Sometimes I double the bass-trombone with the left-hand of the piano, and the baritone-sax (leaving the upper 3 x trombones for other duties). It's quite a good effect, and the bass-trombonists seem to enjoy the exposure (nor do they complain even if the melodic-line is quite intricate).
