Maybe a mad Scientist level ranking? Theres mostly one in every Soulsborne. Latria in DeS, Duke's in Ds1, Aldia in Ds2, a few in Bloodborne, Grand Archives in Ds3, Dungeon and Senpou in Sekiro and Raya Lucaria in Elden Ring.
It feels like Snow levels are either some of the best (Cainhurst, Loyce, Irithil, both painted worlds, Ashina Castle) or some of the worst (mountaintops and frigid outskirts)
DS2 dlc areas are so underrated, they're honestly one of the best designed areas in the series, with heavy emphasis on puzzles and unique encounters etc...
Brume tower is one of the few dark souls 2 areas that is great pretty much the whole way through. The only sections I think are really offensively annoying are the rooms where you drop down and have to pull a lever with no s with a lot of enemies. You can use a smelter wedge to distract them, but that only works once
There's a couple of rooms that give the classic "Dark Souls II bullshit" but it's probably the best designed vertical level from the early Souls games.
I absolutely love Brume Tower, but Volcano Manor is vary obviously #1. Even the way Lady Tanith sends you out to murder fellow Tarnished for a reason we're never given just adds to the sinister nature of the place. Love it.
Good List! Heres Mine: 10. Iron Passage: It's a tiny area and getting through the timed gates is a pain, you're movement is slowed and it's ganky as all hell, which means death! 09. Profaned Capital: I don't really count this as a fire area myself though you make a decent case for it, but even if I did I would still place the Profaned Capital towards the bottom, not for any particular reason other than I just find the area to be somewhat mediocre compared to the rest of Dark Souls 3. 08. Hirata Estate: This is another one I'm iffy on calling a fire level which is why I am ranking it this low, because I don't feel it can contend in that respect when held up against other honest to goodness fire themed areas, but make no mistake it's an excellently crafted area and would rank much higher otherwise. 07. Lost Izalith: Unlike the rest of the community I do like Demon Ruins in Dark Souls, but I do have to agree that while running on lava and torched branches is pretty rad, this area definitely seems like it wasn't fully realized. 06. Smouldering Lake: I think revisiting the ruins in Dark Souls 3 is a fascinating look at the destruction of the Demon race and makes the area compelling to me, but I can't rank it too much higher because of the identical halls you mentioned and somewhat annoying enemies. 05. Demon Ruins: Yes it's linear and reuses two previous bosses as downgraded enemies, but at least I do enjoy fighting them and I think aesthetically the ruins look amazing, but again I can't rank it too much higher because what we got in execution is okay but the potential was much greater. 04. Stonefang Tunnel: I quite like Stonefang tunnel, especially the second half where you crawl through the dark tunnels and lava pools, which gives this feeling of travelling deeper and deeper below ground. 03. Iron Keep: Getting the Keep's obvious weak point out of the way (it's ganky enemy placement), this towering fortress is still fun to explore with it's large scale and precarious platforming, as well as that purplish skybox. 02. Volcano Manor: It really seems like Fromsoft got the idea they had in Lost Izalith right here and I fully agree that the treatment of the lava opens up exploration, but on top of that the manor is a labyrinth of excellent level design much like the rest of the legacy dungeons in Elden Ring. 01. Brume Tower: There's a lot I love about Brume Tower, from the way the entire place is covered in Ash, to running across the giant chains that connect each tower, as well as the magnificent view while doing so, plus the overall difficulty and enemy encounters which culminate in two of the very best bosses in all of Dark Souls 2...which is why it is my favorite Souls fire level!
I think Dreg Heap has some potential to be seen as a fire level, by technicality. When a burning flame goes out, all that's left is ash, and the Dreg Heap is a perfect showcase of the world continuously being burned by the First Flame.
Crazy, i actually agree with basically everything you said. I too think Lost Izalith wasnt that bad in the 2nd half, i also think Brume tower is basically the best area is DS2. Good video mate
I felt that including it would have made things difficult as in my original Sekiro Area Rankings, I'd combined all the Ashina Castle variants into one section. Though of the three Ashina variants, it's actually my least favourite. It'd probably fall in 6th place, below Smouldering Lake ^^
20:27 That applies to all the other games too though, and Lies of P. If you find new stuff every time, it just means you didn’t explore thouroughly enough on your first playthrough, that’s happened to me in all these games, I find something new if I didn’t explore enough on my first playthrough, it makes sense and it’s what people should expect when they didn’t explore good enough. Also yeah I’m pretty sure most players found that Magma Wyrm, it’s not exactly very hidden.
