But i understand about the budget things..just hoping one day..
Honestly, same. While I'm not a huge fan of the series anymore, I would love to see a more mature adaption that focused on the darker aspects and less on the card game. Have a series meant for kids and another meant for older audiences. Or hell, even go the FMAB root and remake YGO so that it sticks exactly to the manga. One day, hopefully.
@3:38 the manga having this flashback also makes Kaiba's staking his life in a duel to enter the Pegasus castle even more poetic if you never read the manga, it would have been totally out of the blue
The manga is so twisted compared to modern Yugioh. I love it. Though to be fair, a lot of anime are pretty heavily censored compared to the manga. Artists seem to be able to get away with a lot more in manga format. Like in the Dragon Ball anime Toei weren't even allowed to let Piccolo have 4 fingers like he does in the manga.
It's more of it would be seinen if they fully adapted the manga to the anime. Or it wouldn't be shounen. Dark side of dimensions, Ryuji Otogi (Duke)'s father did appear he was the clown and he fired jounouchi.
Well Shonen manga are traditionally targeted towards teenage boys and it would make sense why the anime was toned down. However the manga or anime would never have been a Seinen as Seinen manga or anime are far more gruesome. True Shonen is for teenage boys and can have some level of violence and dark imagery like Yugioh has but Seinen is far far more dark and more violent.
Until this day..seriously i want them to make a separate shows of yugioh for children and adult fans😔 like gundam. I think it's funny that Malik was such a good villain, but he wasn't really a standout duelist compared to the other characters. He was inferior to Ishizu (and probably Rishid) in the flashbacks and possibly never caught up. He cost Rishid a win against Jounouchi, and he had fluky wins against Mai and Bakura. Then, he should've straight up lost to Jounouchi. The Sun Dragon Ra was the only thing that made him win at all.
Yes, of course, and he still won most of his duels due to his opponents not knowing how to use Ra. The writers focused on Yugi, Malik, and Kaiba being chosen ones, but they didn't do a good job in developing Malik's actual dueling ability, in my opinion.
The Sun Dragon of Ra's effect/chant was in language other charectors could not understand they did not knew it's power and the abbility of so called "1 turn kill" (and other 2 abbilities)
In the manga his deck was based about torture devices which in combination with his "yami no game" skills would get the best of a duelist even before the duel was close to being finished, he even mentions how Jonouchi was able to stand it until the end since no one else had done it before.
The Manga was Dark! I read all of it. Yami Yugi Torments, Marik Tortures, Yami Bakura is a Straight Savage! What Bakura did to Pegasus and Bonez is just the beginning of what he does to others.
I seriously want a remake of the anime that sticks closer to the manga that also adapts season 0 but once again closer to the manga and also adapts yugioh r
1:47 That´s because in Japan, the death penalty is always perfromed by hunging. Thus, maybe it´s forbidden to broadcast animation with that content during the timeslot, maybe not, who knows.
They need to make a remake with EVERYTHING from the manga in the anime. One of the biggest differences is Bakura's entire appearance and I think I'm not the only one who was mad asf learning that the anime rarely gave him screentime and changed his character. (Ryou and Yami Bakura to an extent)
I agree, because as a kid when ever I saw him I was like, who tf is this and why do all the characters keep acting like he's there friends, turns out its because they play off his storyline from Zero
Just as a suggestion for a future top ten, which Yugioh characters frighten you the most? IDK about anyone else, but I would put the three Yamis in there to varying degrees; can’t decide for sure whether Bakura or Marik would be highest among those three alone, but they are the first who came to mind for me. Any other characters that you think should be there?
Other than the penalty, I remmember that the duel between Mai and MArik was different in the mangá, where she was mostly tortured. Imagine if that duel was fully adapted these days?
if you could make more videos like these when you compare the anime to the manga I'd absolutely love that! Really enjoyed this video! (except the thought of having a bunch of flesh-eating bugs above your face :x
I always assumed Bones just got Shadow Realm'd, which of course would mean that him and his friends came back once Zorc got destroyed. If they didn't fall to the Reaper of the Cards, that is.
I wish they could remake yugioh but then with an 18+ version. Would love to watch the entire back story of yugioh and how atem was before he meet yugi.!we only saw bits of it. But there is so much to tell yere
I remember growing up reading bits of the manga _and_ watching the dub of Battle City, and I always noticed that the manga was much darker (though I didn't realize the anime was censored at the time). I didn't read much of Battle City but I did read the Possessed Joey vs. Yugi duel and always thought the cyanide capsule poisoning was so much creepier than getting a crate dropped on you.
My favourite moment is the one with mariks father. Fucking dark, fucking sinister... . Also the one with Pandora is waaayyy too much if you ask me. Like wtf make people hang themselves??
