Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voice Play - the holy trinity of a capella. Tim, Avi, and Geoff are all friends. I understand that Tim worked with both Avi and Geoff to help them expand their lower range.
Great reaction guys!💖💖 Chris Rupp was the gent wearing a cowboy hat and check out the Sing Off version of Ring of Fire just to see the judges reaction!
You may want to watch Season 4 of the Sing Off. The season Home Free won. They perform Ring of Fire and Tim's final note is even lower than in this video. (almost inaudible). The audience and judges went nuts! Avi Kaplan also has a cameo appearance in Home Free's "Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget" (just an appearance, no singing with Home Free). To get a good idea of Tim's vocal range, you should listen to his solo's "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay" and "In My Room". Tim also has a duet with Austin, "My Maria". Enjoy!
For Acapella music: Home Free, VoicePlay, Pentatonix, and Peter Hollens. They are all good, Home Free (country), Pentatonix (pop), VoicePlay musicals and movies, although they all do all kinds of music.
You should check out a live video of this song and see how low Tim takes that last note! The fans go crazy just waiting for it! I've been there...it is awesome! Great reaction guys!
It seemed like you thought Avi did the last note. That was Tim. Not only was it a note few can hit, he sustained it for 13 seconds. You can see Avi singing the background portion as he puts on the hat. Btw, the preview at the end was for Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget. It is an original song written by Tim. As they filmed them both on the same day, Avi makes a cameo appearance in that video as well (visual only, he doesn’t sing.)
Chris Rupp is the one wearing the cowboy hat. Adam Chance his replacement was in Man of Constant Sorrow. Home Free won the Sing Off in 2013, Pentatonix won the Sing Off in 2011 or 2012. These two Acapella groups are great but totally different genres. Home Free is multi genre, as for Pentatonix is pop. Anyway End of the Road Boyz to Men cover, When a Man Loves a Woman, Unchained Medley, or Butts Remix are my suggestions. Great reaction guys!!!
Great reaction guys! They also cover "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash. Adam gets a little nuts in that one (in a good way)! It's one of their quarantine songs. Or, if you want to go non-country then I'd suggest "End of the Road" or "When a Man Loves a Woman". All are a must watch/listen!!
Definitely follow these guys. Multiple videos are filmed on locations four or five times a year. They have an off week from their tour this week and have been giving hints of the upcoming videos on Instagram. Ring of Fire and Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget were filmed in consecutive days shortly after Season 4 of the SingOff. Look for a cameo from Avi Kaplan in Champagne Taste.
Yes, more Home Free and Pentatonix until mid 2017 has Avi, then Matt joined as bass. Avi's solo stuff is gorgeous. He is a basso profundo (opera training), but his solo stuff doesn't always go very low. His songwriting and emotive qualities are amazing.
If you want to be blown away by Adam’s drums, check out Home Free’s collab with Lee Greenwood and the USAF Band doing “God Bless the USA”. Make sure you pick the one WITH Lee because they did a cover by themselves. Adam’s snares during the song climax will blow you away. Also, listen carefully at the very, very, end for a nice Rupp touch.
If you want to see more Avi, I’d recommend his solo stuff rather than Pentatonix (he left the group a few years back). He was obviously brilliant in PTX, but his solo stuff has so much more soul to it than doing the background bass in some pop covers.
that is because PTX is completely a corporate group...they lack any organic essence. I was wowwed at first but then when I got past the amazing talent of the individuals, I began noticing how empty the group comes off as.
@@whyme7996 I'm glad you said that. I've watched a few PTX music videos just to try to appreciate them simply because they seems so popular, but they leave me mentally shrugging my shoulders with a "meh". Home Free, on the other hand, engages my whole self and leaves me wanting more, more, more..! They have so much heart and soul to go along with their outstanding talent! Never felt that way about a group of singers before, but then I don't think there's ever been a group like Home Free. 😊
@@dot.e1340 I agree. Don't know what the big deal is with PTX. They never appealed to me. And I got completely turned off when I saw the nasty comments left by many of their fans belittling Home Free.
Yes, Adam Rupp's brother was there. Avi tipped his hat to Tim for that lower note. Not only did Tim his the lower note, he sustained it. Great reaction.
Chris Rupp is in this video, this a song they did on The Sing-Off (without Avi). Unfortunately Chris Rupp had left the band and Adam Chance was in the video Man of Constant Sorrow. They all do amazing job.
