    This one actually scared me. I was on guard duty in the Navy when I saw some spooky stuff, and we also had a number of suicides on base, so I can 100% empathize with those soldiers. True or not, the tale is terrifying.

    From 1979 to 1981 I was stationed at Giessen Depot in Giessen Germany. We lived in the old WWII barracks. Always heard rumors of flooded sub-basements, but no one would ever confirm or deny. Our tactical site where we kept our equipment was an old German airfield. During the driest time of the year, it was always muddy. We were told that during the war, the Germans would flood the airfield to hide it, and pump the water off of it at night to fly their missions.

    I was stationed in Baum holder. It was the seat of the SS during WWII. I stayed in the barracks that they did occult experiments in. One night my entire platoon heard hysterical screaming throughout the building but nobody could find the source. There was a lot of small stuff like finding swastikas and pentagrams under the floor etc.

      Looking it up, apparently one of the main things the Nazis did in Celle was transporting prisoners to concentration camps. Alternate descriptions of the basement suggest some or all of the graffiti might have ben 6 pointed stars and Jewish writing. We do have good reason to believe the Nazis at least used it for a holding area of some kind. If they used the standard approach they'd have mass cells with a dozen or more per cell. It's known there was at least one breakout from a train during the war which lead to a full-scale prisoner revolt but I don't know of any breakouts from this building. Maybe this basement was a prison where they stored people before loading them on trains to the camps?
      Also the building is currently a public office building. Seemingly the hauntings have become less severe over time? I mean it's used for regular daily business.

He would talk about rituals and the abandoning of faith in God and the devotion to the party only. Much of Nazi idealism and the so called coming race was part and parcel of their real motivation. Why didn't they simply pump the basement out ?

    I can't see the army getting navy divers to look into a building.

    • @zeonmx
      @zeonmx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Because it's simply a myth. If the army really wanted to check out what was underneath it, they would've demolished the topside of the entire building just to find out what was in the basement, just like what the Soviets did when they did search & destroy methods during the Invasion of Berlin. It simply never happened. Oh and what about the divers that went missing? The US army nor the British army would've never let any Allies soldiers body left behind. They would've scoured the place just to discover the bodies.

    • @sarabishop3740
      @sarabishop3740 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      MyLostTemple And this is where reality clashes with what cinema shows you my young friend. After years of war, it would have been utter stupidity to demolish a perfectly functional building. Whether the basement was flooded or not is left to the imagination. Had it been flooded, it had been pumped and sealed (because it actually HAS been sealed remember, why is up for debate, could be cockroaches for that matter). As for we leave no one behind BS, u aware that there is still corpses, allies and axis, still to be returned to their families, more than 70 years after the war ended. Were they disobedient and as a punishment, they decided nope not you. You, you stay behind?

    • @zeonmx
      @zeonmx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      You talk about reality and cinema yet, you seem clueless. The Allies have demolished buildings that were perfectly fine during the invasion of Germany just in case there were no Wehrmacht or SS hiding behind. The Soviets also tended to blow up half a block of perfectly fine buildings just because they felt like it or the Commissars thought those buildings could house hiding Germany soldiers when they occupied Berlin. Oh yeah, let's not forget the time when the Soviets blew up the entire roof along with a top floor of Reichstag just to remove Swastika on top of the roof, just because blowing it up was faster than dismantling it.
      And you are deluded if you think leaving behind fellow soldier corpses during the middle of battlefield is same thing as leaving two soldiers behind some random building.
      "Oh our soldiers disappeared while searching the basement of this town hall? Fuck it, they are gone let's move on and leave it to the Brits". Yeah, I call that a bullshit

      My thoughts entirely. It would be far easier & more likely to ask for engineers with pumps than request divers (who were far from common at that time) from the Navy, who were miles away in the English Channel. That part of the story doesn't add up at all.

    Considering the basement was always in use. Is currently a restaurant it makes for a good campfire story but that's all it ever was. The biggest flaw in the story for critical thinking was always the whole 'navy divers' part. No naval commander is going to send divers at the request of an army commander to explore a flooded basement and the dangers that presents instead of just telling the Army commander to pump it out.

    I am pretty astonished to find this video!
    I've read the comments below where people are saying these are just stories of a pretty recent vintage passed from man to man and not true at all. While I can't personally speak for the truthfulness I can 100% assure you the _tales_ at least are much older than the 1970's or whatever date is going around. I know this for certain because my uncle told me a story--a personal experience, not something overheard or passed on--about the big townhall in Celle when I was a teenager in 1989. He was called up in late Autumn 1944, served actively in Germany for about a week before the surrender was signed in 1945, was finally demobbed in 1946 and never kept in touch with any of his mates. Therefore he never had any _chance_ to hear or pass on any tall tales of a more recent vintage. However, until I watched this video I had absolutely no idea that anyone else had heard anything strange about Celle or that the townhall in particular had any kind of wider reputation beyond what he had told me about.