Interestingly, Season 0 did have the scene where Kaiba's father dies, but even then it's toned down. If I remember right, Kaiba implies that his father should jump out the window since he's the "loser," and when the dad realizes what he means, he has a heart attack and dies. Funny what you can show in print but not on TV
Another note from the Mai/Marik duel in the manga: Marik’s use of Viser Des and Viser Shock in the manga was really damn dark as Mai had two torture devices used on her. They changed it in the anime to holding arms and holding legs, but seeing what was in the manga for the first time was very disturbing.
this might not qualify as a change, but in the manga when priest mahad dies, we get very explicit, very bloody confirmation that, yes, that pendulum blade sliced him in half saw-style; the anime shows no blood whatsoever and avoids any reference to the gory reality of his demise. but, again, it still shows the blade swinging toward him before his soul enters magus of illusion, so it might not count as being changed, just majorly toned down.

Wow, now I'm going to get the manga. Great video bro!
this really adds a new side to yugioh that i never noticed as a kid. thank you!
4:08 Puuuuh! I wanted to binge your channel right now, and that was such a tease. Please make that video for Halloween. 🎃😍
Wow I hade no idea Ryuji’s back story was so different. Time to read through the duelist manga
Yeah, that small arc is a lot darker than its' anime counterpart, and the clown is downright creepy in every single appearance he makes, totally worth it.
I love that, it was Yugi that plays Dungeon Dice Monsters, not Atem.

I feel the sand makes more sense since after she is freed she is physically unharmed. Flesh eating insects do cause injuries.
Yeah, but all that happens in a penalty game is in your head in the manga so it makes sense.
@@afernandez9579 I think they're both equally bad. Downing in sand is just slower.
Now I see from which panel they took the image for Duel Links when Bonz is defeated... damn Konami don't mess around with the references on Duel Links but at least they could uncesor some cards and characters design there
I love the nods to the source material like that. And then you have Zane having a heart attack when he loses.
Gold Zero
Does Zane actually die in the manga?
No 1: Sending people to the shadow realm, oh wait.....
LOL only one version of the anime even had the shadow realm xD
Yugioh Everything Well there is a reason why card games are serious business😅😅.Great video btw.
I think sending someone straight to hell with no chance of heaven is kinda worse than a lot of things
Shadow realm ? i think you mean Hell ?
@@firepuppies4086
it's like the "dungeon" in the 4kids one piece dub.
yea geting killed is bad, sure, but being sent to a dungeon for all eternity, not being able to die and not geting let out even after your loved ones defeat the bad guy who put you there is probably worse than just geting killed to death.
What about Joey/Jonouchi being burned by the Winged Dragon of Ra, especially in the Japanese manga?
you know something i realized with every anime that the manga is ALWAYS hella darker than the anime it self
I would say the fact that Pegasus DIES in the manga and never once recurs is among the biggest differences.
Also there should be a “top 10 times Bakura was written out of the anime” list
He does show up again in the filler arcs in the anime and he shows up in the movies
@@CosmicNova1000 That's literally exactly what I'm saying... he comes back in the anime and not the manga. The Yugioh R manga even centers around Pegasus being permanently dead.
@@actionturnip395 he at least got to die naturally of old age by the time of 5DS as they talk about a memorial.
2 Moments I'd add:
1. Pegasus death in the Manga. (Bleeding to death after having the Eye ripped out of him)
2. Kaiba's 'first' arc in the manga is split up. Mokuba and Kaiba both lose to Yugi while trying to cheat and later try to get revenge, going as far as murder. After Mokuba failed to kill Yugi, Kaiba even tried to torture Mokuba to death as punishment.
defently the yugioh manga has the most dark moments for sure. hands down.
great vid & i agree with those picks
Thank you nick!
Real surprised that you didn’t include Marik’s duel against Mai having the same “rules” as Marik’s buel against Jonouchi. Also Marik’s use of “Viser Des” in both those duels.
Until this day..seriously i want them to make a separate shows of yugioh for children and adult fans😔 like gundam. Seeing DSOD make me believe more that.. yugioh with dark and complex, occult, strong science fict, and matured things are what make yugioh a yugioh! Not solving problem with chlidren card game😴.
Bandit Keith's own hand turning into a gun really got to me, it would've looked scary if it was Animated
@3:38 the manga having this flashback also makes Kaiba's staking his life in a duel to enter the Pegasus castle even more poetic
if you never read the manga, it would have been totally out of the blue
You should have included the part where Yami Marik gets beheaded or where Mai gets cut open through the torso.
It really is, and I def agree that there is a lot more you can do in terms of twisted stuff in mangas as compared to animes
It's more of it would be seinen if they fully adapted the manga to the anime. Or it wouldn't be shounen. Dark side of dimensions, Ryuji Otogi (Duke)'s father did appear he was the clown and he fired jounouchi.