I have seen them in concert 3 times. Be prepared because Tim can make concrete vibrate....like that is for REAL! Also this was done not long after they won The Sing Off. Avi is a great friend of theirs. Yes Adam's brother Chris was in this video and of course left just after the first year they started getting some real play. As for Pentatonix, they are not Home Free so don't expect it to sound the same. Everytime I listen to another a Capella group, there is always something missing. They are okay, but none are really as good as Home Free. That's my opinion having been in music for longer than you are old. :)
Home Free and PTX's journeys on the Sing Off are out there, and could also be reacted to, if one were so inclined. ;) Pentatonix won season 3, and Home Free won season 4. It's where both groups got their big break. As far as I know they've never competed against each other. Though they did come back and do guest performances on the Sing Off after they won.
As a rule, I will recommend Home Free guys, with a couple of exceptions, one being Avi. He's done several solos on his own that are amazing. You also will want to check out Peter Hollens with Tim doing Misty Mountain and Sound Of Silence. Also, Chris Rupp was in this video, but not in Man Of Constant Sorrow. Adam Chance replaced Chris early in 2016. Keep going with Home Free and your audience will grow for sure.
I love the energy that you guys bring to your channel. Check out Down to the honky-tonk, Moonshine, Folsom Prison Blues, Meet in the Middle, Sunday Best and you need to check out Home Free 2013 NBC sing off competition 😀
AVI LEFT PTX at end when Tim hit low note did u see Avi change to cowboy hat funny IMO noone beats these guys there harmonies and there just so likeable and the best beatboxer glad yall enjoyed try HILLBILLY BONE will blow you away will be dancing have fun
This is so good. Avi has a wonderful voice. Pentatonix won season 3 of the NBC show the Sing Off and Home Free won season 4. They didn’t compete against each other but Home Free did beat Voiceplay which is another amazing a cappella group. Those 3 are probably the top ones. Avi has since left Pentatonix and went solo. That was Tim with that last low note. Tim helped Avi and Geoff (of Voiceplay) to sing lower. Guys are super talented. Chris was in that video in the cowboy hat. He’s in Home Free videos til 2016 when he went solo. Chance joined HF in March 2016 I think so he’s in Man of Constant Sorrow. If you like bass try Tim’s collaborations with Peter Hollens. Peter is an amazing a cappella artist and he loves working with Tim . They did Misty Mountains from the Hobbit (super low) and recently did You Can Close Your Eyes from James Taylor. Tim goes low in it and it so good. Love your reactions boys! 😃🥰
They were on a show called the sing off. Pentatonix won season 3 and home free won the season after, season 4. You really should check out pentatonix they are fricken amazing!!!.
If you do Pentatonix, start out with Daft Punk & Hallelujah from their earlier catalog that features Avi and then move to the newer stuff featuring Matt, his replacement. They are just as amazing and talented as Home Free. I would love to see their percussionist, Kevin get together with Adam and come up with something spectacular for us. They are both so amazing that a collab would put them in the stratosphere! And yes, Enter Negan with Lucille for the scenery on this one! lol.
There are many who are fans of both groups (PTX and HF); and those who prefer one over the other. As for me, to my ear HF has a warmer tone and all the voices are distinctively different but blend together so well, whereas PTX has a colder, harder tone and there are a few voices in there I can't tell apart unless I'm looking at the video to see who is singing.
Tim's part in this song is actually my favorite. Yielding the impressive bass verse to Avi and instead showing that his range actually goes a decent way upwards as well, and then punching us in the face at the end. So good. They also have a cover of Folsom Prison Blues if you want more Johnny Cash.
Great reaction! These guys are so incredible at everything they do!! Honestly, most of us Fries prefer their original version they performed on the Sing Off. Avi is Amazing, but the other version is a bit different & Tim goes even lower than this. Hard to imagine, but true. 😉🥰🥰
PTX is more the POP group, Home Free more Country and VoicePlay is very theatrical and you really can't go wrong with ANY of their songs ! It's too bad they ALL don't get the recognition that they deserve🤔 after all it is ALL done with only voices 🥰
Avi Kaplan left Pentatonix in 2016(?). When Avi left, PTX lost a lot, but Avi won a lot. He found himself and started a brilliant solo career with his own sound and his unique voice. His sounds really touch me. I love the collaboration here with Home Free. Tim and Avi with their own deep Bass sound. Chris Rupp was still a part of HF here. Chance came later. Chance was already in Man of Constant Sorrow Every day I listen to Avi and Home Free.
September 3, 2017 is when Avi left Pentatonix. He left due to touring burnout which is a serious problem in the music industry and one that his management company, Redlight, is very involved in keeping their artists safe from. Their artists' tours are shorter with more free time between appearances. May 20th is the release date for his new record of 11 songs, "Floating On A Dream". His tour starts in Europe mid March and goes through the USA. Hope you have an opportunity to hear him live if you like him.
