I love your channel, I get to relive some of my favorite memories and learn something new at the same time. These older 60,70,and 80s bikes were nothing short of awesome. Nothing today even comes close.
My Dad bought one for my 12th Birthday. I rode the wheels off of it, I loved it and rode until. I was 18 years old or older. Mine was blue, always my favorite bike.
I would trade my new Ice Bear for a decent SL in a heartbeat.I wish they would remake the SL70 the ST90 and the 125 on off road. They would all be great bikes to clone. I dont think they would have any trouble moving them and make a lot of sales.
When you’re ready, just holler. I’d love to make another trip back to your area. Amy and I really liked the RV park/lake we stayed at. You get all the pieces ready and we’ll come over for a weekend and help you put it together!
We’ll go the speed of whatever the slowest bike there. We’ll have a few stretches where we can open them up, but for the most part, we’ll just be tooling along country roads.
That turned out really nice Mike. I like how you fabricated the mounts for the turn signals/ headlight. I guess I have my answer now to the gearing question 🙂
I’m extremely happy with it. On the initial test run, I wasn’t sure if I liked the gearing and, as I said in the video, I contemplated dropping the front to a 16. As I headed back to the shop, it started to feel like everything was falling into place and the entire bike was just running/riding better. I stayed out for a 40 mile ride and I’m very happy with the gearing and will stay with the 17t front. I would run it to 55 in 3rd gear and it would still accelerate in 4th. The speedo only goes to 60, but that can be pinned fairly easy. Plus, the low RPM’s in 4th, while running 45mph, just made it a joy to ride.
Really nice fabrication of the headlight mounts! Looks factory, as if HONDA would have put signals on the bike. There shouldn’t be any rattle noises coming from the headlight bucket with the way the harness got packed. The yellow color and turn signals make for a good combination to set the bike off and eye catching as the “flagship” for the group ride! Sounds like you can call 4th gear your overdrive.
I bought it off eBay. It is a reproduction. It’s made by the company “Arthur Fulmer”. I’ve collected their helmets for years. I think this one is from 2009.
May I ask for your help . I am trying to solder all the wires to back of my SL70 ign switsh . The problem is between the Honda Diagram and the back of the switch it self . I need a clear pic of the back of the switch where all the wires are soldered . Can anyone help pleaseThanks Jeff
@@jeffmullinix7916 I don’t have any pics of the SL70 switch. I’d recommend joining the online forum “LiLHonda.com” and ask there. I’m willing to bet someone has a pic of what you need.
That’s one of the best parts of building custom bikes and not worrying about being correct or restoring to original……I get to build it my way. I’m not a fan of how high the speedo sits in the intended bracket position. Seeing that I was making custom headlight ears, I decided to drop the speedo and tuck it in closer to the headlight. Much better look, IMO.
Hey Mike, I'm currently building my first bike. A 71 sl70. Doing the 125cc lifan engine. Do you have an aftermarket source fir the front forks? Mine are pretty beat up. Thanks
@@davidgilman9316 Since I don’t restore bikes, I’ve always used whatever forks were on the bike….knicks, dings and all. I clean them up, repaint and call it good. I know there are forks on eBay that work well with a SL70. They are an inch longer than stock.
Yes. On the first run and first stop, I didn’t feel like it was going to keep pulling, but the more I rode it and got more comfortable, it pulled past 60mph in 4th.
The mounting brackets are completely different between the CT and XL/SL, but I’m not sure if the spacing on the mount from speedo to bracket. I haven’t measured, but they are very similar. I’ll be at shop tomorrow and will try to measure each for you.

Those wires in the headlight bucket remind me of what Dolly Parton says her daddy used to say, "That's like shoving 50 pounds into a 5 pound sack."
🤣
You’ve really got me wanting to get both of my SL70’s out of that storage unit. Love what you did to make it road legal.

I would love to see a video of your fab shop department.
Thanks. I’ll add that to my list of future vids.

Thanks Steve! I actually like the way the bike looks with the signals.
@@MiniBikeMike I do to Mike a lot. I think I am going to add them to mine. Did you get everything from TB ?
The signals came from Amazon. The switch from eBay. Links to parts is in the video description.
My new favorite too, sir
👍🏻
Oh man, I was planning on doing a 17/32 set up on the ct70 140 swap I'm planning on building. This video gives me hope for how fun it'll be to ride
I’m running 17/32 on my Icebear Champion CT70 clone, with a 125cc engine…and it hits 56/57mph. With a 140, it would scoot.

Hello Mike, thank you very much for the video. A really great bike.
Thanks! Yes, I’m really enjoying it.
Why not just pick up the XL70? It’s what I grew up on.
You lost me. What XL70?
A great little bike. I wished that motor would fit in my 1972 CL100. But the frame is different.
There are 200cc engines on eBay that probably a direct bolt in for your bike.
@@MiniBikeMike are the lifhen or another brand. I’ll see what I can find. The 100 that is in it is a little too slow for the roads that I drive.
@@cainbeeping8480 The Lifan’s are like $800. The unbranded ones are $400.
Wish I could come on the ride. Canada is a little far from Indiana

Never had one in my SL70's days, but loved your video
Does bring back great memories, thanks so much!🤣
Thank you for watching!
Very nice little bike there. Got a question, what mirrors are those?
Thanks. Link is in the description.
Hi Mike. Did you use the bike's original wiring harness with the lifan engine?
No, I use a harness made specific for the Lifan engines and 12v lights. If you watch the video previous to this one, it has the harness in it.
@@MiniBikeMike Thank you!
I love your American flag helmet. Is it a reproduction or is it an original if it’s a reproduction where can I get one?

I must’ve missed something. So did the bike accelerate in 4th gear?
Yes. On the first run and first stop, I didn’t feel like it was going to keep pulling, but the more I rode it and got more comfortable, it pulled past 60mph in 4th.
Are the CT70 ,XL70 and the SL70 speedometers all the same including the bolt spacing for the brackets?

It looks as though the two mounting post on the bottom of the speedos is the same width. I would say a CT70 speedo will fit on a SL70 bracket.
