Renegade Cut in 2022: “All cops are bastards and here’s why” Renegade Cut in 2024: “The world is ending soon so let’s just play some weird games” Right there with you, Leon.
I've been making audio-visual "content" since 2010, moved to TH-cam in 2014, and the exhaustion of most of that time doing serious political videos caught up to me. I can't change the world, so I may as well make it a tiny bit more fun for myself and others. Glad you're liking it.
I mean, on a grandiose scale, it's tough for any one person to change the world, but I've found your earlier to be helpful, and a good point to start my own research into political matters (i.e. cops being bastards). But I also understand that being entrenched in nothing but political content can just wear on a person after a while, given how depressing most of the topics relating to it are. In either case, I enjoy your videos, and it's nice hearing your takes on games, being a huge gaymer myself. :)
@@renegadecut9875I was trying to do the same, as my health, and therefore professional life, were in decline I tried to not think about it, just play games and watch fun video game videos, and then IGN bought eurogamer, nowhere am I safe from capitalism.
In native tongue, Pavol actually speaks in šariština as compared to old english, which is a dialect from Šaris county (you can hear him say early in-game that's where he comes from) and this dialect is famous for being nigh incomprehensible compared to the official language. It's a lot more akin to country bumpkin energy compared to the one used in English release but if the goal was to be "barely comprehensible" I think the localization nailed it
Oh, sorry. I thought you were saying "I love watching you cover games as a gamedev" and not "As a gamedev, I love watching you cover games" Reminds me of that line from Clue. Anyway, carry on, carry on.
A new Renegade Cut video dropping sooner than I expected that I can watch while I cook breakfast before I head to the Pride parade is the finishing touch I needed on this day.
Loved this game, what a suprise to see this in my notifications. Felvidek and Slay the Princess have been my most enjoyable play experiences this year.
I shall assure you, in Germany every City has a Bürgermeister (Mayor) and yes, we do make Burger puns about it Bürgermeister of Hamburg is a classic on every playground :D
I once was called upon to become the Burger Master, they said it was my duty, my fate! Alas, my heart was on the art of the pizza, and this is a path I shall never abandon!
for the record, "nothing is a cutscene" came first, before quicktime events, in half life. and did a better job with making it feel like you were writing the story than almost anything, since stuff happened in reaction to you. That said, I agree that if cutscenes are going to be used, they should look different - at least in perspective.
I have a great appreciation for those who have very different game preferences. There are so many games I'll never see because they are outside my play interest. So I when I get to hear about these games, I get to experience some of the joy it holds. (The series of burger king jokes killed me) Love the old content, love the new content btw.
Agreed. I absolutely adored Felvidek. Cozy vibes on maximum and honestly funny. Like i dont really laugh when i play games but Felvidek constantly had me smiling and laughing out loud.
To your point about Zurvanism, I think that's what Melville was evoking for Fedallah/Ahab's religion in Moby Dick - an occulted form of Zoroastrianism (or, at least, that's how I read it).
Ah yes my favorite non political vibes only based entertaining youtuber person has uploading some more fire videos (Seriously ive been loving these new videos I hope you and your mental health are doing well)
I learned the Burgomaster term from D&D, as they use the term in the Curse of Strahd adventure. It doesn’t get defined there, but given which NPCs have the title and what their job/responsibilities are, the context is easy to put together. Still took a few weeks of game sessions for it to stop being funny.
I love seeing every new video. It feels like coming yo a coffee bar every day and hearing the barista talking someone's ear off about their current hyper focus.
I'll be honest, missed a few of your past videos. I feel bad, you're a great creator and have consistently gotten even better over the years. Saved to Watch Later, hopefully this drives a little engagement in the meantime. Keep fighting the good fight sir.
Same here. Sometimes a game gives me exactly what I wanted, and sometimes a game gives me something I didn't even know I needed. Impossibly, Felvidek is both.
This video feel like it was made for me. It is about my favorite game of the year (and yes in Slovak it is even more hilarious) then Blood omen is mentioned and long long man commercial
Fun extension of lesson on Hussites: They led a very long civil war in Lands of the Bohemian crown which resulted in decades of interregnum because no one was really able to enforce their right to the throne (neither hussite supported candidate, Sigismund Korybut or Emperor Sigismund). Throughout their history, Hussites were very fractured and most of the radicals who were defeated then became mercenaries abroad, and in case of Upper Hungary (Slovakia), they basically permanently moved there instead of just raiding, but were eventually pushed out. They were called "Bratříci" (meaning little brothers or something like that). This is very oversimplified, but all that I remember from top of my head. If you like long, chaotic conflicts, read something on Hussite wars. Regarding burgermeister: In royal cities (meaning free cities subordinated only to the king), there were two main authorities: elected Burgermeister (Purkmistr) and appointed Reeve (rychtář). Reeve basically served as a royal executive in the city, but throughout medieval era, their significance lowered, and certain cities even bought out the reeve office. This changed around 17th century, when Habsburgs started to centralize power and build absolutism. At this point, appointed officials again gained power and city councils with Burgermeisters were severely limited. This of course applies only to the Lands of the Bohemian crown, I don't really know how it was in Hungary or elsewhere.
A correction. The Hussites were not Protestants. Protestantism and the Reformation appeared a century or so after the Hussites. The Hussites are part of the different religious movements that happened in the Late Middle Ages, in part caused by the Western Schism of the Catholic Church into multiple papacies (Jan Hus was executed in the same Council where the Western Schism ended). That said. These religious movements and the Hussittes can be seen as the predecessors to Protestantism and the Reformation. Something that the Protestants themselves saw, making Jan Hus an icon of their movement.
And you know that th game will get some sort of sales bump because of this video. I have bought more games after a heartfelt recommendation like this one than I buy after seeing any kind of ad.
Sure, but CG and anime cutscenes are often handled by different people and even different production houses, and they can be made at the same time as the programming is being done, not after.
I appreciate your confrontation with realism's homogenization of gaming. When I see all these paranoid conspiracies about DEI stealing all the hot women from gaming, I am sure it is actually realism taking away the fantasy of gaming ads and boxes, as for kids picking up EGM Joanna Dark was a lot hotter than in the actual game.
This game sounds like a couple guys getting together to try their best to make a monty pythons holy grail style game and getting about halfway there, before going in another direction in that classic "writing something supposed to be dumb when you suddenly realize you might actually be on to something here" way.
Your comparison is apt. The humour and the anachronisms are very much in the vein of that classic film. As much as 15th century events affect the setting of the game, don't take it as a serious look at the period (all the more that it's also going for a historical fantasy undertone, in addition to the humour).
"I don't know how this game reads in Slovak", well, I can assure you, to a Slovak the game is about 10 times more hysterical than a non-speaker, it is originally written in a hillarious mix of regional dialects and it had me (and a couple friends along) in tears almost constantly. A great many screenshots were made in those 3-4 hours
