$36k is too much for a Nissan with a JATCO CVT. It's mind boggling how Nissan still manages to get away with selling these pieces of crap. For that kind of money, you could get a RAV4 Adventure or RAV4 Hybrid, and get Toyota reliability, a sturdy 8 speed torque converter auto, way more cargo room, better interior quality; literally everything in a RAV4 is better than a Rogue.
@@josholetsky2892 Jatco is Nissan - Nissan makes their own transmissions. The irony is that older torque-converted Jatco automatic transmissions were quite bulletproof! On the flip side though, Nissan/Jatco has been refining and reiterating on the Xtronic CVTs and many have reached a point where they're about at the industry average for CVT reliability. I'm not sure how much that will influence buyers that are already on the edge, but I have a feeling most people that end up with these, and that do their regular maintenance, will see a much longer lifetime with them than they ever have in the past. I suppose time will tell. To respond to OP though, I actually quite like the style and interior space of the Nissan compared to the Toyota, and that will be enough to sway many buyers alone. A lot of people buy on looks and perceived value rather than actual specifications and mechanicals, so these Rogues continue to fly off showroom floors and dealer lots. The Rogue SL Premium in Midnight Pine over Almond is a really nice looking crossover, imho!
Nissan interior are really crap compare to Toyota and even Hyundai. I been on my friend Nissan Rogue before I was disappointed it’s not as comfortable as a Hyundai Tucson and it feel cheap for $30,000 car. I can’t believe they use the same build quality as a Nissan Kick And the beep chime is pathetic. How embarrassing is that when his girlfriend’s VW Beetle are more comfortable and better built than Nissan Rogue lol. Man I can’t believe I bash Japanese car just because of Nissan crap. Toyota and even Korean Hyundai are better car
I drove a 2018 Rogue when my 2010 Rogue was in the shop getting a new Transmission (first gen CVT only lasted about 60k miles lol). Its funny because the first gen Rogue's driving feel feels great for a crossover/CUV but feels like a pos in refinement, whereas the 2nd gen feels like the complete opposite, the interior is great but you feel literally nothing driving it.
For most people, it is a good car. I know Nissan gets a lot of flack for their vehicles, but they're not bad cars. People seem to generally like them, and this vehicle is just typical Nissan: very simple and easy to use, easy to drive, adequate power, and it's just a good daily driver SUV. Not going to blow you away, but it's not really supposed to, and I don't think that is a bad thing.
So this is my wife’s car/family hauler and it works great for that, but when I have to drive it I hate the loose steering, pick up, and gear hunting which is just horrendous. Comfortable af tho, easy to cruise and chill.
Seth Little “simulated” gear hunting, as the cvt is designed to mimic a traditional automatic but doesn’t do a good job, whereas other cvt’s mimic automatics much better and you don’t feel like it’s struggling as much.
Calisto Riviera everyone knows they have simulated gears and nothing about feels like gear hunting I drive an Altima the simulated shifts are really smooth but only occur if your moderately press the gas or harder
I think those low profile tires on the SL trim really hurt the ride. A good cushy ride needs some air between the rim and the pavement. The more base models have 17 inch wheels with good rubber around those rims.
The only things that are ruining Nissan’s image are the transmissions (They need to find a new manufacturer to replace Jatco or switch back to Automatic across all models), the technology especially in Infiniti’s (they need to upgrade to a modern infotainment system so that it becomes very useful/better graphics/better driver display), improve the interior quality (I love their zero gravity seats) and they need to depart from Renault tbh. We need a full revamp with Nissan/Infiniti
Nissan is owned by Renault and they own jatco so they aren't gonna give that up. Some people that have the CVT replace the fluid every 30k miles instead of 60k and they seem to do okay. Jatco cvts have been getting better, just not quick enough.
Josh, they won’t be able to implement those ZF transmissions since most of Nissan’s vehicles are based on a FWD architecture with a transversely mounted engine configuration - the flagship ZF transmissions aren’t designed to accommodate that. They are configured to work in a rear mount transaxle assembly or longitudinal engine/transmission orientation on primarily RWD architectures. It’s the same reason why VW/Audi doesn’t use ZF - their architectures are largely FWD-based, even if they do use a lot of longitudinal engine configurations still. The ZF 9HP 9-speed is designed to work in cohesion with transverse engines and FWD architectures, but it’s definitely not the same as their ZF 8-speed found in much of the RWD-based European competition. The 9HP has had numerous issues over the years, and while they have (mostly) refined it now, it’s not really all that stellar still. You’ll remember when FCA launched their next generation of vehicles a few years back, all the new Chrysler, Jeep and Fiat models were getting the 9ATs, and then Acura hopped in the game as well and each of them were experiencing a plethora of issues with the FWD-based ZF.
I see you’ve been eyeing the Rogue for longer than I anticipated... but you should definitely consider a Murano! You’ll love it much more than this half-baked Rogue, no offense.