Yeah that's a fair point (had to look up what seinen was) xD
Is it confirmed that was his dad or are u just assuming?
it's confirmed well I watched the sub and Jounouchi mentions him. And it's very obvious for manga readers it's him.
Joey: that yugi is a good guy
Yugi: hey pharaoh remember when you set that guy on fire
Atem: what about it?
I think it's funny that Malik was such a good villain, but he wasn't really a standout duelist compared to the other characters. He was inferior to Ishizu (and probably Rishid) in the flashbacks and possibly never caught up. He cost Rishid a win against Jounouchi, and he had fluky wins against Mai and Bakura. Then, he should've straight up lost to Jounouchi. The Sun Dragon Ra was the only thing that made him win at all.
His deck was build around The Sun Dragon Ra (and SOME effect damage cards)
It's funny that Rishid nearly destroys Jonouchi but Marik nearly loses to him.
Yeah the anime had to tone down we have to tone down some of the scene
I always thought Marik destroyed Pandora's mind after delivering his message in the anime.
Hey number 3 is shown at season 0! Great video btw
Gozaburo got heart attack in Toei anime after Seto's "betray"
you forgot to mention that bandit keith lived because of marik but was revived by the antagonist of yugioh r inthe manga
The Mai vs Marik fight was censored in the anime
They need to make a remake with EVERYTHING from the manga in the anime. One of the biggest differences is Bakura's entire appearance and I think I'm not the only one who was mad asf learning that the anime rarely gave him screentime and changed his character. (Ryou and Yami Bakura to an extent)
Same.
I agree, because as a kid when ever I saw him I was like, who tf is this and why do all the characters keep acting like he's there friends, turns out its because they play off his storyline from Zero
I do hope you decide to do that in-depth video on Duke Devlin, would be quite interesting to see that character given more dimension.
Yeah I think I am going to tackle that soon! I do a series called manga vs anime analysis, would love to do his character for that soon!
I was about to sleep
Then I saw Dylan just uploaded a video
Thanks Teody! But you can always sleep first, my videos aren't going anywhere! :)
Thanks Dylan for another great video
#8 Plus side for the anime change, it gave us one of Kaiba's best badass moments.
how deep did the saw cut through Pandora’s leg? the world may never know!
xD Some things are probably better left unsaid!
I actually don't think they removed it because it was too dark. Rather because blood means fluid physics which are a pain to animate.
LOVED THIS, please do the duke devlin video
I knew the manga was darker... but dang, that is just f**ked up. Like Season 0 level messed up. When yugio thinks its Beserk.
Other than the penalty, I remmember that the duel between Mai and MArik was different in the mangá, where she was mostly tortured. Imagine if that duel was fully adapted these days?
Wow this list was pretty gruesome. You should do a list on Yu-Gi-Oh! 'S top 10 best or worst Fathers as there are quite a lot. XD
Thanks for the suggestion! Top 10 worst fathers would actually be a pretty funny list, maybe a Fathers Day Special?? xD
@@YugiohEverything Yeah. It would be a hilarious one to see. But yeah it could be a fathers day special.
You deserve from me a subscribe man I love this
Im surprised this video was not made sooner.
There are SO many good topics to cover, I'm finally glad I got around to this one!
Start at 1:10
if you could make more videos like these when you compare the anime to the manga I'd absolutely love that! Really enjoyed this video! (except the thought of having a bunch of flesh-eating bugs above your face :x
LOL I will try to make more content like this! Thank you so much Kasper!
So that's how you stopped showing your face you went bald. Dammit I wasn't even close
In the number 1, it sounds pretty dark with burning someone to death too
What’s funny the 4kids version isn’t manga accurate, however season 0 is manga accurate
I remember Mr. Clown and the fire. I loved that manga.
a another thing about mindcontrolled Joey vs yugi: If kaiba try to stop their duel i think the rarehunter try to kill Mokuba
My favourite moment is the one with mariks father. Fucking dark, fucking sinister... . Also the one with Pandora is waaayyy too much if you ask me. Like wtf make people hang themselves??
Fun fact, Bandit Keith was resurrected in the Yu-Gi-Oh R manga
So that explains the Duke event in Duel Links.
9:00
I think it was for a different reason. They wanted Anzu to be able to speak and so that's why they changed it.
this might not qualify as a change, but in the manga when priest mahad dies, we get very explicit, very bloody confirmation that, yes, that pendulum blade sliced him in half saw-style; the anime shows no blood whatsoever and avoids any reference to the gory reality of his demise. but, again, it still shows the blade swinging toward him before his soul enters magus of illusion, so it might not count as being changed, just majorly toned down.
