Actually, this specific talking sword - vendetta against the Tal'Dorei Council and all - is straight from one of the published CR sourcebooks. This was definitely planned.
Where Grog was too dumb to Corrupt Chet is too easy to Corrupt that the sword might have to do some over correcting.
This was one of my favorite recurring gags on that episode. I love Chet getting worked up by the sword. Travis rolls with it so well too.
It was hilarious, slightly concerning, but still hilarious.
Between the sword and the altercation with Shithead, this episode had me in tears with laughter!

Honestly I got a fantastic idea for a magic weapon now. The Conspirators Bane! It’s a talking sword that is totally convinced that just about anything and everyone other than it’s handler is part of a massive conspiracy and it will do anything to convince the user of this and to seek the truth and strike at its perceived threats! Might come with an advantage for insight checks.
I feel that in that case, it would make more sense to make it so that the character has a certain chance to feel they are being lied to instead, making the PC feel more suspicion towards others and trust the sword more than his allies, since if they pass the insight and know that the other is speaking truth, the sword would be losing credibility on their paranoia-like suspicion of others.
@@Mkronox I agree! I also pondered maybe adding in some other kind of small buff. Perhaps to perception, intelligence or investigation. Specifically for trying to figure out/find clues or solving certain kinds of puzzles.
Sure the sword would be suspicious of everything and everyone to a comical level but a broken clock is right twice a day and all that

@@jefcrow3534 I think you misunderstood, the chance that the character feels they are being lied to, comes from when they are speaking to other pc or npc, not from the sword. By making them feel that others are lying to him, he will start to believe the sword more
I feel like disadvantage would make more sense and be much funnier lol it would be like clouding the wielders mind to the truth

I do not think he could do anywhere near enough damage to an archdruid especially in a single (or even a few) swings, unless the sword can damage specific targets far more than it would normal targets. Took paralysis and three ottohans multi-attacking and she still lived, keyleth is pretty damn strong (:
Oh I agree, he prob couldn't do it if she was at full strength, but after a fight, with surprise? Now, I'm not saying he should do it, just that it would make for an interesting shift in tone to have previous and current characters having either a full on antagonistic relationship or at least motives opposed to one another. Nope, it's Graz'tchar, full info you can find either on officil CR wiki or in Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn, but if you don't want spoilers and interested in what this is, it's very powerful sword, that can in best case doom Chetney, in worst it can doom all this campaign
