But getting the show next year, followed by the third season of HoTD, I'm excited for. The mass audience is going to get Game of Thrones-fatigue. It is what happens when something is succesful. It gets packaged and repeated until people grow sick of it. I wish they'd just stick to making HotD. It's a good show but the episodes are all so different in style. There is no cohesion. When I read TWOIAF I right away thought Egg is still alive. His older brother Aemon lived to be 104 and the bloodraven lived in longer…. But I relaxed and while I still think Aegon V still survived whatever happened at Summerhall there wouldn’t be much point in him still being alive even after Aemon dies when Egg would still be over 100 years old himself. I mean yeah it would be cool if the King was still alive but for what? It might happened but he’d just be too old to help the story.

Its debatable how good Baelor was since quoting the High Sparrow he thought Baelor was out of touch with the small folk, otherwise he wouldn't construct the Great Sept which proved to be simply a show of grandeur and wealth, not something that would directly benefit the people. Baelor was so pious he imprisoned his sisters away supposedly for just being women. Finally, he partook in fasting on a frequent basis which resulted in his early death, so there is some zealotry involved. Still though, would be interesting to see his story along with that of his elder brother Daeron the Young Dragon.
I'm sure someone else might have said this in the comments. But Sir Arlene did not Knight duncan before he died. Duncan gives mention a few times that he did but seems to be lying. For example he wouldn't Knight the Green Apple
I hope this show works out because they have failed to get HOTD up to GOT standards. I love the show but it feels like they're trying to stretch a shorter story into more seasons than required. The season 2 finale was the type of episode you have before the finale to set it up not before you wait 2 years to see the next one. I'm not a fan of al of these extended universes because they are never as good as the original. Is it that hard to come up with original ideas?
To be fair, GOT is 4 books, and HoTD is a chapter in a book. They did AMAZING with what they got. GoT has more character developpement and dialogues and structure that can be put in the show from the books and that's why it worked so well. I WANT all those spin offs of Westeros, they are all amazing in their own right. Stop comparing GoT with the rest, GoT is got and the others are their own thing. I want to see the entire Targaryen events in a show but thats a dream of mine. If I get the Conquest and the Blackfyre rebellions I can die in peace. Specially the Conquest to Jaehaerys' coronation as its end.
I suspect neither image is as you describe Charlie. Dunk is wearing his own full armour, which Steely Pate only delivered to him quite late in the story. He didn’t have his armour when he arrived at Ashford. And Ser Arlen of Pennytree had been a small man, so his armour didn’t fit. And Egg caught a fish and was squatting cooking it when Dunk returns to his camp. I suspect this is the fragment shown.
In season 1 game of thrones Ser Duncan the Tall is mentioned when the old women is telling stories to Bran. She was telling him of boys who didn't like stories and mentions his name.
I would love a tales of the north type of thing. Building of the wall . First men before Bran the builder. Trying to tame the north and making of winterfell etc..
I think it’s pretty clear that Dunk was never officially knighted by Ser Arlan of Pennytree, but was one of the VERY few true knights of the realm! Just like his descendant Brienne! A lot of great stuff could come out of this series!
Robert's Rebellion would be great to see. One advantage is that we know and can connect to most of the characters there. Waiting to see Robert Baratheon in his prime and fully grasp what he meant when he said his iconic line "Gods I was strong then" 😊
Dunk's armor in the promo looks very fresh and high quality so it's propably from near the end of the plot of the "The Hedge Knight". And Prince Baelor doesn't just vouch for Dunk based on nothing, but remembers crossing lances with Arlan at another tourney years before.
Appreciate the fantastic breakdown of Dunk and Egg. I remember A Knight’s Tale and omg Mark Addy, Robert Baratheon, was in that film. 🤯 He looks so different and without that air of regality.
I think every 100 years, there must be a new host for the Three Eyed Raven. I think Daemon takes the mantle, then passes it to Brynden Rivers during Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Then 100 years later to Brandon Stark
Correct me if I am wrong. In the GOT show, Aerys the Mad King's father is said to be King Egg (Aegon V) and not Jaehaerys II. I believe it was an overcomplication issue that led to them cutting out Jaehaerys II and just put Aerys II as Eggs son instead.
