    There's very little actual advice on the photography side. They're messy, they're hot, there's a delay... those are all things you figure out in real time. What I was hoping to find was best lighting setups, best time of day to shoot, what kind of shutter speeds, etc, etc, etc.

    What you used were "hot" smoke bombs. There is fire going on inside. You can buy "cold" smoke bombs, they work on a chemical reaction, nothing burning at all, much safer for photography. The military styled can smoke bombs are "cold" smoke. Hope this helps.

      Even Peacock Smoke, the safest ring pull smokes on the market, have a fire to ignite with their ring pull technology.

    I used one for the first time yesterday, there was an actual torch flame coming out of the hole. I don't think that is suppose to happen now seeing this video. I'm glad nobody got burnt and didn't start a fire. Definitely be cautious.

    • @timewithruby
      @timewithruby 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've used plenty of smoke tubes, your experience is typical. Flames can come out of to tube, it's scary but it happens. I find it's always best to put the smoke tube in a glass candle holder container with an opening on the top so that way if your tube randomly combust and bursts into flames, the fire will be safely contained.

    did you try colored flash (gels) with white smoke?
    i am wondering if it is more efficient to purchase, eg 10 of each color, or rather just get a bigger pack of white-only, then use (already owned) flash gels to color the smoke

    • @slrlounge
      @slrlounge  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did not try that, but I assume it would work. I think having the pre-colored ones takes some work out of it and I do think if you are using it to wrap a subject it would be hard to get the gel color to hit all parts of the smoke.

    • @slrlounge
      @slrlounge  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a great point. I think there are a lot more things that probably cause a lot more waste (fossil fuels, consumerism, lack of recycling). There are also a lot more broad uses for these smoke bombs than photography. Such as military use, sky diving, paintballing and other sports. That said, you've got a good point and it's definitely something to be aware of. -- Pye