@@gailseatonhumbert I'd like to go to Avi's performance. He comes March 27 in Nijmegen Netherlands. But I probably can't because I don't have transportation. I live in Apeldoorn. He also comes to Utrecht, but there are only standing places. Unfortunately, due to a past accident, I can't stand for long. I am very disappointed because Avi's voice and songs really calm me down.
@@JoanN63 The standing only is an issue. He will move to bigger venues with seats as he becomes more well known. The pandemic came at the very worst time for Avi starting his new music.
Avi is no longer with Pentatonix, he is on his own and he is amazing. Check him out sometime. Chris Rupp was not in Man of Constant Sorrow. He is in this one. Dude with the black hat. :D
I respect you love the group. I knew of Pentatonix from surfing the web. I didn't know about "The Sing-Off". I was bored w/ holiday re-runs/sports specials, so surfed through TV channels when came upon The Sing-Off the year Home Free won. I watched every single episode. I even watched when they sang & won the Sing-Off. Ironically, timing plays into this; they had auditioned 2xs for this competition & were rejected. They changed members after 2nd audition. Tim & Austin joined the group prior to the last audition & got in. They were AFTER Pentatonix won the year earlier. Home Free may have been forced out had they competed the same year they were in & not won. BTW Pentatonix was one of the ensembles that joined only specifically for the reality show competition. 3 were HS friends (Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado). They sang together for a few years, then went off to different colleges. One joined a college a cappella group & found out last minute about the competition. Contacted his friends all agreed to compete. Ready to apply when told needed a beat boxer & bass to qualify literally last minute. They recruited Kevin Olusola (outstanding beat boxer alien similar to Adam of Home Free) & Avi Kaplan a bass who was an operatic singer. Matter of only a few days, developed a sound, auditioned & got accepted into the competition. Rest is history winning it w/ not only outstanding vocals, but great bass & beatbox. They had only worked together for less than a week's time before the show. Their TH-cam channel currently has over 19 million subscribers & 5 billion views. The group's video tribute to Daft Punk had received more than 355 million views as of November 20, 2021. Avi resigned after a few years. He's now making music on his own. He has his own media accounts & sing along with other groups.
I love both versions of this song, but must admit I like this competing bass duo. There's a distinct difference between the show version & this arrangement. Chris Rupp (co-founder) was still the in the group doing both versions as baritone but doesn't have the range or ability to cover bass parts that Avi does. Later when Chance (first name is Adam use last name differentiate) replaced Chris can hear covers the bass line that gives Tim chance sing tenor and, vice versa.
NOTICE: Many don't realize hearing a serious bass line all throughout the song which Chris couldn't do. When Tim is singing lead, Avi is covering the bass line. When Avi is singing lead, TIM is covering the bass line. Both are attempting to have the exact sound/articulation when it's done, so it sounds as one bass, not them interchanging with each other. The uniqueness of their voices stands out sing lead not as backup. Near the end, both Avi & Tim are singing duet with each other. Avi drops a couple of times before Tim's low note. Yes, to show off but to set up Tim's last low note moving the groups' key signature down to the note. When the last low note is hit, Avi smiles & gives Tim a hat salute (many mistakenly think it's Avi hitting the note it's Tim with his outstretched hand). As for Avi being in the video, it does 2 things, it gives Foust strong back up as he sings lead & also shows "both" of their ranges as Avi sings tenor too. Avi Kaplan has been for a few years an independent artist away from Pentatonix. Nowadays, Avi, Costelluci & Foust are doing side projects with other groups or on their own. Top 3 basses since Sing-Off fame is Tim Foust, Avi Kaplan & Geoff Castellucci. There are other capable & amazing basses, these are associated w/ top a capella groups & been in spotlight: Vocal range has been "guessed" at not fully accurate as seen multiple ranges for them Tim Foust's range C1 - A5 (Home Free 4th season winner The Sing-Off) Avi Kaplan's range F#1- E♭5 (formerly Pantatonix 3rd season winner The Sing-Off) Geoff Castellucci range C1 - A5 (Voice Play 6th runner up 4th season The Sing-Off competed against Home Free) Home Free did this version of Ring Of Fire for The Sing-Off (minus Avi Kaplan). They were unsure how it would come across being it was a Johnny Cash standard in country music, unsure purists would hate & disavow them. It did surprisingly well, as it helped them continue on to win that season. It also became one of their popular songs as well boosting them into a strong social media & performing circuits. I strongly suggest when have time to watch the videos of that year's The Sing Off. Sing-Off didn't gain the popularity as AGT although on for a few years. It did have knowledgeable judges & good a capella groups. I urge you to watch from first episode to last Home Free, Voiceplay & Pentonix's competitions. Timing also in that before Pentatonix & after Home Free the other winners & competitors didn't get the fame being on that show as it brought them. Filharmonics (another Home Free competitor check-out their joint venture, quite entertaining) was seen on