Aegon "The Unlikely"! Everything that happens along the way that puts Aegon V on the throne will certainly make for great drama. Side note: Joffery's delight in walking Margery through some morbid Targaryen history is good for a chuckle. Specifically commenting on Rhaenyra's and Aerion's demises... and now hopefully we'll get to see both those events in each spinoff. At least one of those will be quite tragic... so remember how giddy Joffrey was when descrbing these events for a little comic relief if necessary.
9:18 Baelor Brakespear was the original heir of Daeron 2 and first in line of succession but due to him dying in the trial 1st Aerys and than Maekar became kings
For anyone saying "who cares about some random knight", there's Joffrey in the original show going through a history book "Ser Duncan the Tall..." *laughs* "Four pages for Ser Duncan! He must have been quite a man". Jaime going "so they say"
It's ambiguous whether Dunk actually took the oaths from Ser Arland before dying in the original story. But Dunk does ACT like he took the oaths, and takes them seriously, even as other, highborn knights care more for their glory and station than protecting the lowborn, as the oaths suggest...
I really wish they would do the series focusing on the story backstory of Westeros with the Children of the Forest and/or the War of Dawn with the Giants and Brandon the Builder with the wall and the White Walkers... we literally got a snippet of it in GOT and that's what I'm more intertested in at this point moving forward...
The fact they haven’t even talked about doing an animated series bums me out because it could be done so well. You could CRUSH that. Make it in an anime style animation and you could adapt whatever story line you wanted. You could do Aegons conquest or roberts rebellion in animation. If they could make it feel similar to the animated extras they came out with years ago. How haven’t they thought of this it feels like that would CRUSH.
Century of Blood could also be an interresting series, starting with the doom of Valyria and covering the rise of the Dothraki, the free cities and the 3000 unsullied of Qohor.
Can you do a video that displays the timeline of where all the predicted/announced etc adapted tv series and animations place, and what they're based off? So of course with the Game of Thrones series being the assumed modern day most recent account of the universe whereas House of the Dragon is like what, 200 years before? And then Aegon the Conqueror is however many years before and the Dunc and Egg is bla bla bla. It's hard to visualise if you haven't read all the source material but still want to get a grasp on how it all plays together and who's connected to what.
I had no idea they were doing it this way with 2 shows running alongside each other. this is very smart, it will allow them to retain quality and not rush things with either show
Thank you so much for breaking it down! I am just a show watcher I have not read the books but I do kind of like to know what's going on because it makes it more interesting for me. So thank you again very much for your breakdown of this world I would be lost without it!
I think Charlie didn’t read the knight of the seven kingdom story, Dunk didn’t impressed by Egg in the inn, Egg imposed himself on Dunk, and it’s obvious that Dunk didn’t get knighted and this was a major issue through the story with Dunk
I'm more excited about my boy Dunk than HotD. I love the series, my only worry is that more books are "on the way" and the exact same thing will happen similar to GoT, the writers will run out of source material and it'll end without the genius of GRRM
You are misstaken sir. Hedge knight was released before a knights tale. It was probably the other way around. Don't you question the genius of George RR martin
Sir Arlen never knighted him. That's the whole premise of the Duncan egg novelas is that he is no night. He's not a true Knight but he's more of a true Knight than all the other true nights in the seven kingdoms you need to re-read a night of the seven kingdoms. Both dunk and egg are pretending to be something that they're not.
I believe Jon Snow will be made. It will be the finale to all these shows. The magic woke up in GOT, this is going into why the magic went to "sleep". We get to understand the 3 Eyed Raven and even Maester Aemon. I want them to expand on their relationship. It seems strange that they just ignored him in GOT. Stannis I believe knew he was there and just saw he was on death's door. Either way, they white walkers might have died, BUT could more just pop up, did the White Walker magic spell break? I think these shows will expand on the magic of the "others". Also, I demanded Melisandre make an appearance in one of these shows.

