Not fair. I was hoping to disagree with you. I however concur with most of what you said. I've seen the fetish like worship of minorities. I am a black man. I've always felt uncomfortable with whites who want to hear my victim story. It's hard to describe, but it's almost as if I could do no wrong. My own community expects results from me by way of contrast. I've trained fighters. The last thing I want the individual is the victim self perception. The victim always gets destroyed in a fight. Yes, life is a fight. Keep up the good work.
I feel like noone really gets the theories underlying what the right like to dismissively call 'woke'. If they did, it would be a fun and satisfying conversation. But there's so much misinformation. Maybe it started out purposeful and now everyone's confused, mixing up their ideological approaches, so people spread misinformation without malice, because they hear little else
Oh my God, I may sound annoying every time I comment on here, so I beg your pardon for it if it's obnoxious, but I love debating. As a gay lad, I'm not very fond of wokeism. In my opinion, it's just as damaging as hyper-conservatism. Now now, I don't know what your political leanings may be and it's none of my problem, but wokeism is just what you described for the most part. It's like a desire to replace the centre with those who resided at the periphery and it's so bloody bad. Captain Marvel was not as bad as I thought, but these types of films seem to ignore the work of previous women who actually had to put in the hard work in order to be listened and even observed in a positive light. As you say, it is self-agrandising. Like Brie Larson's attitude whenever she gave an interview, as if she were a messiah come again to save the world when she looked like a clown. It's particularly bad because it deprives the individual the ability to learn and it makes them reside in a fantasy world where they're on the right side of history. Honestly, anyone can do this. Conservative folks I've seen are also very prone to applying the same strategy, painting themselves as the goodies and projecting their own flaws onto anyone they deem different, trying to uphold an empty fantasy. But that's the problem and I seem to recall this has always been the issue, in a polarised society, nobody wins. Anyways, I love your videos. We may not agree on certain things (I do consider trans people are real and beyond just a psychological issue), but I always make sure to respect others' opinions and whatnot. The fact I'm gay does make me feel nervous, since I wouldn't want to be called out just because I share a sexual orientation with many of these SJW dudes and dudettes, but I mean... either you're labelled a mischievous fiend by the far right or a model minority messiah by the far left. I cannot seem to be able to catch a break, hehehe.
Unfortunately, you can get called out for virtually anything today, so you may as well say what you think. We all may differ in our beliefs, but that's exactly why an open dialogue is required, and always will be: Even Osiris fell victim to his own order, and so we all are sometimes in danger of getting blinded by our own beliefs. That's the price we pay for stability. With that said, it's not going very well. The political schism is only getting larger, and it's exactly because we fight about who's right, not what's right. And so, as the word plunges into chaos, we desperately seek something to get hold of. The effect is that the rigid turns even more rigid and the loose even more loose. Times are, indeed, tricky. From my experience, conservatives are in general at least more educated about the fundamental values that hold the society together. But, to be fair, the spectrum has shifted so significantly that even what used to be the left is now considered the right (classical liberalism, for example). Also, I never said I think that transsexualism is always pathological; if the person truly can lead a psychologically healthy life, I wouldn't be concerned. What worries me is that the problem is that it doesn't seem to be the case for a great many people, and it's being downplayed or, even worse, treated incorrectly. This costs many lives that could have been improved otherwise. Therefore, before dismissing therapy, psychological assessment is a must. Especially now, when the positivity movement teaches people to simply accept their problems instead of seeking a solution.
@@FictionPsychology Wow. I saw your vid on Euphoria and thought you might be likeminded w me but then doubted it as i then realized you're a psychologist. I'm a doctoral student about to become a psychologist and the overwhelming majority of people I have come across in our field are woke to a frightening degree. so happy to read this post and to hear from someone sensible wthin the psychology field ❤
Another great video. You kinda put your neck out there on this one and that's commendable. Would you be interested in doing a dive on current body positivity movement? I like to call it "bositivity" I'm just blown away at how - during a pandemic with a virus that effects the respiratory system - we are still trying to tell people they don't need to take their weight health seriously. We should absolutely love people for who they are, no question about that. I was just really hoping the Rona would encourage people to maybe reevaluate the modern bositivity movement, but so far that doesn't seem to be the case. Thanks again for the great videos
Thanks for the feedback and the suggestion! And yes, the positivity movement in general is treading on thin ice with its recommendations. Unfortunately, the fact remains that acceptance is not enough for change; recognition of what's wrong and responsibility for what one chooses to or chooses not to do should be embraced instead. And, as a bonus, governmental bodies in charge of health recommendations are too tightly connected with pharmaceutical and other, such as sugar production companies, for one to be able to safely listen to. I will try to address it in depth in the future.