    The basement could be flooded due to a high water table eventually compromising the foundation before flooding it. No intentional flooding is needed. This happens all the time in basements and mines. It’s why they have pumps. I went on google earth, although the elevations aren’t 100% the lack of dramatic topography makes them more reliable. The pond in front is roughly at or only about a foot less than the building at ground level. If the pond is an altered natural body, it’s very probable that the groundwater just flooded the basement. If it’s flooded at all.

      Zed X-R I know what you mean about not finding anything on Google. I originally heard this story from an ex girlfirend's dad who was in the Welsh Guards in the British Army. He was stationed over in Germany in the 80s. One night we were sat in my ex girlfriend's living room talking about ghosts. He told me this story and about all the weird things he had experienced whilst in Celle. When I first heard it, I didn't really believe it even though he was a nice bloke and seemed genuine enough. Anyway, a few months later me and a few friends were at a pub and I tell them this story. My best mate, who had an uncle who served in the British Army was shocked. He asked me where I'd heard it and said that not a lot of people knew it. His uncle had told him the exact same thing a few years before about the paranormal instances and the US navy divers. So after that I did a google search on this and managed to find a discussion between ex British and German soldiers on a website call Above Top Secret. I was astonished as they mentioned the exact same things. I'll go through some of our research notes and update this comment with a link later. It's well worth a read though. Anyway, that's how I heard about this and whether it's true or not, I thought it was rather intriguing, so decided to do an episode on it :-)

    The diving part of the story is most likely untrue...i scuba dive and am certified in wreck diving. One of the most important safety measures I scuba diving is to never dive without having a partner within arm’s reach. That way, if your equipment were to malfunction you would be able to “buddy breathe” using your partner’s spare regulator. No way would experienced navy divers ever enter an enclosed space alone.

      I find it unbelievable from a procedural point of view. Branches of the military just don't loan personnel to each other like that, especially for what was a low priority job, in the closing stages of the largest war fought in history. Plus scuba gear was very new & had officially been rejected by the Navy in 1940.
      I'm sure they had some "on the side" or had a few frogmen using alternate systems to scuba, but to me the idea of being able to rustle up 3 divers at a location a fair way inland in April 1945 just to look inside some flooded rooms is preposterous.
      I'm not for one second implying the people who operate this channel made it up btw, but somebody did. Possibly to explain the sealed stairwells & strange goings on?

      @The Alright Gamer I found a forum thread detailing some of the info in this vid. I think the channel admin has also mentioned it in other comments. I only read the longer & more detailed posts. Made for very interesting reading & some of the contributors had been barracked in or nearby the Rathaus at the time in question & also had better knowledge of military history than myself.
      I saw no mention of Navy divers anywhere on the thread, just plain "divers". One guy had researched what units where in the locality & it's likely there were army engineers with bridging equipment in the area at the time. Such units often carried basic underwater breathing apparatus (presumably to investigate underwater hazards when deploying a Bailey bridge?) & had personnel trained to use it. It's much more likely that these would be the guys called in, but still... I think it's very unlikely they'd detach men on basement search detail when it was still a war zone & the equipment & men in question where vital elsewhere. If they weren't actually being used they would still be ready to deploy at a moment's notice, so for me that part of the story is still a "no".
      There were quite a few contributors who were able to give precise locations, dates, names, ranks, regiments etc & also said they had seen/ heard unexplained events, could corroborate part of what others had said, or were providing additional info to that given in previous posts.
      There were of course those who were making pretty wild claims based on second, third or fourth hand info, kinda have to discount those on the basis of not being first hand.
      From what I could gather it all seems to have started when graffiti thought to have been left by Jewish prisoners in 2 basement rooms was removed & somehow came back a few days later. This may actually be one incident that through retelling has changed into 2 similar accounts, or it may be 2 genuine very similar incidents.
      One of the basement rooms had some Yiddish words & a stars of David daubed on the walls. The room had been abandoned for some time, but for whatever reason it became needed for storage. Guys were sent in to clean up, clear out & whitewash the walls etc. A day or 2 later the Yiddish words & stars were back. Apparently they were overpainted several times only for them to reappear, at which point the room was sealed.
      Similar thing happened in another basement room involving an internal window that had words etched onto it. The window got broken & replaced. A few days later the words appeared again in the new pane. The C.O. responsible freaked, fined everyone with access to the room as he thought one of them was pranking & ordered the glass to be replaced again. Whatever these words were appeared again after a few days & the room wasn't sealed, but after a short time they decided they wouldn't use it any more. There was one contributor who said he'd been down & although you couldn't really get in there any more, you could access enough to squeeze a torch in & see this window with the spooky writing. Someone else verified his account & why he said he'd been there & someone else was able to add even more detail about the writing in the glass, names, ranks, dates & even where the first replacement pane of glass had ended up. Pretty mad stuff.
      Seems as though there were an awful lot of subterranean areas in this facility that were either locked, had metal doors that were welded up or stairwells that were concreted over. Seems to me that these tales of spooky writing & sealed areas gradually got mixed together & massively embellished over time until we're into the fantastical realms of divers in flooded rooms.
      There were a few others giving the usual "things that go bump in the night" kinda stories too, a few got solved but a lot of them swore they heard/ saw something inexplicable & no rational explanation was ever discovered.
      Seems that in the war the whole area was a processing zone for the nearby concentration camp. A lot of people went through there that never came back & it seems that there were parts of the military training ground in the nearby countryside that you only had to dig down a few inches before you literally found shards of bone & scraps of striped uniforms.
      Anyway, I found it unusual the amount of first hand accounts there were on the thread from people who had experienced small scale paranormal events themselves, were corroborating others who had, or were able to give verifiable dates, name etc. Usually it's all legends, rumours & "my uncle had a friend who's cousin knew someone who heard a story about this..."
      Sorry for such a long, meandering reply, but for a change there might actually be something in this one.
      Here's the thread if you're interested. Suddenly dies in 2016, which is a shame www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread460583/pg10