That’s what I cannot wait for the most above all, is the sixth novel in the series. AFfC & ADoD left readers on such a cliff hanger, I desperately need to know what’s going to happen in the battle of Blood, Steel, Fire, and Ice.
But having all this at our fingertips is exciting!
Yes, HBO is the best we’re going to get outside of the books…and GRRM will never finish ASOIAF books sadly.WoW was supposed to have many release timeframes and here we are in 2024.
GRRM also just pulled out of helping to write HOTD so who knows how it will go.
Certainly better than nothing.
@@RARufus GRRM has found that raking in money as "Executive Producer" on his unfinished book series' suits him better than, you know, actually sitting down and writing resolutions to his uncompleted works. He's a fraud.
Man, I want a Robert's Rebellion/War of the Usurper mini series, a John Snow followup maybe with an Aria world traveler cameo, and the blackfyre rebellions that this show is sort of setting up
Roberts Rebellion still as many secrets yet to be revealed we probably won’t see a show about that till after The Winds Of Winder and Dream Of Spring release
I get a Jon spinoff is hard to write… but No one addresses the amount of potential for an Arya spinoff in my opinion… I am not too well versed in the books, but to my understanding there is a WHOLE world of unknown lore outside of Westeros. Seems like the potential is endless. They’ve already established the show is it’s own cannon, I figure why not?

People complaining about a 2 year wait: were about to see a LOT more dragon scuffles...a LOT more CGI is needed
I think HOTD was saving some of their VFX budget for Season 3. When we do get to see those dragon battles, it'll be EPIC.

Ayoooo
How many shows do they think we can handle? I get its like a decade of film making but why so many? Yi Ti, Corlys, 1000 ships in Dorne, How can they "storyboard" like 10 years out? Oh after that 5th series we'll do one about Corlys, Are they just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks? maybe 1 in 5 will be profitable? Its comes across like quantity over quality. Just focus on making the best show you can, not what your 5th spin off is gonna be.
I agree. I'm interested to see how this one will pan out after hotd s2. Could've possibly been better for marketing to go with something more popular and central to the world to catch people's interest until s3, why dance around roberts rebellion, the doom of valyria and aegons conquest.
The mass audience is going to get Game of Thrones-fatigue. It is what happens when something is succesful. It gets packaged and repeated until people grow sick of it. I wish they'd just stick to making HotD. It's a good show but the episodes are all so different in style. There is no cohesion. One day I'm watching a comedy and week later I'm watching a stage play being performed on camera. Season one was balanced.
@@roddo1955 You mean like Marvel and Star Wars fatigue ?
As long as the quality stays up, people won't get fatigued. If they compromise in quality, people will get tired of it.
At least as long as GRRM is alive, we will get quality.
Amazon had to wait until JRR Tolkien's son passed away, so they can make their low quality LotR show.

They went full on disney with this GOT stuff.
It's HBO's very own Star Wars. 😂
These novella are actually my favorite books set in Westeros. Hopefully they do them justice and people like the change of pace with them. They are a lot different than the other stories
It might happened but he’d just be too old to help the story.
yeahs sure he sneeked away while everyone else died
@@robinnussbaumer5943 duncan and egg didn’t die playing with wildfire…. @@Sourdcuo778 i'm sure they died, just not the way people (in universe) think they did. what happened at summerhall is kind of the big mystery in this story for now
Hopefully we get a good season 1 of Dunk n Egg, I know it’s only 6 episodes, it’s unfortunate how season 2 of hotd ended. They could have finished it better, like the Gullet or Haelanas flight down to the moat in Maegors holdfast with the help of Aemond of course

