    I know this is a fairly old video from 2018 but I just discovered it today. I would like to thank you for the detailed but easy to understand explanation of this serious problem along with some solutions. While I don't have any Budgies myself, I will definitely be bookmarking this video so that I may share it with any other bird parents whom I meet who may be experiencing this serious problem with their Bidgies.
    I have subscribed to your channel and am looking forward to watching videos.
    Take Care,
    Gord

    I had the same problem with one of my mother budgies and still currently do. She always gives up on them when atleast one of them starts to get white fluff and small feather growth and some of the others may still be pink, she has even attacked some to the point of killing them due to the injuries. I keep a spare nesting box and I will always just transfer them into that box after a few weeks of them hatching. I place them in the new box and sit it lower in the aviary and the father will always come down to feed them when they call while the mother one mates and breeds again. She is only attacking as she is trying to move them out to breed again. Seems a bit drastic but that is their nature unfortunately, so give them a guiding hand to prevent any injury or death to the baby budgies.

      I know this is a delayed reply…in the wild it isn’t unusual for the father to take over the clutch in order for the mother to start another brood of chicks chicks. Being in captivity can obviously interfere with their natural cycles. In nature the mother has the option to exit and distance from the other brood and find another nesting location.

      These things are necessary for educational purposes. A few seconds of pain for the little bird will educate many owners on how the bites look and spare many, many other birds from going through that.

    There is an abundance of food and the mother wants to start a second brood but there is only one breeding box for her and her mate. Normally in the wild the male can care for the older brood while the mother lays and broods a second clutch of eggs in a new nesting location. In captivity this can be replicated by adding a second breeding box to the reproductive pair cag, in which case this could correct the issue. By time the first brood with the father are old enough to be independent and separated to a grow out cage, the second brood with the mother would be ready for the father to now help with the feeding of those chicks as they continue to hatch and the number of young chicks increases.

    You have a great, helpful channel!! I have an outdoor aviary with about 20 parakeets in it. Recently the nesting moms have become very territorial and aggressive. One baby chick with pin feathers has been found on the aviary floor THREE times now, so I am hand feeding it and raising it in the house. The mom has picked off all the feathers from its head. I'm looking up solutions! Other than that, he/she seems to be healthy, growing, eating and likes it when I hold him! Your channel is great and I'm now a subscriber!!

    • @FuadPhenomenon
      @FuadPhenomenon  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the parent(s) will stop feeding at a point when it believes the baby is too grown up to eat by itself (many cases its not the case) which is why handfeeding is required. Sometimes they do that when they don't want to resume the duty or want to breed again to have more babies for why they don't want to keep the ones at the current stage,

    Can you help me ? Please ! I have 3 baby budgies, one is 14 days old, one is 12 day old and 10 days old. The mother has been plucking the feathers off the baby budgies for 5 days. I separated the mother , the dad was not feeding them for 6 hours. I tried to feed them with baby budgie food, but they didn't eat it!I used a spoon and a syringe and they didn't eat it. I made brown rice and cooked eggs, and they didn't eat it. They only like to be fed by their mother. I brought the mother back, she feeds the babys regularly, but she continues to pluck off their feathers . Don't know what else to do, any advise would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    • @FuadPhenomenon
      @FuadPhenomenon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is certainly a reason behind the mother attacking her babies. She may want to mate again, perhaps too dense inside the cage or something else. However, plucking their feathers could lead to severe harm when they grow up. The babies don't know that what you tried to do using syringe or spoon was known as feeding. Its better to first start with a syringe and (yes you have to force feed initially) then the babies can understand that it is food. I have a separate video on handfeeding baby budgies. Remember the food needs to have the right density and temperature. Here is the video:

    Do u feed them fresh chopped veggies and fruits? Also, they need pellets, seeds, nuts, millett at all times , cuttlebone at all times, vitamins, egg food for parents so egg shells wont be soft, feed boiled or scrambled eggs too. Parents need soft foods that are easy to digest in order to feed babies. FB has several parakeet/budgie groups that can help with questions. Late reply, but I always find it irksome when people comment unsolicited basic advice to people who make their entire public persona (their channel, in this case) about that specific topic. Not everyone is perfect or 100% knowledgeable on a thing, but it just seems really presumptuous to throw "advice" at others out of nowhere like that. If you're giving information for general consumption, like for other commenters, then maybe preface your comment in that manner. Just seems rude to me....

      Fuad Phenomenon We had a closer look, there are feathers plucked around its eye, and we gave it a little bit of spark, and a little dot of pain meds which seemed to work. We haven’t fed it yet since it’s got a full crop still, we made the horrible mistake of giving the mum another chance, last Monday she began plucking the babies so we began hand rearing them and we put them back after a night and it was all going fine, but clearly not

    • @FuadPhenomenon

      for how long are they together? age is not a huge factor in birds' breeding The previous male may have been the 'perfect' one for the female bird. Normally, a budgie gets rlly well bonded with just one another bird for its life. Maybe ur female is missing the other male. Just wait for some more time and get her used to the new situation

    *Why are you giving advice when you have TINY CAGES? 😂 You put the mom in a tiny, tiny cage with other bird. Do you let them out at all to fly around? Also, you do not have much food in their cages. Where's the fresh vegetables and fruit, grains, etc?*

      I figured out smth from this website:
      www.perkypet.com/articles/what-to-do-if-you-find-an-injured-bird
      "Place the wild bird in a cardboard box and cover it with a lid or towel. Then place the box in a cool, safe place to give the wild bird time to recover from the shock of the injury. Be careful when handling the injured bird; use gloves to protect yourself from any disease or germ."
      I believe that the bird can recover from cuts around the body without any medication. However, there are certain medicines that are beneficial but I'm uncertain about the names.

      I remember having a baby bird who injured her 1 leg. I made the mistake of letting it stay inside the box while the bigger babies (and the mother) bullied her. Her legs were kinda split and that troubled the entire time even after learning how to fly. To my experience, I would recommend for you to keep that baby on another bowl inside the cage away from the others so that the parents can feed separately

      Well, you can try putting a bowl so that the baby can stay on it. After making contact, does the mother still feed the baby? If the baby is too young, you may wann put it back in the nest box and make sure that the parents properly feed them
