Thankfully the fine folks at Standard Mfg (many of whom came from Colt and USFA) are now making a similar quality single action, albeit more costly than what the USFA originally retailed for.

    • @markrhuett
      @markrhuett 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yes, they learned in order to make a profit you have to raise the price. I actually will be purchasing a Standard instead of a Colt since I believe they are better made.

@@markrhuett The Colts cylinder throats are all over the place. HUGE variations from gun to gun and even from chamber to chamber of the same cylinder. That explains the lousy accuracy of the average Colt SAA. My Uberti clone is so much more consistent than my 7 1/2" Colt New Frontier made in 1962 for example.

I picked up one of these from my LGS a couple of months ago. It seems your's may have a longer barrel though, mine is the 4 5/8" one. Like the one in your video, I don't believe it had ever been fired, outside the factory. I've put about 30 rounds through it, cleaned and waxed it, and it has a place of honor in my safe now. Everything you said about the gun is dead on. It is a work of art, and joy to handle. I'm not really a single action guy, but I'm glad I went ahead and got this one.

I'm REALLY lovin Hickok's review of this revolver as I'm the PROUD owner of a USFA Premium Grade SAA. IMHO, it's a work of supreme craftsmanship. The feature of this revolver that decided me to spend $1000 was their incorporating the Colt 1st Gen. straight-taper cone shaped hammer mounted firing pin, just like the originals. It is, pure & simple, my pride & joy. Thank you Hickok45 for this review. JD

It was the zip 22 gun that killed the company. They sold all of their original tooling machines used for the single actions to fund the zip 22 project, and it was a huge flop. Just wanted to let you know, love the video. Beautiful gun, and great shooting as always

When Wild Bill Hickock shot Dave Tutt, it was considered an extraordinary feat of accuracy. The distance was 75 yards.
The fact that you can hit a 10 inch gong from over 100 yards would have Wild Bill shaking your hand in appreciation of your prowess with the pistol.

I have that same model and can attest they are built like a fine watch. The fit finish and mechanics of the US Firearms clones are far and away the best of the lot. I would even go as far as saying they feel even more polished and hand fit than an actual Colt. They are also very true to the original design.
    Beautiful guns!

It's hard to mass produce something that requires intensive hand crafting, and sell it at a price that competes with automation. It's a shame, because it seems like there ought to be a market for higher end, well made guns.

I had one of the USfA SAA with the 45 Colt and 45 acp cylinders. I was going to get into SASS but couldn't make it work with my schedule. I never shot it and sold it for what I had in it which was about $1300 to a SASS member in my area. figured it would get used, and thats a firearms thing. (At least with me.)
    The gun's finish was gorgeous.

I got an offer a few years ago (but I declined )for my unfired NIB in .45Colt with .45ACP extra cylinder and ivory grips for $2,900. It came with a solid walnut grip but I ordered the ivory grips as well. It just sits in my safe now. I don’t want to shoot it because of it’s uniqueness. It will be gifted to my sone one day. I shoot my Colt 3rd Gen instead, but need to get either a Standard or EMF as another “shooter,” as I hear they’re the two best clones currently made.

  • @bargainboondocker3420

Nice, the slo-mo at the end is back.
you mentioned that the gun appeared to be un-fired when you got it. Last year I picked up a Winchester Model '94 that was made in 1980 and it appeared to be pristine as well. The bore was like new and not a scratch on it, even around the loading gate. Since then it's been fired a lot, after all it's a tool to be used, but it was nice to get something that fresh and still pay used prices.
    Thanks for the great vid

Bought one of the US Firearms US pre war saa 45's somewhere around 2004 from a very well known gun dealer in Owensboro, Ky. Placed it beside a Colt , handled it and closely inspected it and my opinion was that it is superior to the Colt. Now some more information but not 100% sure that it is completely accurate. I've been told that this model was handmade on the same milling machine's ( refurbished of course) that the originals were made on. Also that there were negotiations between US Firearms and Colt for US Firearms to begin making the SAA for Colt because of the quality workmanship that go into these guns. Once again, don't know how accurate this information was but I can vouch for the excellent quality of this weapon.

Even if it is a clone it is a colt 45 Long Colt, it is a SAA, it is a magnificent Revolver that always since I was a child to watch westerns movies I liked its shape in all the cannon lengths, in short it is a historical weapon of always, and the explanations of hickok45 is to be very clear that it is a weapon with a lot of quality.

I prefer the Single Action Army Revolvers made by Ruger because I don't have to worry about loading 5

Mine is a little different, it has the engraved cylinder and the hammer is color case hardened. The gun has never been fired but I don't know how much longer I can hold out. I would love to buy another and put big horn grips on it.

14:09 Don't know if the bullet ricocheted into the can on the right or if it was pot debris, but there was a nice 2 for 1 there