Corden's late night show. [I first started my interest with Pentantonix loving their sound. Then I gravitated to Home Free splitting time with VoicePlay. Both are highly talented. VoicePlay is more theatrical background stemming from being Disney & Universal theater performers. While Home Free is in category like The Monkees (Sunday Best, Butt Medley, 9-5 play up on that.) Re: VoicePlay 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' which find hilarious & sounding good along with You're a Mean Man Mr. Grinch, Superstition, Wish I Was A Rich Man, Tennessee Whiskey & Mission Impossible are popular songs. Big, Bad, John, Sixteen Tons & Blackbird, Monster Mash & When She's Gone are Geoff's creations, ] ----------- Regarding this song: Johnny Cash's personal life couldn't have been more interesting. He was an on/off an addict. His first wife was rumored to be a light-skinned Black which caused some controversy. While married, Cash toured with the Carter Family which resulted in a blossoming creative relationship with June Carter that later became romantic. That led to marital problems with Cash's wife, Vivian Liberto having a young family. As for the song "Ring of Fire", June Carter not Cash wrote it supposedly about their "forbidden" love. He was married (1st wife) with kids, as well as, her ( 2nd husband) with kids. Eventually, they divorced their spouses and married each other. They were married for over 30 years with 1 son together before Carter's death. It never was intended for Cash or June to sing this, her sister cut the record first. Then they did it as a duet for 'a' show & the rest is history. The 1963 country music hit became synonymous with the 'Man in Black' for the rest of his career, topping the country chart for seven weeks and spawning myriad covers in Nashville & other genres over the next 50 years. It's one of the greatest hits of Cash's career, one he never wrote but was about him. Lyrics: Love is a burnin' thing And it makes a fiery ring Bound by wild desire I fell into a ring of fire I fell into a burnin' ring of fire I went down, down, down And the flames went higher And it burns, burns, burns The ring of fire, the ring of fire I fell into a burnin' ring of fire I went down, down, down And the flames went higher And it burns, burns, burns The ring of fire, the ring of fire The taste of love is sweet When hearts like ours meet I fell for you like a child Oh, but the fire went wild I fell into a burnin' ring of fire I went down, down, down And the flames went higher And it burns, burns, burns The ring of fire, the ring of fire I fell into a burnin' ring of fire I went down, down, down And the flames went higher And it burns, burns, burns The ring of fire, the ring of fire And it burns, burns, burns The ring of fire, the ring of fire The ring of fire, the ring of fire The ring of fire
The guy that wears the cowboy hat throughout the song is Chris Rupp. Also going to see them for the 1st time tomorrow night in Tifton, GA, hometown of Austin!
In an interview with Chris Rupp he said that this video was made in the farm yard of their manager at the time. They circled his trucks around the got the overhead shots with the person doing the video standing in the scoop of an earth mover. That it was so cold (it was made in the Rupp's home state of Minnesota) that they kept having to put more logs on the fire. You can see their breath vaporize!
Home Free is amazing. For me, the only thing better then listening to a Home Free song, is watching a Home Free video. However, seeing them live is a whole other level. Definitely worth the price of admission! My only suggestion is, don't wear shorts. You need something to absorb the waves of base crashing against your legs!
Chris Rupp (Adam’s brother) actually wasn’t in Man of Constant Sorrow but he was in this one. A good way to recognize him is he almost always has his trademark cowboy hat on. Check out the Butts Medley. He’s also in that one. Another great listen is their original song “Champagne taste on a beer budget” written and arranged by Tim Foust himself it’s guaranteed to make you laugh Pentatonic is a great group as well. Avi was their original bass singer but he left for personal reasons. Check them out starting with their cover of “Hallelujah” and go on from there. They will blow your mind!
If you are going to check out Pentatonix now, you need to check out Daft Punk which is a mash up of Daft Punk songs. And don't forget to wear headphones so you can catch every little EDM sound. You won't regret it. They also do Love Again which is an original EDM piece and it is sick.
I enjoy it so much when you react to Home Free -- this was great! And Pentatonix is a definite must-check-out for sure. Most people start with either Sound of Silence or Hallelujah.
Yes, Chris Rupp is in this video. He was the only one in the cowboy hat until Avi put one on. Pentatonix won season 3 of "The Sing Off". Home Free won Season 4. Another group to check out is Voiceplay (who was also on season 4). All 3 of these groups know each other and members collaborate from time to time. Geoff Castellucci (Voiceplay bass singer) helped arrange the Home Free/Oakridge Boys version of "Elvira" and Tim Foust makes a hilarious appearance in Voiceplay's fundraiser "Just Sing" (make sure you have the captions on). Pentatonix is great, but reactors seem to have a lot of issues with copyright blocks. You may have to blur out the video, but Pentaholics already know this and are more interested in seeing others experience the group. Definitely check out their "Daft Punk" medley (first Grammy) and their cover of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".
