NASCAR is a deep sport with many difficult aspects that challenge engineer, strategist, and driver. Good luck to anyone who thinks they could run a NASCAR race without serious mastery of the art.
That may be...but those less knowledgeable in the sport hear 'restrictor plate' and think of your typical super-speedway 'Daytona/Talladega' racing. Makes sense to explain the original mechanic design. Sure, the concept remains, it's just different tech. ;)
Neat video. I'm definitely a gear-head who isn't a NASCAR fan, but admittedly there's some ignorance involved in that. I'd love to see more videos with Doug trying to figure it out because I think it'll help end the snobbery of the car people who think it's not really racing or whatever.
half of these questions don't pertain to nascar and the other half are the dumbest nascar questions. "Why do you have stickers that look like headlights?" What kind of question is that? Obviously the cars are all identical but they want to tie in with the sponsor's brand, so they make it look like a ford fusion. I thought there would be some kind of discussion about strategy or something of substance at least. I have no interest in Nascar but i thought a driver trying to explain how it's different from other forms of racing or how he has a strategy to win vs others could make nascar more interesting to watch. I guess i'll have to leave Jalopnik and go find some smart breakdown of the topic, now that I'm interested. Good job getting drivers together and talking about their insurance plans. I got more information from the dumb ass nascar fan at work that tried to convince me to watch nascar even though he doesn't understand anything in nascar besides the drinking.
laughapnea It's pretty obvious that these are outtakes from the "upcoming" (at this point released) episode and they thought it'd be fun to share. This isn't a full on episode with the intent to tell people what NASCAR is - it's outtakes with Doug talking to NASCAR drivers.

Different skills than F1, Indy, or whatever other motorsport? Yes. Absolutely. Different doesn't necessarily mean 'less' though! :P
