“She was sleeping, and he didn’t want to wake her”… when I was a kid, I loved when my dad carried me from the car to my bed, took off my shoes, and tucked me in. I would pretend I was asleep sometimes so that he would do so. This is just heartbreaking

    • @allys744
      @allys744 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1225

My dad did that with me too. If I fell asleep downstairs or in my parents room, someone would take me back to my room. Sometimes, I’d also notice someone carrying me and pretend to sleep so as not to spook them. In any case, for this father, that’s no an excuse.

That was the best as a kid felt like teleporting. I’d sleep in the car and wake in my bed it’s so cool.

    •  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +123

I could never leave my kid in a hot car while said kid is asleep. That's just common fucking sense: get the kid out of the car seat, carry the kid to the kid's bedroom, close the door - you can still do whatever the fuck you want once you brought your child to bed. Even if I were drunk, I would always make sure my child is safe. This dude clearly wanted to kill his kid.

So this guy didn't even meet his firstborn daughter until she was 5, somehow he got custody of her, almost killed her multiple times by leaving her in the car for 5 hours multiple times and by not feeding her as a type 1 diabetic, and eventually made her try to kill herself at 13 years old.
And for some reason he still had even younger children in his custody. Can the system stop failing for even a few days at a time?

When I was a BRAND new parent, my wife and I went out to petco, walked through the doors, looked at like 2 animals in glass (like 30 seconds if that) and then I remembered that we had forgotten our daughter in the back seat. It was the single most embarrassing moment of my life even though nobody ‘knew’. We went outside (obviously) and straight home. By the way she’s 6 now and IVE NEVER forgotten my child in the car since. I understand that not everybody is perfect but I really don’t see a reality, especially for me, where my child DIES in the back of a vehicle because I ‘Forgot’ about them in the back seat. Ridiculous.

According to Stanford research, and using a calculator based on it, we got this:
The 2 year old was in the car from at least 12:53 to 4:15, so to round this up, we'll make it exactly 3 hours and 30 minutes.
The car is also reported to be in direct sunlight, which is perfect (in the worst way) because the research was based on direct sunlight hitting the vehicle, not just some or in the shade.
The temperature outside is 109°F at the time of the 911 call being placed, and based on that and the 210 minutes elapsed, you get an interior air temperature, of approximately 157°F.
Not 200, sure, but 160°F is considered the recommended internal temperature for lamb, pork or beef, while 165° is the recommended internal temperature for poultry to be deemed safe to consume, so... yes, he literally cooked the girl. Medium, based on the USDA page.
All this to say: agreed, disgustingly inhuman to do this. We still have issues from child abuse and we used to have nightmares about the The Visit trailer where the girl was shoved in the oven. We cannot imagine, despite everything we've seen and been through, being actually put in that temperature and cooked to death.
It's appalling to the point that we want to revive the bronze bull torture method just for this sploosh donor.

But there are many cases where a parent genuinely has forgotten, usually because the society we live in isn’t very helpful for parents (especially of young children) and there’s been cases where someone is worked to the edge that they forget to even feed themselves and eventually to the point they forget children in cars.
Not saying all that to say people shouldn’t face consequences, but that these things do happen and it’s not always stupidity that’s the cause. It’s actually an extremely sad thing that we as a society should be doing more to prevent it from happening, more than just charging people.

Exactly. People undermine the selfishness of this and undermine the damage these people do, in the overall equation. They're the support system for the abuser, the abuser is just the figure head. All dysfunctional families have this setup, these are usually the people who get something out of it, no matter how vague, but they're too cowwrdly to go through with it so they're content with with the crumbs the abuser drops.
Is it the vain picture perfect family? Is it financial luxury? no body can really tell with enablers, they usually seem nice or like innocent victims of the whole situation, but in truth they are gnarly ravenous unfeeling scavangers indifferent to those who suffer on their watch. If push comes to shove and the ball is on their court. At best they'll do NOTHInG and at worst they will attack their weakest member. They are self perserving parrasites. The point is, they make it harder for the situation to be resolved. For genuine victims to escape.
They might not be malignant, but even knowing you functioning as the scapegoat to ward the abuser off their backs is good enough to keep the charade going. People think motive is dependent on maliceas necessary component to inact evil. History would tell you otherwise. To the pits with these cultist wolves.