Avi's voice is like rich, hot chocolate while Tim's is like a grizzly bear (at least that's how I see it). I prefer Tim's voice because I like my bass singers to have more grit when they sing, but I always love to hear Avi as well. I will say that you should have reacted to the Sing-Off version of this song, which was live and in a competition setting (and with a better arrangement, in my opinion) and they killed it! Also, Tim has helped other bassists improve the lower end of their range, such as Avi as well as Geoff Castelluci from VoicePlay (you should totally check out VoicePlay, just go to their TH-cam page, close your eyes and randomly pick a song, you won't be disappointed either way) and Chance from their own group. Geoff Castelluci has almost the exact range that Tim has (around 5 octaves give or take a few semitones) and has arranged a few of Home Free's music videos. Anyways, nice reaction boys!
Guys. So, Chis is the one wearing the cowboy hat throughout the video. This was done 8 years ago when Avi just left PTX to go solo, btw has great solo material out there. And Tim hit that final base note and held it steady for 13 seconds. This is HF's most watched video with 39 million views.
Hey guys. I decided to check you out b/c I’m on a Johnny Cash kick just now and I’m loving your reactions. But I’m also laughing out loud sitting here all by myself. I have watched a lot of Pentatonix reactions and you’re saying the same things - so much talent, have to listen again, how does the beatboxer do that? If you decided to give them a listen, maybe start with the Daft Punk medley, which does include Avi. I’m subscribing in the hope that you will. Peace from Ohio …
Home Free was one of the first groups to get me into acapella. They are amazing and check all the boxes. The whole group, even after Chris left the group, is still stupid solid. And since the video started with hitting the bass, check Voiceplay's Oogie Boogie Song! Geoff hits hard! There are a handful of bass compilations of Tim, Geoff, and Avi going hard. Even one of time blowing some speakers! Def check them out
You guys should know that Chris Rupp after leaving The group, started his own YT reaction channel. Look up "Chris Rupp Reactions" because he reacts to Home Free's videos that he produced and edited. He even reacted to Ring Of Fire so he has lots of background info he shares as he watches the video. Also, Tim Foust did a collaboration with fellow Acapella singer Peter Hollens on "Misty Mountains", a song from the Hobbit movie. Peter brings the high harmonies and Tim hits those low bass notes. Peter is a master of editing and layers his voice over 130 times for a choir effect. It's a masterpiece!
Avi actually blew a speaker once, when performing Pentatonix song "natrual disaster" because his voice is so damn low ^^ Fun fact: Avi is actually trained in opera. I highly recommend reacting to Pentatonix performance of "aha" in singapore, his opera voice comes to show there.
Home Free won the 4th season of The Sing off, while Pentatonix won the 3rd season. They didn't compete with each other. Adam Rupp's brother Chris was not in the Man of Constant Sorrow video but IS, in fact, in this video. Adam Chance was in Man of Constant Sorrow and did the mouth harp sound. I am a Pentaholic and a Home Fry (or PentaFry).
I have saved a link to your videos page, and I plan to watch more of your Home Free reactions, and I look forward to you discovering Pentatonix and when you get around to them, Voiceplay. The best Pentatonix song to react to first is Hallelujah because each singer gets a solo.
Ok,PTX won the FIRST season of the Sing Off,Home free won season TWO,with Voice play coming in a close second to Home Free on season 2.Tim,Avi,&Geoff ( the 3 basses) are all good friends and work on things together.Geoff helps arrange things sometimes for Home Free, and Avi shows up in some Home Free videos.PTX is beyond amazing, but their style is more a pop feel or modern songs,Home Free is mostly country but they can do ANY style ( try their Butts medley) and Voiceplay is mostly theatrical. All 3 are FANTASTIC and any members from any of these groups with a solo career is phenomenal. For a start you have Tim,Austin&Chance from HF with amazing solo stuff ( check out Tim & Austin doing My Maria,or ANY of Tim's solo stuff...all GOLD,or Austin doing Bring Him Home from Les Miserables),Avi & Superfruit and Kevin K.O.from PTX slaying their solo stuff (which I highly recommend Kevin's solo cover of Down which he completely SLAYS,and Geoff Castellucci from Voice play killing it solo (check out 16 tons,Blackbird,& Shenandoah).also since you've started your acapella journey give the Bass Gang a try as well and Peter Hollins who works a lot with Tim & Avi and also has amazing solo stuff as well.😃Have fun exploring the world of acapella... I also would recommend the Daft Punk medley or Love Again to start with by PTX,then move on to either Hallelujah,Imagine, and Can't Hold Us by them for newer tracks by them without Avi but with Matt,I recommend New Rules X Are you that somebody? Next.👍you guys are so fun to watch!!😄keep the reactions comming!!✌
Oh ya,almost forgot Chance covering Oo Da Lally from Disney's Robin Hood and his Wellermans sea shanty cover with the Hound & the Fox....solo good!!that reminds me,the Hound & the Fox are awesome too!!!😄✌out!
