Just changed my Dell M3800 battery, the old one was swelling and it pushed my trackpad out. I really bothered me and I was worried it might leak and damage something on the board. Thanks again for this video.
Thanks for making this video. My touchpad is rising up and seems it is the dreaded battery fail issue that many are having. Need to source a battery and replace.
Since I suspect most people watching this are end users you should point out the fact that opening the case will void the warranty. I wish I had done more research before buying my XPS 15 9550. I bought the most expensive model because of the fast processor, the 4K screen and Thunderbolt 3 port. The thunderbolt 3 port does not work properly. It is very intermittent. I bought a Dell Docking Station. Halt the time the system doesn't recognize it at all. When it does, it you attach a monitor it will go black for long periods of time. Even connecting the monitor using the HDMI port, there are still short periods when the screen will go black. If you travel you want to be able to use a spare battery for long flights, which you can't do because you have to open the case as shown here. I thought I had solved that problem when I saw the airline had a plug. However, the power pack (at least for the XPS 15 9550) uses 130 Watts which is way too much for most Airlines, so it doesn't work. It also doesn't have an Ethernet port. You have to use a USB hub with one. There is an Ethernet port on the Docking Station but the system doesn't see it most of the time. This laptop is not ready for prime time. That's what I get for being an early adopter I guess but I expected more from Dell.
I changed the battery and then charged the laptop after 100 % charge I tried to use it on battery the laptop worked fine for 10 min and suddenly shut down. When I connected power it started and still shows battery fully charged. Don't know whether battery faulty or loose connection
Hi Daniel, I was having some issues replacing my battery for the same model. When I try to plug in the power of the new battery, (which you did at 6:20), the plug doesnt go all the way into my laptop and forcing it doesnt work either. I have the correct model of battery for my laptop, (its identical to my current battery), but it wont plug in. I have put in my old battery again and using it for now but it would be great if you could help me as to why my new battery is not plugging in properly. Thanks!
Thank you for the comment. It sounds like the new battery is defective, because the old battery plugs in and works, albeit the old battery does not hold a charge very well .
I hope you are able to reply, I recently purchased a dell xps 15 9550 4k touchscreen edition, i noticed I got the 4 cell battery, i dont think mine comes with a hardrive since I have the SSD version, do you know if there is a way to upgrade my battery to a bigger size? or am I stuck with this one? please help me out
where can i find 97 whr battery for xps 15 9650 (7th gen). My xps has 56 whr battery (and 32 gb ssd + 1 tb HDD). I would like to replace 32gb ssd+1tb HDD with 512 gb SSD and replace 56 whr battery with 97 whr battery.
Thank you for your comment. I found a 90 whr battery at e-bay: www.ebay.com/itm/Original-9Cell-90Wh-11-1V-Battery-for-DELL-XPS14-15-17L401x-L501x-L502x-IN-USA-/181809517126?hash=item2a54b11246:g:UFIAAOSwV0RXvAQ- I have used both Newegg and ebay to find the upgraded SSD.
I have replaced 32gb ssd+1tb hdd with Crucial 525 gb ssd. But I have not found 97 whr battery.. still using 56 whr battery. If you know where to find 97 whr battery for XPS 15 9650, plz do let me know.
Biswa Balla hi did you find the 97wh battery? My xps should arrive next week and i still dont know if the 56wh and 97wh has the same size, if not then i dont think i would be possibile to update the battery to 97wh
I believe I was using a standard laptop repair kit for that video. Like the one shown here: www.amazon.com/Precision-Screwdriver-Magnetic-GangZhiBao-Computer/dp/B077D7WMZV/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=laptop+repair+screwdriver+kit&qid=1566707857&s=gateway&sr=8-6
Nice Video... but, I spent over an hour on the phone yesterday morning talking with 5 different people at Dell both business and consumer departments and Dell does not have any 97 0r 84 watt batteries and they have no idea when they will get it back in stock. I looked on Amazon and it says it is "Discontinued". When I finally decided to talk with Tech Support they told me they do not sell the battery for the XP15 separately and that you have to send the unit back for replacement... problem is right now, they have No Batteries to do warranty with so you laptop will just sit there. My guess is that on both the 9550 and 9560 heat problems they will discontinue the higher wattage battery and offer a much lower (less heat) battery as a replacement... problem with that is the lower wattage battery means shorter life off the cord... What good is a laptop with a 1 hour portable life. If anyone doubts this.. Get on the phone to Dell Sales ask them what the PN and the cost of a replacement is... they say they don't have that to contact tech support.. but then try to talk to Tech Support and get an answer.. If you do.. post the info here because I've about had it trying to talk to Dell. I asked to speak with a Supervisor nd the would not connect me to one... Even if you have already bought a XPs15 with the 84 or 97 watt battery give them a call with your service tag and see what they say... Once the factory battery is dead... so is the Xps 15! That's an expensive gamble!
After receiving your reply... I decided to read thru the links below on the Dell Community Wow... it seems like it is the battery is swelling, could be because of the over heat issues I've read about.. This explains why I had to speak to 5 people at Dell and still not get an answer... Like I said, With out a Battery you might as well buy a desktop because what is what you will end up with!
Whenever the case is opened on a laptop, the warranty is normally over. I have seen where people have been able to open the case without leaving any marks. That said, if the laptop in question is still under warranty? then why are we changing the battery, that would be one item covered by the warranty and the OEM should change it for us. The laptop in the video was already out of warranty so, opening up the case and installing a new battery did not an issue. Thank you for the question.
@@selmateacher7 because the XPS 15 with no Nvidiagraphics card comes with the smaller battery. I want the bigger battery, but the graphics card will do more harm than good for what I need. I actually wouldn't mind to pay the full price of the XPS with the Nvidia graphics card, and get a computer without but with the larger battery. I asked this to dell and they do not allow this.
@@selmateacher7 hi, I spoke with dell regarding upgrades on their precision 5530 line. Very similar to the XPS, and you can open it to change ram without any loosing warranty. Not sure if that is something exclusive to that line not computers
