In Ringer terms Nayman is the Dion Waiters Award embodied as a podcaster. Semi-regularly comes on the Big Picture and drains 3s, grabs boards and overall +/- consistently through the roof. Let. Him. Cook.
Nayman mentioned the term “Methadone Fincher” on The Big Picture and I want to go on record saying I’d love an extensive list of movies in this category.
Half the time I disagree with Adam but every year he introduces me to those 2/3 movies that hit the mark. For 2024, I thank him for "Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World".
Clint Eastwood putting Americans on blast in Juror No. 2! an absolutely ruthless portrait of the 'I just did [insert act of evil] for my family' ethos that pervades the U.S. (no wonder the French love it)
The list: 10. "Here" by Robert Zemeckis 9 tie. "Babygirl" by Halina Reijn 9 tie. "Last Summer" by Catherine Breillat 8. "Trap" by M. Night Shyamalan 7. "Evil Does Not Exist" by Ryusuke Hamaguchi 6. "All We Imagine as Light" by Payal Kapadia 5. "Nickel Boys" by RaMell Ross 4. "The Beast" by Bertrand Bonello 3. "Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World" by Radu Jude 2. "Juror No. 2" by Clint Eastwood 1. "Red Rooms" by Pascal Plante If you are having trouble falling asleep I recommend watching these "great" movies-with maybe three exceptions-IF you can find them
Adam Nayman is someone I love listening to because everything he says is so well thought out and articulated. His movie recommendations are also always well worth watching. Red Rooms and Chime (which he’d praised on the Big Picture pod) are both excellent films.
He's very interesting to me, because I'll either agree with him strongly (Red Rooms,) or completely disagree with him. Trap was the dumbest movie I saw this year, and The Beast was just unwatchably ugly.
I saw a reddit post on one of the ringer subs and it asked if Adam Nayman has ever like anything mainstream. The only examples I can think of were Trap and Ambulance but then I realized those werent exactly crowd pleasers.
10. Here 9. Babygirl 9. Last Summer 8. Trap 7. Evil Does Not Exist 6. All We Imagine is Light 5. Nickel Boys 4. The Beast 3. Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World 2. Juror #2 1. Red Rooms
Maybe I should watch Trap again because I really thought it was kind of ridiculous. How can the hottest show in town have so many at concessions during the show? 😂 I thought it was stuck between comical and dark thriller . Wish it would have committed to either one 100% 🤷🏻♂️
Brave and good call on the sentimental ‘Here’. Boomers annoy everyone these days but time shall be kind on this one. ‘Trapped’ makes the movie police appear dumber than usual.
I must say, your tone here is a pleasant surprise compared to the podcast. On the podcast, your edgy and confrontational style can feel off-putting, even alienating at times. However, in this video, you come across as calm, insightful, and kind, which makes your thoughts on the best films of 2024 much more engaging. Have you considered bringing more of this gentler approach to the podcast? It might help connect better with your audience.
10. Here Babygirl/Last Summer Trap Evil Does Not Exist All We Imagine As Light Nickel Boys The Beast Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World Juror #2 1. Red Rooms
Everything on this list is extremely niche and pretentious, then he drops Juror #2 on us which is such a standard movie in many ways. I know chronologically it doesn't really match up but Juror #2 is almost a companion piece to the Karen Read murder case in many ways.
Liked the concept of Juror #2 but Clint Eastwood scripts/dialogue are consistently garbage with one dimensional characters. Paint by number stuff. Maybe that explains why the French love it, they like to comfort themselves with American caricatures.
I'm a M Night fan. I saw Trap ina special preview the day before it opened nationally. It was lol bad and not bad-fun...just bad. The fact that you thought it was one of the top 10 movies of the year literally invalidates the rest of your list
You lose all credibility by including Trap on this list. I’m open to other opinions and thinking “out the box” but Trap is ludicrous and point blank not a well made movie. Your ability to suspend belief must be gargantuan.

Let.

Cook.

