Nailed it!!!!!! Been bitchin' 'bout this very point for a few years. Even turning off reliable old radio stations cuz they started playing crap. Thomas Rhett? First few songs sounded too close to Michael Jackson later stuff. Beyonce? Country-ish words don't change the Beyonce beat and sound. Shippoosy? Not even close to a country song. Radio? You listening? Play country music, NOT dance club tunes. We listen to country in our trucks, jeeps and tractors, (Hiway and farm,) and dancing while driving is impossible, or at least dangerous, and ugly. Country music is a story, not a wish list or a retort to your significant other. It's a sad tale, it's an uplifting experience, a sorrowful apology or the most heartfelt of love songs. You can play country songs while fishing. In the dark. While thinking how much you're gonna miss her. Talking to your friends in low places, about going to Amarillo in the morning. About hearing a fiddle playing in Texas, or how angels walk among us. Sorry, got carried away listening to my playlist. MGK? Listen the Garth Brooks Much Too Young, Dolly's Coat of Many Colors or Eagle When She Flies. Someone once said, you'll never know where you're going, if you don't know where you came from.

There is no such thing as true country anymore. Not since the late 90's. Since then it has gone down hill. I have digitized al my LP's, Cassettes, CD's, and DVD's. When I want to listen to whatever genre I'm in the mood for I go to my NAS. Sometimes I'll put the player on random and get a bit of everything. I have not turned on a radio in close to 10 years and even then it was satellite radio so I could listen to good music.

My take on all these rappers and pop artists coming over to invade our avenue in music is just greed of money. People such as Beyoncé, Jellyroll, MGK, Dasha and Shaboozy come over to country and cut a 'bubble gum' song or duet with an existing artist to try to gain some country fans. Face it people who call themselves country fans because they listen to 'bubble gum' or 'Nasville pop' country. That's kinda as dumb as saying I am a coffee lover cos I go to Starbucks every day for my Caramel Macchiato. I guess it was Nelly who dueted with Tim McGraw in 2004, was the first one to test the waters. Record companies took noticed there was a portion of country fans (as forementioned) who would buy this crap thus creating an additional stream of revenue. I wish more radio station program managers would ban these so called artists songs from even being played. That is why I turned to Texas and Red Dirt Music, along with independents. That's some country like when country music was country. Names like Aaron Watson, Casey Donahew, Ryder Grimes, Ella Langley , Charly Reynolds, Sunny Sweeney and Holly Tucker are keeping real country alive. I bet there are some here that have no idea who these people are. Thanks Kevin for the show

I think MGK wouldn't know a country song even if hit him in the keister. How in the he 🏒🏒 did he win!?!?!?Beyonce so called country album? More curse words than anything else. And it's not racism that she didn't (thank goodness) get a nomination. Two Words: Chapel Hart, who should be promoted by County stations.Real country right there and check out their songs ❤❤❤❤❤And Darius Rucker actually sings country, got a vote from Loretta Lynn as country singer (miss her 💔) And fellow country fans, it's OUR own fault that country music is going thru this.WE need to tell & show the stations& industry by telling them what we want by buying & supporting the real artists.

Must add this: I remember a young man named Mo Pitney from Country Family Reunion that was so good.Since Philadelphia Pa isn't a big country market,is he still performing? And I haven't heard anything about Gary Allan 😢

So much to unpack in this video. I agree with a lot of what you said, but I also disagreee. To a degree. Lol! Old school country is long gone, in my opinion. It stopped being country easily two decades ago. That said, people with a country vibe, despite tattoos or bad habits (let's be real - the country greats are not immune to bad habits: George, Johnny, etc.), can meld in. I don't want to hear hard rap music or crazy lyrics, but if someone has the spirit, I allow them. Somewhere on TH-cam there is/was a video of Kid Rock rolling up into Tootsie's in Nashville. My mother and I had just come back from there and she was pretty hardcore that no "punk rapper" could sing country. Dude took the house down. Kane Brown is another one that looks like he's not country and though he has a modern sound, it ain't nothing but close to country. And yes - pure rock and roll is dead and gone. I think we need to accept that they'll never be another "Redheaded Stranger, Man in Black or Folsom Prison Blues". Nobody will fill their shoes. Damn, I talk a lot. :)

Yep, I just wish that they would make a better effort of at least trying to remember the legends of country that gave them the opportunity to attempt a country career. And one of the results of losing the Rock and some cases the Pop genre is having some attempt to bring it into country. There has always been folks coming into country that were criticized for their sound. But we just need to be careful not to lose what made country music great and what has sustained it has a unique genre. If we lose that all we are doing is just re-flavoring pop and rock music. I do agree with Kane Brown. He is great and he has sung some great country songs, as has Darius Rucker.
