How to perform abacus subtraction ( Small Friends only)
Let us take an example
7 - 4
Step 1: Place 7 on the abacus
Step 2: 4 is to be subtracted. Check how many beads are there at the lower end( Here only two beads are present).
Step 3: Check who is the friend of 4.
Step 4: 1 is the friend of 4
Step 5: This is important, subtract 5 on the abacus and add 1.
We get the answer as 3.

Q: 7 - 4 = ??
STEPS:
(1)Make a 7 using the beads !
(2)Since we dont have ENOUGH beads in the lower part of our ABACUS to subtract 4 thats why..
(3)DEFAULT !! Remove the BEAD whose value was 5 !!
(4) Now , since we have to subtract "4" according to the question . Therefore we REMEMBERED "4" friend was "1".
(5)Hence, INSTEAD OF SUBTRACTING "4" we SUBTRACT "1" !
(6)Count the beads which are touching the middle line .. Thats the ANSWER !

Absolutely correct ! You don't need small friends here because you have enough beads to subtract 2 from 8.
If you are confused, follow this
1. Check if there are enough beads or not
2. If there are not enough beads, apply friends concepts. Otherwise do it directly.