Easier to miss stuff in an open world game like ER tbf. Not to mention Stormveil castle and Raya Lucaria have a lot of pretty deliberately hidden places. First game in the series i have actually missed stuff (except Cainhurst 😅).
@@Dasqal Again, it’s because they didn’t explore thoroughly enough on their initial playthrough, and yet somehow they act like they didn’t expect the game to offer more content when they already knew they didn’t do everything? None of these games has surprised me with the amount of content they have, because I knew that the possibility of me not having found everything they had to offer was high. And ngl it was harder to find optional places in previous games than in ER. Haligtree was easier to discover than Archdragon Peak, Great Hollow/Ash Lake or Cainhurst for example. Redmane Castle was easy to find (not that it was very hidden but it kinda is because you only need to do 2 legacy dungeons to progress the game which means each legacy dungeon is optional as long as you do 2 of them), and it was maybe the only time a FromSoftware game has disappointed me with lack of content when they had the opportunity to make it a legacy dungeon. Main point is: The previous games hides a lot of content, but Elden Ring doesn’t, so it’s only natural that people find new stuff each run with the previous games because Elden Ring shows players all it has to offer the entire way.
The fact that the smouldering lake is (correctly) number 5 is just indicative of the lack of depth fire area quality. Also I was going to subscribe but then i did parry the subscribe button as you advised
I debated on whether to include it, but found that the only flame aspect I ever paid attention to was the actual mini-boss glutton. From that point on, it's just grapple up the Demon of Hatred without much level interaction. Feels more like a sequence than a level, though I recognize I'm being a little nitpicky. If I had to place it in the list, I'd probably put it just underneath Izalith ^^
@@BillySYT It's mainly burned (heh) into my memory from it being the best farming spot. The bonfire that used to lead to the Chained Ogre lets you do a relatively easy loop of five of these high level enemies. These were vital to restoring resurrection points when fighting Isshin
random question: i know that Nashandra and Elena are shards of manus, Nashandra being Manus's greed and Elana being his Anger, Who are the other ones again, Nadalia from Brume tower and i forget the name of the one in Elyeum Loyce (atleast i think there was, i forget if there is only 3 with Nashnadra,Elana and Nadahlia or if its 3 plus Nashandra)
From my understanding Alsanna was meant to symbolize Manus' fear. Being the only one who is any nice to the player, this fits. She stayed by the ivory king's side because she was terrified of the world itself. As for Nadalia idk lol.
Bruce tower for real takes it . Fume knight and sir alonne plus that insane vertically in the level design it's honestly an absolutely miraculous level .
20:27 "Every time i replay Elden Ring i find something i didnt before, did you know theres a hidden magma wyrm in the lava down this elevator without a health bar? You do now" Actually fun fact, i just had the exact opposite realization then this a couple days ago Between my 21st birthday a week ago and a work injury i was at home for like, half the month? And this chick used that time to prep a bunch of Elden Ring builds for the upcomung Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC and when going through Volcano Manor this time I finally explored the prison town and found out that you can get to the Temple Of Eiglay without going past that Magma Wyrm(the first way I ever found was to just jump down into the lava and roll to the corner where that elevator takes you and until this time that was all id ever done) and was shocked to learn that yeah, the rooftops of the sinking lava houses go to the the Godskin Noble as well Lovin your videos as always and I think a good ranking for next time could be desert/mining/cave/excavation areas, as few as there are
Seeing Iron Keep so high because it's so visually cool is something I wasn't expecting... And boy howdy am I happy to see that underrated place there - it gets way too much shit compared to some of the other areas within FromSoft
It doesn't deserve the shit it gets from an actual level design perspective. Some of the best area design in Souls. Just needs enemy AI fixes, which is just a general DS2 issue
I love Demon Ruins from DS3. It’s irrational. No idea why I love it but I do. Volcano Manor is my favorite though. Some of the graphics there look incredible. Textures on the volcanic rock. I’m weird.
I might be the only person to say this but Demon Ruins>Iron Passage. I had a friend help me kill the enemies over and over till they no longer respawned then we did his in return. This was on our co-op runs where we ran stupid builds for fun so we didn't want bad run backs if the boss bullied us.
