in this video i build a platform rack out of steel and talk about some of the things to consider when building a rack. Stay tuned for more videos of the LS montero and even more builds!
You should consider using alumunium, because steel will rust and stain your roof's paint. Just a matter of time... I did this in my old car. Alumunium is lighter too (and pricey).
Thanks! I am using a Vulcan migmax 215 from harbor freight. And yes, it runs off 220 and 110, but i was using it on 110 in this video. I have had the welder for almost 2 years and it has been awesome! Never failed me
@@Ptero-Tech The Vulcan welders seem to get a lot of positive feedback. Its built really nice and has autoset as well. I always use gas when I weld with it. I have never tried flux cored.
I have 89 montero 4 door 4x4. I want a roof rack and I was thinking of using electrical conduit Do you think that would be heavy enough to walk on? I think it’s 1 inch conduit. Thanks
@@evansautomotive307 I’m not sure. My nephew mig welds for fun and he said he would help with the project. I’ll check it out really good before I proceed
@@evansautomotive307 I have welded gal before and it is nauseating. Watched a vid earlier from trail benders overland and he used unistrut. think it’s called He really likes that metal because of its durability and it’s so flexible in its uses. I may use that instead of conduit
You got skills! 👏
Thanks man!
Turned out great! Looking forward to the RTT build! ♦️♦️♦️💪
Thanks!
Epic work brotha! Looks terrific! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! I think it looks pretty good as well!
It would be great if the movie had a script.❤❤❤
Nailed it. Looks awesome.
Thank you!
I was thinking to put my single bed metal frame on top of my van, just drill some holes and it should work.
That actually might work
Love this! Lol actually looking for ideas for my ls Montero
Thanks! I really like the way it turned out. Thanks for watching!
Very nice bro! You now have a new follower and gave me some great ideas for my Sequoia.
Thanks man! Sequoia's are sweet!
Aaaahhhh! An Opel GT! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Its my brothers! Needs a ton of work but it will be worth it
Nice job DIY always
Thank you!

Yeah I wouldn't mind aluminum, maybe next time. I might end up getting this powder coated to prevent the rust! Thanks for watching!
Maybe think about some plasti-dip for the bottom of the gutter mounts. 💪
I actually ended up cutting some vaccuum tube and slipping it over them! I forgot to mention that haha
What welder are you using? and is it 220? those welds are nice good job

@@evansautomotive307 damn I'm surprised It can put out welds like that, were you using gas with it in the video?

"Built it for load!" Make that your story and stick to it! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
It makes sense right?!? 😂

Hard to say if it would be strong enough. What is the wall thickness on it?
Also electrical conduit is galvanized right? Be very careful welding it. The smoke can make you really sick and even kill you in short order.

1x2inch how about the thickness?
How much did this cost you? Like a round about?
I mentioned it at the end. It was $112 including hardware and paint! Thanks for watching
How much does it weigh?
70lbs exactly when i weighed it
@@evansautomotive307 Not too bad!
@@TheRealitarian Especially for being all steel!
Focus camera very bad...
Yeah I get a little carried away talking and stuff to press the focus on the camera.