can you do an update on your lexus GX460? I purchased a 2015 (I like the styling plus its probaly the cheapest in the U.S with maintenance record from dealership) I'm at the point of needing new tires and probably upgrade the brakes.
Great video, I have Nissan Rogue S. I’m in the Market of upgrading to the SL style. Does the Nissan SL have power button on the passenger side as well as the driver side? Does still have the sport button?
Here in a third-world country called the Philippines, Nissan released a mid-size SUV with a traditional Automatic called Terra. It's selling like hotcakes!
Yes, let's have BIGGER and MORE DISTRACTING displays to help people get into accidents because they are dinking around with silly icons instead of driving. I know someone who got rear ended because the driver that hit him was playing with the nice, big display. The "auto breaking" feature engaged and reduced the impact speed, but he still got hit. BTW: Ever notice that when the car salesman in the TH-cam infomercial is showing off the display, they always do it while the vehicle is STOPPED. They never show the driver using the display while driving at highway speeds. If they did, the video would end in an accident.
Booboobear2388 To have a bigger display would just be easier to see the information being displayed. Since the Rogue has navigation, using it with a smaller screen is difficult. Also, the reason salesmen or saleswomen explain the infotainment display while in park is for the person viewing the car to know everything about it, so they can get a feel of the car when they drive it. Bigger displays can be distractions, yes, but it does help to have a bigger display when getting places. Also, it is expected in 2020 to have bigger displays. Not only would it be good for the consumers to have it, but it would be good for Nissan. Drivers can still use a small display while driving, putting them in the same risk as if it was a big screen. In regards to the wreck, it didn’t matter whether or not the screen was a big size or not. The driver using the screen would’ve been doing the same thing if a smaller screen had the feature they were messing about with. Large infotainment screens are in almost every new car, and it’s bad when a consumer gets a small one. It is also just easier to use and see. Screens, big or small, will always be distracting of the same amount to the driver, so a bigger screen wouldn’t affect the distraction rate of a person driving.
I use to have a 2014 Rogue SL AWD and nothing really has changed. When will they change the dash to the Murano dash. Rogue and Pathfinder are outdated. I'm not going to buy a nissan ever again.

I know it's pretty de rigueur to shit all over Nissan, but I have a '13 Altima and I have to say it's been a decent car. It's given me just about 100k generally trouble-free miles so far. I've not had the transmission problems people seem to have. It's smooth and comfortable. Sure, it's not canyon carver, but instead a relatively anodyne daily driver.
Same vehicle, different markets, different names. The Rogue is the X-Trail nowadays, and vice versa. Just like the our Rogue Sport is the Qashqai for most of the world. Same vehicle, marketed and branded differently for different markets.

The sound of this car going higher in the rev range is enough to not even consider as an option to me 😅 the sound is really off-putting. Great video nonetheless!
"Fast" and "Rogue" probably don't belong in the same sentence; it features Nissan's corporate 2.5L I4 making 170 bhp and 175 lb-ft at 6,000 RPM. Paired with AWD in many models and a sluggish Jatco Xtronic CVT8, it really doesn't move the 3,500 to 3,700 lbs. all that well. They're acceptable enough for nearly all regular situations, but for those 1% of times when you really want power to move it, it's not going to happen. Fuel economy isn't terrible though and they are pretty smooth, so take it for what it is. It's a cushy people mover and that's about it.
Hate the engine. Only 170hp in such a heavy truck. It's so slow in person. Wouldn't recommend it. Sport mode sucks and only revs high and opens up the valves but it's super slow and puts power down slow as well
I hate this car so, so, so much. The 2.5 liter 4-cylinder sounds like a lawnmower (loud, buzzy) and it CRITICALLY lacks power (170 HP). The ride in this car feels like you're riding in an early 2000s Dodge Caravan. It does not absorb bumps at all, and the interior rattles when you hit bumps. The plastics in this car are not it. The last one we rented, a 2020 SV, did have cloth seats and I do prefer them over the 2019 SL seats because they are very hard. I also hear bad things about the CVT in this car. I know the first gen especially had problems with the CVT, but there are models of these failing too. They're not old, so why are they failing? Not sure. The 2021 Redesign is better, but not good enough for me to tell anyone to buy a Rogue.