Hey, I strongly disagree with your assessement that SOTFS made Iron Keep worse. I've recently 100% DS2 after doing the same in SOTFS and I have to say that the enemy placement is much easier to handle in SOTFS. The fact that the knights actually run to you means that you can slowly pick them off one by one in secure locations while in DS2 you have to face them in the open while being shot at by all the archers around. Probably the real reason was that I first played SOTFS before DS2 and so I was trained to go through the area like I had always done it in SOTFS. The unfamiliarity got to me. 😅
I strongly prefer being able to pick off the knights one after the other in the original DS2, because their aggro range isn't set up to high heaven, so it feels like I have to actually be tactical in which enemies I take down and when. SOTFS ruins that by having them all run up to you, so in that case, why even bother placing them throughout the level? Why not just leave them all in a conga line outside the door into the first major courtyard. It may be some people's preference, but it doesn't engage with me in the slightest because I'm not being challenged, I'm being rushed.
Vulcano manor deserves the first place, but how did smouldring lake get so high? The boss was decent, but there is nothing enjoyable to me about the demon ruins or the lake itself. It should be lower than the profaned capital.
The bottom tier of the list was for awful areas, or areas that don't quite have enough theming to justify a higher placement. Smouldering Lake at least manages the theming, and honestly my appreciation for the area's grown since I figured out the devs progression intentions there (they just royally fucked the execution).
The Bed of Chaos is not a controversial boss, I’m sorry 😂 I know there are some people who don’t have a visceral hatred for it, and even a small group of masochists who actually enjoy it, but I think it’s pretty universally despised among the community. That said, I’m going to be the one guy who sticks up for the Demon Ruins in DS1. There are two reasons I take on the BoC first for the Lord Souls: 1) to get that boss out of the way as quickly as possible, and 2) because I have a soft spot for the Demon Ruins, specifically. The path out of Quelaag’s Domain into the blistering landscape of the Demon Ruins always felt epic to me. The groups of Taurus and Capra Demons, at least in my mind, makes sense. Perhaps they are the lines of defense to prevent intruders from disturbing Lost Izalith, and ready to show out in force to defend their twisted home. It’s an oppressive atmosphere, but it is the birthplace of demonkind. It’s not meant to be exactly welcoming to others. It’s not a top-tier level, but I am one of very few who will raise a glass to the Demon Ruins.
Hmmm... The issue there is that none of the enemies in Old Yharnam wield fire. Profaned mainly got included because on top of the Profaned Flame, every enemy in the area used it in their attacks. In Old Yharnam, everything's afraid of fire, nobody uses it. It's more of a poison area.
@@BillySYT Yes you do have a point with that really the only connection old Yharnam has with fire is in it's lore, because Djura throwing molotovs at you probably isn't considered a fire enemy
I was almost with you until the end. Maybe it's just recency bias, and this is gonna say how much the (successful!) replay of DS2 turned my opinion around, but I'd actually punt Brume Tower above Volcano Manor. Iron Passage can still rot in dead last beside the Demon Ruins, but both Brume Tower *and* the Old Iron Keep catapulted themselves to the top of my personal list once I got their numbers. It felt amazing busting pots and being able to sprint across lava with it feeling like a soothing pedi, while realizing just how interconnected Brume Tower was had me going 'ooooooh I can go this way and get around *insert enemy here* without having to fight it'. Meanwhile Volcano Manor's thing comes more in the form of impact. I *hate* actually going through Manor, but the aesthetics are so punchy and the kit you get so good that I'd still keep it really high...just don't ask me to go through it again please.
like youre rankinh you actualy played the souls games instead just started a random rant about it. The part u said about the original and scholar having worse enemy placements i fully agree with. Just like heide's tower with the heide knights and the dragon.
Listen, I'll accept including Profaned Capital if DS1's Kiln of the First Flame is also a fire level. Not DS3's, though, that's just a slope up to a boss.
I didn't include the Kiln because the fire isn't actually utilized as a progression mechanic. In Profaned, every enemy wields fire & they shoot the profaned flame at you. Kiln, none of the black knights use flames, only Gwyn does, and he's a boss, not an area.
Honestly i think soulsborne fire levels are worse than poison levels since while poisons annoying an certain levels such as farron keep and 5/2 are horrible for the most part non of them really trigger me the way every level but the top 3 do on this list (Ps really excited for snowy levels)
top fire level? Me, especially as a powerful pyromancer. Can you accomplish getting past me? Just kidding. Rate me lower. Anyway, onto the video! And another idea for a video: Top 10 debuffs in soulsborne. I'm sure scarlet rot will be number one. /sarcasm
I just thought about the possibility of a dark souls II remake. The devs have the chance of remaking ‚DS2 + DLCs‘ instead of ‚DS2 Scholar of the first Sin‘. They could make the game great again while also reworking the janky gameplay a bit.
hirata estate is genuinely my favourite area in sekiro sure there are cooler looking ones but the enemies, bandits attacking the area and the bosses all are great
I love your chanel dude but you need to stop shitting on dark souls 2, seriously every souls youtuber that do list cant say a good thing about ds2 withouth saying how bad the game is as a whole and its getting boring and annoying.