It all sounds like overkill imo. Less is more sometimes we don’t need 10 different series about 10 different timelines confusing everyone.
Remember the general public needs to be able to follow not just book lovers.

this story is much easier to follow than HotD or GoT. it has only 2 main characters and few minor characters, the story is straight forward. and you can watch it without knowing anything about the other shows. and unlike roberts rebellion they can just closely adapt the source material, we know what happens if they make up their own stuff.
Can’t wait for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Only 6 episodes but better than nothing. Daemon, Brynden, and Baelor all have different personalities from each other and I like them all. I enjoy a wide range of personalities. They’re all related to each other. Baelor is very opposite of Daemon. Very kind, humble, and patient. A truly good man. I hope HBO does him right and not ruin him like they did to Daemon to add more drama and conflict. See you next summer, Bertie.
Please give us Lord Bloodraven in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. He wasn’t completely book accurate in Ep. 8. Brynden has one eye like Aemond but doesn’t wear a patch to cover it up. His left eye socket is completely uncovered. And his birthmark of a blood stained raven is on his right cheek. I want to see Brynden Rivers because I want to see Shiera Seastar looking super fine!! The hottest woman to ever live in Westeros and Lord Bloodraven used to tap that. Forget Daenerys or Rhaenyra. It’s all about Shiera Seastar!
Aegons Conquest/Robertts Rebellion are what i am most interested in seeing brought to life.
they keep making so many spinoff shows about anything but what people really wanted to see... Aegon The conqueror and Robert's rebellion...
It's strongly hinted throughout that Ser Arlan never actually got around to knighting Dunk.
I'm sure someone else might have said this in the comments. But Sir Arlene did not Knight duncan before he died. Duncan gives mention a few times that he did but seems to be lying. For example he wouldn't Knight the Green Apple
Robert Rebellion is and will be the most epic just because it’s literally what birth the game of thrones
Specially the Conquest to Jaehaerys' coronation as its end.
hotd slander is nonsense. the show is amazing and well made, especially in todays standard
@flabbergaster1011 Sure if you like them dragging a story out.
@@vCLOWNSHOESv that is how a TV show is made from a bare book
I suspect neither image is as you describe Charlie. Dunk is wearing his own full armour, which Steely Pate only delivered to him quite late in the story. He didn’t have his armour when he arrived at Ashford. And Ser Arlen of Pennytree had been a small man, so his armour didn’t fit. And Egg caught a fish and was squatting cooking it when Dunk returns to his camp. I suspect this is the fragment shown.
Ehhhh I'm kind of hyped, but hotd season 2 especially episode 8 has left a sour taste in my mouth
In season 1 game of thrones Ser Duncan the Tall is mentioned when the old women is telling stories to Bran. She was telling him of boys who didn't like stories and mentions his name.
We need a series on the first men
I would love a tales of the north type of thing. Building of the wall . First men before Bran the builder. Trying to tame the north and making of winterfell etc..
The Legendary Aegon the Conqueror & his Conquest is what I crave the most !
5:43 you sure about that Charlie?
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Waiting to see Robert Baratheon in his prime and fully grasp what he meant when he said his iconic line "Gods I was strong then" 😊
i assume if dunk did get married and have a kid, it was before he became a kingsguard?
I would like to see Robert’s Rebellion! They can introduce those bad ass Kings Guards! That back story can easily go three seasons!
It's heavily implied in the books that Duncan was not knighted before the old man died. It is his big lie.
Dunk's armor in the promo looks very fresh and high quality so it's propably from near the end of the plot of the "The Hedge Knight".
And Prince Baelor doesn't just vouch for Dunk based on nothing, but remembers crossing lances with Arlan at another tourney years before.
NYC one ❤️ . thank you so much
Appreciate the fantastic breakdown of Dunk and Egg.
Daemon dies