Guys! You have to check out Avi Kaplans solowork! Start with Cange on the rise and just take it from there, his voice is amaizing and the lyrics in all his songs just hit you hard.
Both Home Free and Pentatonix competed in the same a capella competition show, called "Sing Off", but in different years and each won their years' competition. They have never competed against each other. They are unique in their own ways, and I LOVE Home Free, but Pentatonix is pursuing this as their career and are constantly seeking to improve their abilities and try new techniques and styles and their whole lives seems to be about being PTX. And Home Free seems to just be having fun. Both are awesome groups, but one has 3 grammys and nearly 20 millions subscribers, and the other has around a million subscribers and the best medly ever about Butts. I think Home Free are equally talented and capable and enthusiastic about a capapella, maybe just not as ambitious or...as full on as PTX. Home Free are more laid back and casual, that's their style, who they are. Love them both and can't wait for you to react to both.
Just wanted to add, I really do think both both groups have a plethora of talent. Each member can sing beautifully (though Mitch is in a league of his own), better than most artists on the radio. Both have amazing vocal percussionists -though Adam has a greater variety of instruments in his catalog. And both groups have amazingly talented basses; Tim has a deeper range, I think, but Avi has a fuller sound in the bottom end (probably his opera training) than Tim or Matt (PTX's current bass). But I do think PTX PURSUES their career (it's kind of why Avi left, not wanting to continue with PTX's crazy schedule) while Home Free just kind of...let's it happen. What does everyone else think?
Pentatonix and Home Free were both on a show called the Sing Off. Pentatonix won the season before. Home Free and Pentatonix never competed head to head. They both trspect each other but have very different styles.
I love Home Free AND Pentatonix, don't listen to the Penta-naysayers, check them out, you won't be sorry! Start with Daft Punk, then Hallelujah, Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody and so many more! Avi was with them until 2017 and then he left to go solo and Matt joined the group---he's awesome, too! As for Home Free, keep going, definitely check out the Butts Remix, Hillbilly Bone, they'll give you a laugh. Heck, check out everything, it's worth it!
Yep, Chris is in a number of their older ones. Do You Hear What I Hear is another old one but DAAAAANG it's good. You want to get haunted by Tim, go for Misty Mountains from The Hobbit. You'll see why they call him the dragon.
Chris Rupp is wearing the cowboy hat in this video. He is not in Man in Constant Sorrow. Adam Chance (goes by Chance) took Chris Rupp's place when Chris left the group, he is in the Man of Constant Sorrow. Avi Kaplan is no longer with Pentatonix. Thanks for doing reaction videos for Home Free. You guys are really fun to watch. Check out The Butts Remix video. It's really fun.
Home Free is great. Avi is great. He did leave Pentatonix in 2017 and has his own solo work. In fact, he just dropped a new MV and song, and has said a new LP is coming soon. Pentatonix is more on the Pop side, and Avi is more in Folk. I love Home Free's cover of Helplessly Hoping (originally Crosby, Stills and Nash) - great harmonies!
Chris Rupp was in this video. He was the one with the cowboy hat. In fact, it was one of his cowboy hats that Avi put on at the end. By the way, Chris Rupp is not in the Man of Constant Sorrow video, it was Adam Chance who made the "mouth harp" sounds that gave the video it's real swampy quality.
Chris Rupp is the guy with the cowboy hat. And Tim got the last and lowest note. Another Johnny Cash cover is Folsom Prison Blues, it's in my opinion even better
Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voice Play - the holy trinity of a capella.
Tim, Avi, and Geoff are all friends. I understand that Tim worked with both Avi and Geoff to help them expand their lower range.
Tim taught Avi the growl technique or as it is known in Europe "fire breathing". Not used in classical or opera singing which is what Avi came from.
Try their "Hillbilly Bone" or "The Butts Medley" for fun ... these guys can be so goofy but their harmonies are always perfect !!
Yes, Chris Rupp was in this one but not Man Of Constant Sorrow. You need to check out End Of The Road, Rob kills it.
What a great idea for a video! Have everyone seen the other one's part we will definitely see all of their octave ranges!
Great reaction guys!💖💖
Chris Rupp was the gent wearing a cowboy hat and check out the Sing Off version of Ring of Fire just to see the judges reaction!