“Zemeckis is riding his own personal polarising express…” is the most devastating line of 2024 and came in just under the wire.
Half the time I disagree with Adam but every year he introduces me to those 2/3 movies that hit the mark. For 2024, I thank him for "Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World".
YES! I watched that one too because Adam spoke highly of it and he was right.
You are so right! This stayed with me days later after watching it.
Great list, Adam. Went to watch Red Rooms due to your recommendation on the Big Pic. What a fascinating piece of work about the internet psyche.
my love for adam is profound. truly
Love some Nayman content
If anyone on NYE asks me if I saw any good films this year, I'll be copying Adam's list so I sound smart
Just say “Twisters”
More Adam please! He's my favorite Ringer contributor by a large margin!
Naymannnnn, "the polarizing express"??? This is why they pay you the big bucks.
Clint Eastwood putting Americans on blast in Juror No. 2! an absolutely ruthless portrait of the 'I just did [insert act of evil] for my family' ethos that pervades the U.S. (no wonder the French love it)
My film conspiracy theory is that Nayman is actually AO Scott in the same way that Justice is actually Daft Punk

😂 that last sentence
Just curious what were your "exceptions"?
Last sentence is gooold

Nayman is the best person at Ringer Movies. Treasure.
just watched Juror #2 today. Loved it. Good list, Mr. Nayman
I didn’t know I needed a Fincher-esque FEMCEL thriller, it it ruled.
Red rooms was well worth the watch, going to check out the rest of the list soon
Loved the breakdowns!
Can you list some of the movies just outside of the top 10?
Power move by Nayman to only include bad American films to his list of favorite foreign films.
I saw a reddit post on one of the ringer subs and it asked if Adam Nayman has ever like anything mainstream. The only examples I can think of were Trap and Ambulance but then I realized those werent exactly crowd pleasers.
Yayyyy i love the Beast
I haven’t seen any of these movies but I will try to check some out.

I had to turn off juror #2 about 30 minutes in. It was so ham handed.
red roooms is a masterpiece
Trap was god awful. Shaymalan's daughter's acting is in no way acting. And she sings about 5 too many full songs
Maybe I should watch Trap again because I really thought it was kind of ridiculous. How can the hottest show in town have so many at concessions during the show? 😂
I thought it was stuck between comical and dark thriller . Wish it would have committed to either one 100% 🤷🏻♂️
"It's broadly progressive 'it's not easy being green' themes" lol I liked wicked but I love how much Adam is annoyed with this movie
Man I wish I could see what you saw in Juror #2
Solid list
Brave and good call on the sentimental ‘Here’. Boomers annoy everyone these days but time shall be kind on this one. ‘Trapped’ makes the movie police appear dumber than usual.
I really enjoyed Trap and Juror #2

Man I do not get how some of these are on here
Nayman? Yay, man 😎
Nayman could review an episode of Teletubbies and I'd listen to it.
10. Here

Nickel Boys is a novel, not non-fiction.
Liked the concept of Juror #2 but Clint Eastwood scripts/dialogue are consistently garbage with one dimensional characters. Paint by number stuff. Maybe that explains why the French love it, they like to comfort themselves with American caricatures.
ad-am! ad-am! ad-am!!
TL:DW can I consume this in list form?
My least favorite Nicholas Hoult 2024 movie made the list 😐
TRAP😂😂😂
I'm a M Night fan. I saw Trap ina special preview the day before it opened nationally. It was lol bad and not bad-fun...just bad. The fact that you thought it was one of the top 10 movies of the year literally invalidates the rest of your list
Sincerely, sincerely cannot understand the obsession with Juror #2. It's beyond mid.
Trap was the worst movie I paid to see in 2024
So putting Trap on here was a troll, right?
You lose all credibility by including Trap on this list. I’m open to other opinions and thinking “out the box” but Trap is ludicrous and point blank not a well made movie. Your ability to suspend belief must be gargantuan.
My guy trolling with Here but the top 3 are excellent.
I LOVED HERE
According to The Whale.