With all due respect, Dark Souls II was my first Souls Game, I probably love it more than most people in the community, and it holds a dear place in my heart. But when I'm talking about it's areas, I'm bringing up the positives and I'm bringing up the negatives - I refuse to hide the fact that I have issues with the game, especially when many of those issues affect the topic I'm discussing in the video.
look I understand and I apologize, is just a matter of perception i guess because i dissagree with most criticism people has about dark souls 2 which i think is more about agreeing whit the larger mob mentality and going with the current than anything else, because to me the ganky as people call it nature of dark souls 2 has never been a negative thing and I could mention other examples of criticism the comunity has that are just bs, I guess I just had the oportunity of playing dark souls 2 at a a time when I didnt know the internets opinion about it and could really apreaciate it for what it really was and not for what dark souls 1 enjoyers wanted it to be thus I was able to actually form my own opinion about the game.@@BillySYT
yes, the better version and again, ganks are not a problem and as far as I remember the name of the game is DARK SOULS 2 Scholar of the First Sin. you ment vanilla, well nobody is talking about vanilla @@Dasqal

I gave the Gutter it's well deserved love in the Swamp ranking video. Such an underrated area
Where is the iron keep?
What if we get a new enemy named “Foreskin Duo” in the new Erdtree expansion?! 🤣
When I heard controversy I was about to say “ if this Mf puts volcano manor at four I’m gonna lose it” 😂😂
The scenes when I re-edit the video to start Number 10 off with Volcano Manor footage,
Baller video
like youre rankinh you actualy played the souls games instead just started a random rant about it. The part u said about the original and scholar having worse enemy placements i fully agree with. Just like heide's tower with the heide knights and the dragon.
Haven't watched yet but if Volcano Manor isn't number 1 I will be upset
I'm a happy man
Listen, I'll accept including Profaned Capital if DS1's Kiln of the First Flame is also a fire level.
@@BillySYT that's fair enough I suppose
I hear that FF14 greatness at the beginning of the video.
Where’s the mountaintops of the giants☠️
Honestly i think soulsborne fire levels are worse than poison levels since while poisons annoying an certain levels such as farron keep and 5/2 are horrible for the most part non of them really trigger me the way every level but the top 3 do on this list
(Ps really excited for snowy levels)
top fire level? Me, especially as a powerful pyromancer. Can you accomplish getting past me?
Just kidding. Rate me lower. Anyway, onto the video!
And another idea for a video: Top 10 debuffs in soulsborne. I'm sure scarlet rot will be number one. /sarcasm
11:27 ??? What
I just thought about the possibility of a dark souls II remake. The devs have the chance of remaking ‚DS2 + DLCs‘ instead of ‚DS2 Scholar of the first Sin‘. They could make the game great again while also reworking the janky gameplay a bit.
The whole "Scholar ruined DS2" is a total myth. Nearly every area is more ganky in the original.
hirata estate is genuinely my favourite area in sekiro
sure there are cooler looking ones but the enemies, bandits attacking the area and the bosses all are great
It feels like such a unique area in Sekiro too. Very different vibes to anywhere else in the game.
Yeah
Oh, what would I give to relive my first playthrough hirata
This list made me realize how weak the fire levels are in this series. Volcano Manor is the only one I would want to replay.
Not doing my man Brume Tower dirty like that :
@@BillySYT it’s probably my anti DS2 bias
DS1 is fantastic until you see the neon oof lava
DS1 Prepare to Die Edition neon lava ruining eyesight since 2011
Can confirm demon ruins is terrible qnd lost izalith is fine. Can't say anything about the others though
Profaned capital is more than going to yhorm just take other ladders lol
Skibidi toilet
I'm too old to understand your zoomer memes.
He’s hating on SOTFS not ds2. 😅
yes, the better version and again, ganks are not a problem and as far as I remember the name of the game is DARK SOULS 2 Scholar of the First Sin. you ment vanilla, well nobody is talking about vanilla @@Dasqal
@@jonasgucci Yeah, nobody is talking about vanilla, except the literal video you’re commenting on.
