I understand where you are coming from, but on the flip side of the coin, Biden has been lining his pockets as well and doing bad things to the economy. And he continues to finance the Ukrainian government instead of helping the people of that country. We must look at both sides of the issue as well. I do respect your opinion. This song has a universal message about politics that transcends any era, party, or demographic. It doesn't speak about any specific politician, but the system as a whole. It's corrupt, people with power live by their own rules, people with money can tip the system to their favor, those running the show dictate and rely on the apathy and/or compliance of the people to do whatever they please.

The guitar solo for this song was all Kirk Hammett. James and Kirk harmonize on the guitars a lot as you have heard on this song as well as "Blackened". James did the first guitar solo on "Master of Puppets", the second guitar solo on "To Live is To Die" and the guitar solo for "Nothing Else Matters" from The Black Album.
There's also a 1979 movie called "...And Justice For All" which stars Al Pacino that very well could have inspired this song. In the movie, Pacino plays a lawyer who realizes that the justice system is full of corruption and favoritism.

On the tour for this album, the 1989 Damaged Justice tour, they had a statue of Doris (Lady Justice with no arms, blindfolded) on stage. During this song, they blew up the statue piece by piece. It was just pyro going off in between the sections while people pulled on ropes to shake the statue and break away each part at specific parts of the song, towards the end. It looked amazing and was probably one of the best uses of a prop I’ve ever seen. The statue was there for the entire set and then they destroy it as their last song, before doing encores. At the same time they “blow up” a lighting fixture that then swings down pretty low over their heads and swings back and forth as the lights kinda flicker and swirl.
Combine that with the insane pyro show to the war sounds at the beginning of “One”, and in my opinion it’s the best stage show they’ve ever put on. The pyro for “One” is so insane that they aren’t even allowed on the stage while it’s going, because they do “machine gun fire” up the steps and such using pyro. Even after seeing them 15+ times and meeting them in 2009, that 1989 show remains my favorite.

    MetallicA IS timeless!!!
And you still got alot of amazing lyrics, solos, and riffs. Yeah don't pay attention to the "No Bass" "Justice For Jason" crew. Jason Newsted said he is happy with the way the album sounds, and its perfect the way it is. Whether or not Jason deserves bass on that album. We have to leave it be cause it will always stay just like it is. Anyway! This album is my favorite when it comes to James Hetfield's voice, his aggressive tone, what I call the real way to spit the truth, metal style lol. Kirk's solos are some of the best also. And btw, James has a few solos, but mostly it's Kirk. James uses his playing as an instrument, like another drum, but with the chunk of the guitar. He does have the most lethal right hand in metal. That's a fact haters!!!

Heres a few, Master of Puppets, Fade to Black, Blackened, For Whom the Bell Tolls, One, Disposable Heros, Nothing Else Matters, Battery, Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Orion, To live is to Die and many many more from later albums as well. It's hard to choose, really. As far as solos, almost all but a handful are Kirk, except a few James has said meant a lot to him, so he'll play 1st solo, then Kirk will do second part solo. James has said many times that Kirk's better and that he loves riffs and harmony. He wrote all lyrics, riffs, and harmonies. You can see Howard Stern interviews or metalhead interviews. You must do the 89 live Seattle concert!! One of the best concerts of younger Metallica! But I just watched December's 2022 concert. It's just Amazing these guys at 60 yrs old are still killing it!! Kirk generally does most of the solos, James mostly plays rhythm but has a few solos, like the more melodic one in Master of Puppets. James doesn't really shred as much either, so if a solo is a bit less chaotic and has more melody to it then it's _probably_ James, but definitely not always. As far as I can tell, he generally only has like one solo per album, but is an absolutely killer rhythm guitar player.

James only played the 2nd solo in To Live is To Die on the And Justice For All album. He has only contributed a handful of solo's throughout Metallica's career. Here is the list if you are interested:
    Master of Puppets 1st solo
Orion 2nd solo (via the booklet, likely means the harmonized guitars)
To Live is To Die 2nd solo
    Nothing Else Matters end solo
My Friend of Misery harmonized solo
    The House Jack Built
    Thorn Within
Outlaw Torn ending (as well as the clean lead before Kirk's solo)
    Carpe Diem Baby
    Turn The Page
    Whiskey in the Jar
    Overkill 2nd solo
    Damage Case 2nd/end solo
Too Late Too Late 2nd solo
    Stone Dead Forever 1st, 2nd, & 3rd solo
    The Ecstasy of Gold
Suicide & Redemption 1st (non-wah) solo, whole solo on GH3 JH version
    Just A Bullet Away
Now That We're Dead lead before final chorus

I think as Metallica were getting bigger by 1987 as 'Master of Puppets' sold platinum (1 million copies), the band was looking to challenge themselves creatively going into 'And justice for all'... The loss of bassist Cliff Burton in 1986 also traumatized the 3 members, James in particular... so his lyrics on the album were just angry and violent and cynical - everything on the record was just "everything sucks"... no happy ending whatsoever. James also pushed a number of his riffs into songs and Kirk also added his riffs and harmonies, leaving Lars to sort out the arrangements and his ideas... and that left Jason Newsted (bass) w/ nothing but 1 contribution, and even his bass tracks were faded out of the mix of the album... his first w/ Metallica!
Kirk recalled them rehearsing the songs and just trying to push their limits musically without messing up. Overall, James and Lars had the biggest say over the record (w/ Cliff gone) so a LOT of the album is James Hetfield's rhythm guitar...& Lars' drums.
Kirk Hammett played ALL the lead guitar solos on 'And justice for all'... James never played any solos before the 1991 self-titled 'black' album (he played harmonies and the lead solo on 'Nothing else matters', but Kirk also did some rhythm guitars on the record).
Even the 2016 album 'Hardwired to self-destruct'... Metallica had James & Lars play most of the record... Robert Trujillo (bass) did the bass tracks and Kirk Hammett just did the guitar solos and some harmonies. Kirk said that his riffs were lost w/ his iPhone, so he couldn't contribute to that record... Normally, Kirk would come in after basic tracking and add lead solos to Metallica records... He was furious in 2003 when his solos were omitted from the 'St. Anger' record and nearly quit after Jason in 2004, but was somehow convinced to stay.

On the first five albums ALL of the Rythym guitar is James. All the leads and solos are Kirk. Basically the vast majority of the studio guitar work is James. Live is a diffrent story.
James has a few solos and leads. In Master of puppets mid section him and kirk Dual the lead, but the solo in that part is James. The spastic one where it goes back into thrash is Kirk
In Orion James did the first actual guitar solo. The rest is cliff and kirk
In Nothing else matters, I'm pretty sure the whole song was recorded by James, I could be wrong on that, but that's definitely his solo.
I may be missing one or two, but Basically on the first five records, that's the long and short of it, lol.

This is another great song that reminds me why they were in the Big Four. It's far more than just record sales, as revisionists try to argue. No other band at the time, thrash or otherwise, was making music quite like this. Nearly ten minutes long, yet not one wasted second.

Kirk is lead guitar and does most solos. James is rhythm guitar. Outside of the solo it can be difficult sometimes to tell who does what however. At least for me. Except when watching a live performance of, say, Fade to Black when James is carrying two guitars - one metal and one acoustic. You can see when James switches back and forth on Fade to Black and can then tell what parts he plays.

Kirk: Solid lead licks, solos played high on the fretboard and general wankery with the pedal.

I don't he is overrated enough as is, they both have their respective roles and only one gets dickrided despite ruining their musical direction in the 90's to have less solos or experimental elements and more Mainstream bullshit.
