Great review as I own an original 05 1050 and that puts a smile on my face every time I ride it . The rs must be awesome, I know if I test drive one I’d have to have one and that means only one thing, Divorce 👍

I loved my test ride on the Speed last year. Brutal power and you can be lazy with gears too. I decided to go with an Adventure bike in the end. Traded in my 765 RS after getting sick of the poor roads in the UK.

You didn't once mention the fully adjustable Ohlins suspension!!!! I think the Brembo brakes are M50 mono blocs but need to check on the Triumph website. I was fortunate enough to have a full days road test of one of these last autumn. It was a fine warm dry day and boy I loved this bike. I forgot the slightly odd look of the bugged eyed headlights as the sound track of the engine is a gem. It sounds absolutely awesome. As you say totally addictive. It spins up so fast almost as quickly as it's younger brother the 765 Street Triple RS but not so frantic, a lot more torque low down grunt. It's so smooth compared to the older 1050 engine which I have in my Sprint ST. There is however not so much burble and splutter on the over run when you close the throttle probably due to much improved fuelling. Also the riding modes cover just about every riding condition and the race mode iirc is fully customisable. The TFT is very user friendly and intuitive. Wondering if Triumph are now including the quick shifter as standard which they weren't doing last year or this dealer has just had one fitted to the demo bike as everyone will want one. This is a truly an awesome bike. You really needed to have ridden this on a dry summer's day. See also 44teeth's review of this bike on track. They loved it. Thanks for posting.

I ve just checked the specs, its brembo m4.34 s on the speed triple and m50 s on the street triple ,i was amazed at the power on the speed triples brakes ,the dealer said I should try the street triples m50s as they are even better :)

I rode that very bike from three cross just after launch last year. They fitted the quick shifter, you're correct it wasn't standard. I am not sure if they are standard fit now but they should be for the money especially as it is standard on the Street RS but up shift only.

Excellent review Mark. I bought a new standard S model a couple of month ago; the deal was too good to miss. Apart from a carbon, cans and Olin’s etc. and a few kilos less the bikes are exactly the same and more than enough for me. It’s too soon to provide any real feedback but I love it up to now....can’t wait for spring!

Hi have had this bike for 5 months now, changed from the MT09, Love the triples. The quick shifter isn’t standard haggled for that in the price and heated grips not standard but all good, it’s awesome in the twisties she just wants to lean in with no effort, I loved the MT09 for its rawness but this is another level, keyless is okay but a pain when refuelling. There’s a handy USB port under the rear seat. It’s not faster than the standard one just 5kg lighter with the twin arrows and carbon. It also has the extra riding mode, and the keyless. The dash has heaps of different display settings to play with. And I love the self cancelling indicators . Some don’t like the look but if we were all of the same opinion life would be boring and dull, also I don’t spend all my time looking at it have 12 mostly great weather months to ride it.😝

Hi Mark another nice review. I really like the sound Triumph triples make, which is truly infectious. As you said when you were comparing it to the MT10, the Triumph has that beautiful exhaust note when you wind it up unlike that cross planed crank engine of the MT10 which just sounds wrong/off beat due to its unusual firing order. I know some folk like the sound of the MT10 but unfortunately I dont. I have exactly the same feeling when listening to a Subaru Impreza, a really fast car but sounds like its got a plug lead is off one of the cylinders lol. Keep the reviews coming really enjoy them.

I bought a brand new out going 2017 speed triple S in black - so not quite the same but its not that different at all.
Dont have the quick shifter , Auto blipper, cruise control or TFT. But I’m not really finding myself wanting any of those things either. The only things i want are the double underslung carbon fiber SC project exhaust, belly pan and tail tidy.
The seat is ok , about an hour and a half your ass will tell you its time to go home. So touring would suck. But I’m 6’ at 220 American pounds. I would recommend this bike very highly, i will probably never get rid of it. Would i trade it in for a new one? Nahh. But I’d buy the new one over mine if I didn’t already own one. It’s very reliable. I honestly cant say anything bad about it. If you ride it for the purpose its made then its flawless.

I just bought a leftover '19 S and after one day of breakin riding I am very pleased. My iron butt makes the seat seem fine after more than a year on a '19 MT09 that has one of the great engines available today but a pretty chitty seat.

@@applecorp, when I ride the Street Triple R and Tiger 800 XRT back to back on narrow winding mountain roads around my house in Japan, I swear the Tiger 800 has better balance and faster turning. Add the comforts of built-in heated grips, heated seat, wind protection, cruise control for the expressway, back lit control buttons, simpler high beam, luggage space, and hazard blinkers, the XRT is many times more enjoyable on short commutes and multi day touring. I thought maybe the novelty of the new bike jaded my comparison of the 2014 Str Tri R and the 2018 800XRT, but I've had friends, both Japanese and European, ride my bikes back to back. So far 100% are sold on the 800XRT.
Side note, I decided on the 800 instead of the 1200 because I'm too short to flat foot the 1200 and the public road from my house is gravel with incline and horizontally slanted stop to turn onto the nearest paved road. I knew I'd drop the 1200.

@@kennethhammond6683 The Triumph 900 Thunderbird Sport, quite simply the most fun I ever had on two wheels!! I planned to keep mine untill my retirement, sadly circumstances did not allow. Does yours have the three into two upturned exhausts? The purr when idling, to the roar when going up through the gears, was sublime!! Mine even turned heads at 30mph through town. If there is one bike Triumph should RETRO, that's it!! They can keep their Bonneville's, Thruxtons, T120's etc they hark back to earlier times, but the Thunderbird Sport did that and then some, bringing you forward into the 70's, then bang up to date ( 1996) with wishbone swinging arm, and mono shock rear suspension, plus a plush comfy seat for both rider and pillion. Sure, buy a Street triple, but never sell the Thunderbird Sport, unless of coarse you sell it to me!!

You might not have noticed but the Tiger 1050 and this bike are totally different types of bike. They might share the same size 1050cc engine but that's about it. The 1050 engine in this Speed Triple RS is far better as the Tiger 1050 is now discontinued as it is now available as 800 and 1200cc, so yours would be the older 115bhp 1050cc variant which is like night and day compared to this much more powerful newer engine. It spins up so much more quickly and is so much smoother than the older variants. I suggest you go and ride one before posting comments here.
