Most of JHB central is occupied that would mean relocating people somewhere else, which is not available. Also the aim is to break apartheid segregation by breaking boundaries that currently exist in SA. Having a proudly after apartheid mega city is a lot of dignity for anti-apartheid people as well

They keep on developing the cities and forgetting about building new power stations to accommodate all from lower, middle and higher income class. They also turn the blind eyes on building more of dams to store water. This will attract more and more investors because they are running away because of shortage of water and electricity.
I'm all for development, I'm not so much of a fan of the smart aspect of it. Some of it may go, but some are just too much of an invasion of privacy. One thing I notice of all of these development projects, non actually take into account the electricity needs that would result from these developments. Not one of these projects includes the building of power stations, and as we know, the existing power stations aren't even capable of suppling the current demands. These city megaprojects are also for the well-off. It does not seek to develop or improve the lives of those who are poor.
@@el-louise1886 Where in and around Venda Giyane again...what about areas inhabited by the majority Bapedi people...every development is concentrated in the Venda Giyane areas though Bapedi makes 75% population in Limpopo...how fair is this...is Mogalakwena/Matlala part of Limpopo to be more specific...do we also pay TAXES in this country...why we dont deserve to enjoy tarred roads running water like Venda people..sad part of it is that the 1st two Premiers (Ramahlodi and Sello Moloto) of Limpopo comes from Bakenberg region but dololo development fokol..

Problem though is if the projections for 2030 estimate that three quarters of all South African's will be living in cities, what happens to people who are poor (mostly uneconomically active)? What happens to the aged? What happens to supply of housing, electricity [which we already cannot cope with]? Renewable Energy? Yep Smart Cities are the way to go. Excellent concept! From RDP to SMart City? Subsidized Housing?

Even if the financing for this project goes through, EFF (ruling party in Gauteng province) is just going to eat that to fund their future civil wars. Why government cannot build 20 stairs buildings in valuable spaces inside the City and relocate those people? The last stats released in 2016 showed that 82.4% of Western Cape residents lived in formal housing, 16.6 in informal of which (29.6%) was government housing, 4.9% in Traditional Housing and the remaining 0.5% was unspecified. Overall, 23.1% of South Africans living in informal dwellings, lived in a form of a government housing complex.