I agree with Hazel, have a crack at Moonshine, great song, also My Church which is amazing and Dive Bar Saints which is a Home Free original
Home Free and Pentatonix have not competed against each other. They appeared in different seasons of the Sing Off.
Yes, Pentatonix won season in 2011 and HF won in 2014. I wish everyone would stop comparing them.
@@bobbie1st Agreed.
Enjoy!
You need to watch home free , “Crazy” you will get the full voice of Austin’s high note!
Avi appears 3 times actually.
Also go listen to this when they performed it on the sing off, Tim’s last note almost made the judges drop.... they couldn’t believe that note he hit
This is a classic by our guys. Supper fun with Avi! Tim actually helped him sing lower.😁
Avi's from PTX has a great solo career now. You should check out more Avi Kaplan music.
Check out Avi’s Change on the Rise. It will give you chills!
Yes please! Avi is so captivating, and extremely talented.
Adam goes insane in that one! 😳 🥰🥰
Aren't they just completely awesome??!! Home Free rules!!
Chris Rupp was in this video and that lowest note at the end was Tim Faust…. You brothers are great reactors also. I enjoy your channel…🎼🦋🎵💕🎶
Foust, not Faust.......he is a different guy.
Watch Champagne taste on a Beer Budget. It was recorded right after this one and Avi makes a cameo appearance in it.
@@dagmar.6954 Do not agree. But that’s okay…I’ve seen them in concert twice, and I’m a true PENTAHOLIC!
going to see them live in Tifton Georgia THIS FRIDAY! I'll think of you guys while I'm there.
Yes, Adam Rupp's brother was there. Avi tipped his hat to Tim for that lower note. Not only did Tim his the lower note, he sustained it. Great reaction.
Pentatonix won Season 3 of the Sing-off, Home Free won Season 4
Glad you did more Home Free . Check out How Freat Thou Art, Brothers in Arms and Castle on the Hill.
For your next Home Free, you should check out Folsom Prison Blues! For one of the best of Pentatonix, look at their Hallelujah... it's stunning.
Anything by Pentatonix you will love...so so many to choose from! Enjoy!
And yes, Enter Negan with Lucille for the scenery on this one! lol.
Should check out the version they did on "the sing off" is all them and it's live
Home Free has a new cover “Unchained Melody, it’s awesome!!! 🎼🦋🎶🎵
Yes I prefer HF, Pentatonix is good I just prefer HF
Tim's part in this song is actually my favorite. Yielding the impressive bass verse to Avi and instead showing that his range actually goes a decent way upwards as well, and then punching us in the face at the end. So good. They also have a cover of Folsom Prison Blues if you want more Johnny Cash.
Chris Rupp is in this video (cowboy hat). He was not in Man of Constant Sorrow.
Great reaction! These guys are so incredible at everything they do!! Honestly, most of us Fries prefer their original version they performed on the Sing Off. Avi is Amazing, but the other version is a bit different & Tim goes even lower than this. Hard to imagine, but true. 😉🥰🥰
Here I can only agree with you 🥰
I have to disagree but maybe only because this version with Avi was my intro to Home Free. Never heard of them or the sing-off until i heard this
PTX is more the POP group, Home Free more Country and VoicePlay is very theatrical and you really can't go wrong with ANY of their songs ! It's too bad they ALL don't get the recognition that they deserve🤔 after all it is ALL done with only voices 🥰
And check out the up and coming all female group, Citizen Queen. They share in the a capella awesomeness
Chance was already in Man of Constant Sorrow
Every day I listen to Avi and Home Free.
@@gailseatonhumbert yes you are right. Was briefly confused with Chris from Home Free😊.
@@gailseatonhumbert I know. I just hoping to see him live one day! You never know 😉
Avi is no longer with Pentatonix, he is on his own and he is amazing.
NOTICE:
Many don't realize hearing a serious bass line all throughout the song which Chris couldn't do.
There are other capable & amazing basses, these are associated w/ top a capella groups & been in spotlight:
Vocal range has been "guessed" at not fully accurate as seen multiple ranges for them
Tim Foust's range C1 - A5 (Home Free 4th season winner The Sing-Off)
Avi Kaplan's range F#1- E♭5 (formerly Pantatonix 3rd season winner The Sing-Off)
Geoff Castellucci range C1 - A5 (Voice Play 6th runner up 4th season The Sing-Off competed against Home Free)
Home Free did this version of Ring Of Fire for The Sing-Off (minus Avi Kaplan).
While Home Free is in category like The Monkees (Sunday Best, Butt Medley, 9-5 play up on that.)
Re: VoicePlay 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' which find hilarious & sounding good along with You're a Mean Man Mr. Grinch, Superstition, Wish I Was A Rich Man, Tennessee Whiskey & Mission Impossible are popular songs. Big, Bad, John, Sixteen Tons & Blackbird, Monster Mash & When She's Gone are Geoff's creations, ]

Regarding this song:
Johnny Cash's personal life couldn't have been more interesting.