Correct me if I am wrong. In the GOT show, Aerys the Mad King's father is said to be King Egg (Aegon V) and not Jaehaerys II. I believe it was an overcomplication issue that led to them cutting out Jaehaerys II and just put Aerys II as Eggs son instead.
Dunk the lunk. Thick as a castle wall
HBO and the creators of spinoffs need to stop taking fans for granted. I hope this franchise has intelligent writers.
The way season 2 of HOD went. I might not be interested. 🤷
Not only does this not look interesting, but HOTD S2 made me lose faith in these spin offs. I'll wait for the reviews for this one.
The source material for house of the dragon is a lot different, then night of the seven kingdoms, I promise you will enjoy sir duncan and eggs journey
Also you get a trial by seven, which is awesome in its own right. EGGs uncle Baelor is the type of man everyone of us wishes we were.
Brienne of Tarth uses ser Duncan's shield/coat of arms and it is believed that she is his ancestor.

For anyone saying "who cares about some random knight", there's Joffrey in the original show going through a history book "Ser Duncan the Tall..." *laughs* "Four pages for Ser Duncan! He must have been quite a man". Jaime going "so they say"
Like for a series on blood raven
It was never specifically stated whether or not he was actually knighted. But it is heavily implied that he was not knighted.
All i want is jon snow series 🐺
It's ambiguous whether Dunk actually took the oaths from Ser Arland before dying in the original story. But Dunk does ACT like he took the oaths, and takes them seriously, even as other, highborn knights care more for their glory and station than protecting the lowborn, as the oaths suggest...
I think Aegon the 5th had some dragon dreams
I really wish they would do the series focusing on the story backstory of Westeros with the Children of the Forest and/or the War of Dawn with the Giants and Brandon the Builder with the wall and the White Walkers... we literally got a snippet of it in GOT and that's what I'm more intertested in at this point moving forward...
Awesome video! Q: Where on the current timeline does Bran the builder fall and the creation of the ice wall??
The fact they haven’t even talked about doing an animated series bums me out because it could be done so well. You could CRUSH that. Make it in an anime style animation and you could adapt whatever story line you wanted. You could do Aegons conquest or roberts rebellion in animation. If they could make it feel similar to the animated extras they came out with years ago. How haven’t they thought of this it feels like that would CRUSH.
The first looks of knight of the seven kingdoms looks great can't wait for next year
Century of Blood could also be an interresting series, starting with the doom of Valyria and covering the rise of the Dothraki, the free cities and the 3000 unsullied of Qohor.
Happy that I will witness a lot of shows inside this universe. Great job by creators.
If they wanted to do all these prequels, they should have had some quality officers ensuring the original show had a satisfying ending.
I had no idea they were doing it this way with 2 shows running alongside each other. this is very smart, it will allow them to retain quality and not rush things with either show
The thing is, I think we’re meant to question whether Ser Arlan actually did knight Ser Dunk
Only spinoffs we want are Aegon’s conquest and Robert’s Rebellion
Thank you so much for breaking it down! I am just a show watcher I have not read the books but I do kind of like to know what's going on because it makes it more interesting for me. So thank you again very much for your breakdown of this world I would be lost without it!
Thanks Charlie great video as always can't wait for this series
Hoping we get to see young dad Corlys in his fur shopping for sweetmeats to eat by the fire after supper
Thank you for explaining this so clearly. It helped a great deal.
Glad it was helpful!
I think Charlie didn’t read the knight of the seven kingdom story, Dunk didn’t impressed by Egg in the inn, Egg imposed himself on Dunk, and it’s obvious that Dunk didn’t get knighted and this was a major issue through the story with Dunk
I like the idea the Dunk marries Tanselle eventually. But, how does he become a member of the King's Guard if he is married?
I'm more excited about my boy Dunk than HotD. I love the series, my only worry is that more books are "on the way" and the exact same thing will happen similar to GoT, the writers will run out of source material and it'll end without the genius of GRRM
I got into Asoiaf through the Egg and Dunk novellas. I love them, I really hope they don't fuck this up.
