowest is D2 which here is not really exciting as low notes can be. Dmitri tends to take the high end (also in other pieces he does) which here in A minor is on the borderline of straining. Maybe he did not want to descend below an E2.
The best orchestra performance has clearly the recording with Lorenzo Regazzo. Emotion and character of the libretto are hereby very good incorporated and highly subtle interpreted. Vocally Nicola Ulivieri is best, A crystal-clear and extremely fine coloratura line, in wich every note and every vibrato fits. Dimitri Hvorostovsky, however, is almost a whole disapointment! His interpretation and way of singing reminds to an operatic tenor from the 19th century, singing a hero's aria from a Verdi opera! There's almost no sense for the delicate subtlety of an baroque aria. Tones and coloratura lins flow into each other and create an extremely unclean tonality. Judging from hearing him in peson, he can definitely do it much better!
The three are singing in different keys, and the first two are basses/bass-baritones. Lorenzo Regazzo has an AMAZING voice and I would like to hear him singing something bigger than this. His coloratura is the cleanest. Dmitri has more attack but surprisingly less clean at the top. But Dmitri is singing in a higher key by far, and therefore sounds brighter anyway, It's easy for Dmitri fans to gush indiscriminately about his instrument, they rarely listen to anyone else, but the middle guy Lorenzo has the best raw material, that's for sure. Such a colourful voice! Dmitri sounds dry and tight voiced in comarison.
Nicola Ulivieri. He perfectly suites the 1600-1700 style. Very clear, he sings every note without cheating and most of all without that 1800's vibrato, largely used by the other two.
Dimitri Hvorostovsky, he exudes passion and zeal.
Hvorostovsky has it. He brings it alive.
No doubt Dmitri Hvorostovsky is the Best !RIP Dima 🙏🌹💖
Never mind that I heard the post just now. Hvorostovsky by far has a voice rich, brilliant, brings that unique quality hard to put into words.
Dimitri Hvorostovsky. Best male opera singer ever...in my opinion.
Hvorostovsky. Dramatic and lyrical. He has has a verility in his voice.
For me the best one with a great sense of legato and energy in phrases is Dmitry Hvorostovsky
Hvorostovsky is the big winner. He stands head and shoulders above the rest because of his beautiful timbre and perfect voice control. He makes one unlike the other two that only sing the notes perfectly. 💞🙏🌹
Dmitri Hvorostovsky the Best!
Dimitri's timbre, resonance, and diction is better than the competition.
🥰🥰🥰
Dmitri is brilliant!

Dimitry Hvorostovsky with his soul- and spiritful voice and his mesmerizing unparalleled inner source of energy. RIP Maestro.

Well said.

The best: D.Hsborostosky
Hvorostovsky 🎵💛🎵
Solo Dmitri
Dmitri Hvorostovsky is out of competitions because is UNIGUE
Dmitri is the BEST
Dmitri Nr. 1 - because of the "Barock" power of in his voice, also by the "Ombra Mai Fu" by Haendel
Dmitri 🥀
No doubt- Hvorostovsky :)))
🥰🥰🥰
HVOROSTOVSKY!!!!
🥰🤩👍
Dmitri Hvorostovsky !
Dmitri.

Dimitri ALWAYS wins!!!!!
Hvorostovsky is the best one.
No hay duda. Dmitri Hvorostovsky!
Dmitri Hvorostovski of course
Dima
Dmitri then Lorenzo for me.
actually, now having it on repeat while i game. i like all 3. it's like having 3 bfs
Well for my taste (I am not his great fan though) Dmitri is the best in this competition. But actually all of them are good singers and in this level there are no goods or bads just different tastes. Cheers.

Dmiiiitri!!!!!!
dimitri is also very good
🥰🤩👍
Magic Music. Fabulous. Fantastic ... perfect execution. You are subject to all genres. I adore your voice and your creativity.
Prima VIVALDI !!! Lorenzo Regazzo mi tocca di piu. Bravi tutti comunque!
Thanks for uploading.
They are all great! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
They all match very well.
I think it’s unfair to compare because Dmitri sings some parts in a frankly better octave
All three have beautiful baritone voices.Dmitri however remains the mesmerizing winner❤
Lorenzo Regazzo's tone weight and depth of sound have always had me thinking he was a full bass with an extended upper range. I have this CD and he does a darn job with the coloratura demands. My order:
1) Regazzo

Lorenzo Regazzo
una seleccion magnifica de voces

To my knowledge, this aria has not been performed/recorded by Bryn Terfel. I included all available recordings by professional singers, with the exception of Sergio Foresti from the Sardelli recording, which was not available in MP3 format.
I can’t imagine Bryn singing this well.
I wouldn't like to hear Terfel sing it - his voice is shot to pieces nowadays.
1. Lorenzo, 2. Hvorostovsky, 3. Ulivieri. There are tens of other great baritones, This is only piece of cake.
I finally got here after a long absence :) Although I love Khvorostovsky, but the best to me in this selection is Regazzo. Thank you, Daniel.
Vivaldi forever! the original pitch should be Am but then come the A in 415, 440, 392? always a thing to discuss ;)

Me gusta mucho la interpretación de Regazzo.
Sergio foresti (not in video)
Preferisco Nicola Ulivieri. Bravissimo. Ma anche Regazzo non mi dispiace.

But what the orchestra does at the version of Hvorostovskj?????
Lorenzo because its dark rounded and agile at the same time
Dmitri Hvorostovski
Nicola!
Thank you for explanation caro. I can dream though:-) Of these versions then Regazzo IMO.
1. Nicola Ulivieri
Assolutamente d'accordo con te:-).
I think if we find some singers good-looking why not say so if they are men? Are we allowed to praise only women's beauty?:-)
it's irrelevant what they look like, unless you are not a true music lover.
Nicola Ulivieri

Lorenzo Regazzo. I love late Dimitri but this tessitura is too low for him
Sergio Foresti!
Thank you !!! I like very much - Lorenzo Regazzo!!!
Of course Lorenzo!!!!

Such a great aria, it would be hard to spoil it. Hvorostovsky is really a bass-baritone however, Regazzo wins.
Nicola Ulivieri!
Lorenzo; Dmitri; Nicola. But the orchestras all sound very different.
Regazzo!!!!
Lorenzo Regazzo.
Nicola Ulivieri. He perfectly suites the 1600-1700 style. Very clear, he sings every note without cheating and most of all without that 1800's vibrato, largely used by the other two.
There's plenty of "1800s" vibrato in Ulivieri's voice, and not much attack.