Lyrics:
Love is a burnin' thing
And it makes a fiery ring
Bound by wild desire
I fell into a ring of fire
I fell into a burnin' ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire
I fell into a burnin' ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire
The taste of love is sweet
When hearts like ours meet
I fell for you like a child
Oh, but the fire went wild
I fell into a burnin' ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire
I fell into a burnin' ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire
And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire, the ring of fire
The ring of fire, the ring of fire
The ring of fire
Sooooo true! My insides were buzzing & trembling for days afterwards! 😆 🤣
@@momD612 I’ve heard Tim has warned some away from the subwoofers (often women for some reason)
What a great analogy!
Chris Rupp (Adam’s brother) actually wasn’t in Man of Constant Sorrow but he was in this one. A good way to recognize him is he almost always has his trademark cowboy hat on. Check out the Butts Medley. He’s also in that one. Another great listen is their original song “Champagne taste on a beer budget” written and arranged by Tim Foust himself it’s guaranteed to make you laugh
Pentatonic is a great group as well.
Definitely go down the Pentatonix rabbit hole! You'll love them. I promise.
I enjoy it so much when you react to Home Free -- this was great! And Pentatonix is a definite must-check-out for sure. Most people start with either Sound of Silence or Hallelujah.
Hallelujah if they are coming over to see Avi.
@@gailseatonhumbert Definitely that, for Avi!
And that is how it's done. Great reaction
At the camp ground. " TURN DOWN THAT DAMNED BOOMBOX ! WE"RE TRYING TO SLEEP !!! "
The bass at the first of the song is Avi Kaplan. At the end it's Tim Foust.
👍👏🤗
"That Guy" is Avi Kaplan he left Pentatonix and is now doing solo stuff....his house of the rising sun is awesome
Def check them out
Home Free + Avi Kaplan = 🔥🔥🔥🙌🙌
Yes, Chris was in this video, but was not in the Man of Constant Sorrow video. He had already gone out on his own by then. Nice job.
Adam Rupp is the beatboxer, Chris is his brother and he was in this one. Chance was in Man of Constant Sorrow doing the jaw harp sound!
2:25 "That guy went a little lower". I just giggled and waited.
In the original sing off version Chris Rupp did the baritone sections. He is there, but provides backing support in this.
Chris Rupp was in the video. Avi changed his hat to the cowboy hat in deference to Tim recognizing his talent!
I will always watch and give a thumbs up to anything with Avi Kaplan (cap lan) in it
I have saved a link to your videos page, and I plan to watch more of your Home Free reactions, and I look forward to you discovering Pentatonix and when you get around to them, Voiceplay. The best Pentatonix song to react to first is Hallelujah because each singer gets a solo.
I can only imagine the costumes
Yes that’s Tim on the last note. Watch Avis grin at the end when Tim hits the last note
Home Free also have their own music as well Dive Bar Saints is an Amazing song by them I recommend yall watch it!
Chris had the cowboy hat on. Tim hit that low note at the end.
Pentatonix and Home Free were both on a show called the Sing Off. Pentatonix won the season before. Home Free and Pentatonix never competed head to head. They both trspect each other but have very different styles.
My favorite one is the duel song Home Free does with the group Voice Play called Survivor
Please react to Pentatonix singing:
Hallelujah
Bohemian Rapsody
Daft punk
90’s Medley
I love Home Free AND Pentatonix, don't listen to the Penta-naysayers, check them out, you won't be sorry! Start with Daft Punk, then Hallelujah, Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody and so many more! Avi was with them until 2017 and then he left to go solo and Matt joined the group---he's awesome, too! As for Home Free, keep going, definitely check out the Butts Remix, Hillbilly Bone, they'll give you a laugh. Heck, check out everything, it's worth it!
Around the Fire clock wise is Avi, Austin, Chris Rupp, Rob, Adam, then Tim.
Avi doffed his hat to Tim Faust !!!
Best place for you 2 to start off with Pentatonix is probably the daftpunk medley. They won their 1st of 3 Grammys for it
Home Free is great.
If you want to hear Avi solo, check out his “Change on the Rise”… you won’t be sorry!!! His voice is 🔥🔥🔥
Check out Avi in his solo Change on the Rise!
Phenomenal.
Chris Rupp is the guy with the cowboy hat. And Tim got the last and lowest note. Another Johnny Cash cover is Folsom Prison Blues, it's in my opinion even better
Yes, Chris is there wearing the cowboy hat beside austin
Johnny Cashes wife wrote this song. 2 of the best basses in the business