    A lot of places with a strange reputation tend to play it up a bit to attract tourists and to be famous for something, sort of like Roswell, NM being famous for an alien crash landing, or people visiting a haunted house to see ghosts. I find the lack of information to be a bit creepy, and I get the impression that the town wants this tale to be forgotten.

    the bit in the water with the bodies in the chairs was the first of these for me that went beyond delightfully spooky to become like _scary_ scary. The image that manifested in my head with my eyes closed was genuinely horrifying.
    ...and normally i think "demons" are kind of silly and juvenile, like the paranormal equivalent of "gamercore," but this scene was so surreal and disturbing and so _plausible_ in terms of the kinds of things Nazis love to get up to that this portrayal of them introduced a serious element of the unfathomable that gave me the genuine creeps.
    Don't get me wrong, I love it: my first reaction was "holy shit that's good, wow," but still yknow just like... eeeeeeeeeee...

Before beginning real investigation, I need some indices/ Evidences, that there could something like this happen, worth investing my time. Do you have access to the pics? Can you sent them to me?

    Great vid, very stylish. I recently discovered your channel & love it.
    Although I have to say on this occasion that I found the diver part of the story very difficult to believe. It would be very unusual for the Navy to transfer personnel to the Army under any circumstances, but in the closing stages of the war when resources were pushed & the US Navy only had a comparatively minor presence in the nearest waters? Scuba equipment was very new at the time & the only mention I can find of any significant use by the U.S. in the war is by O.S.S. which operated independently from other branches of service. O.S.S. certainly wouldn't have dispatched agents with new & expensive technology just to look in a cellar, so I'm gonna stick my neck out here & say that part definitely didn't happen.
    It would have been far easier to request a squad of engineers with pumps to drain the water out. Not saying the rest of the story hasn't got some truth to it, but likely the diver story was a tall tale invented to explain the strange goings on & the sealed off floors. As it goes for filling the entire void of the lower floors - no need, just cap the bottom of the stairwells & concrete them in.

    • @samm5111
      @samm5111 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Couple of missing tidbits. The divers would not have been using scuba gear as we know it today, but hard hats with umbilical tethers that supplied oxygen and power for radio contact. Also, as the story goes after doing a bit more digging, is that the water actually came from a destroyed wall in the basement that tapped into the water table, ergo you can pump as much as you want out and it will simply keep refilling.

    • @runlarryrun77
      @runlarryrun77 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@samm5111 4 years late replying, but seeing as you seemed to want to be pedantic...
      1) SCUBA rebreathing gear was around at the end of WW2. It wasn't widespread, but other self contained breathing apparatus was the norm for diving by that time. You'd have to go back another 100 years for the rig you're describing to be the norm.
      2. To fill an area the size described in this video to fill with water from groundwater seepage alone would take a long time. A long time, plus the water table would need to be as high as the ground floor. For those floors to exist a pump system would need to be in place already & used regularly. Even if there weren't existing pumps you would simply need to install pumps that removed the water at a faster rate that it was slowly seeping in. No difficult at all.
      Ergo, simple research & critical thinking destroy both of your incorrect assumptions that I'm sure you thought were little intellectual victories of some kind.
      Honestly, replies like yours are why I turned notifications off a long, long time ago. I just bump into these mindless responses like yours from time to time when I rewatch vids.
      Anyway, take care now...

    I heard a rumor that Hitler was inspired to look for a "hollow earth" super race based on a book called "Vril: Power of the Coming Race" which was written like an explorer's journal who had discovered the entrance to a subterranean civilization of super beings. It's an old book and had a sort of "War of the Worlds" effect on the people of its time who thought it was a real account of actual events. If your a sci-fi fan and want to read one of the first modern sci-fi books ever written, I would highly recommend it. You can see a lot of the tropes and plot devices that became common in most sci-fi stories used in it, maybe for the first time. It's sort of the missing link book between classical lit and science fiction.
