  • Welcome to Koh Samet, a hidden gem in the Gulf of Thailand, just thirty minutes off the coast of Rayong Province. This beautiful little island is located four hours from Bangkok and is the perfect place to escape the frenetic energy of city life.
    We'd heard that few tourists visit this island, so we figured it was time to find out why. Armed with a rented motorbike and a sense of adventure, we set off to discover the best beaches, viewpoints, and hidden gems this quiet island offers.
    Koh Samet quickly won our hearts with its laid-back atmosphere and welcoming vibes, making it one of our favorite beach destinations in Thailand. We highly recommend visiting if you have the chance!

    used to go to Samet every month when I was younger (10-15 years ago), really really nice beaches and cheap. Lot of westerner tourist back then but surprisingly to see few of them nowaday.
    Tub Tim was always my favorite beach on the island, so quiest and private.

      Yea, we liked the fact that you could separate the day bag. Now, I’d be less likely to use that and get a proper 55 liter bag because I have to also carry around my camera bag for making videos. (It’s mega heavy! 😅😂)
      The one piece of advice I’d have for packing for over here is not to over pack things like clothes. You can purchase so many things here so inexpensively that you may be bummed if your bag is already stuffed.
      You can get most things you need once you are here, but we’ve found that things like deodorants, undergarments, your preference on skincare, etc can be difficult to match out here. Everything else is readily available.

    What you heard may be inaccurate. Samed is a well-known island for Thai people as a weekend party destination, popular among the LGBTQ+ community and people who don't have much time. It's near Bangkok, affordable, and easy to access. It hardly advertises to foreigners since they already receive enough local tourists. I wouldn't recommend it to foreigners either since there are many other beautiful islands. Why spend time on something ordinary when you travel thousands of kilometers from your home country? The island is quiet on weekdays, especially during the rainy season. It can be nice if you stay at a good resort, but there are much nicer islands nearby, such as Koh Chang, or further away like Koh Kood and Koh Mak. The last two islands are definitely gems because it takes time to travel to them, and most Thais won't have that much time. If they do, they would rather go south than to the east. The cleanliness of Thai beaches depends on the season. In the east of Thailand, the water will be clear around the beginning of the year when the currents bring in clear water. Even the typically unattractive Bang Saen and Pattaya beaches can look okay at that time. Most of the garbage floats from the rivers into the sea and is blown back to the shore by waves. Normally, deserted beaches will be very dirty because no one takes care of them, but those with beachfront resorts will be kept clean by the resort staff. However, apart from the mainland east of Thailand, it's beyond cleaning.

    • @mikeandashley
      @mikeandashley  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That makes sense. I believe when we talk about it being a hidden gem, we’re saying that it doesn’t get attention from tourists outside of Thailand. We don’t hear about Koh Samed when people talk about Thai islands, only the others that you’ve mentioned and the very popular ones. So for us, this felt just right. We love the local vibes and the laid back atmosphere of the places we visited. To us, Koh Samed is where it’s at! It didn’t feel ordinary at all. 👌

      Hello! 👋😊 I think you may be the one who recommended us going to Koh Samet! We would love to go to Koh Chang and Koh Kood! And we know about the dogs. We always reach a fist out to let them sniff us first to let us know if they are down for a pet. 😊

    "Go to Samet, everyone is finished." This is a sentence that almost every Bangkokian from the time I was a teenager knew this sentence. It's a non-serious sentence. It's a bit of a funny sentence. The meaning is when you take your lover to Koh Samet. Your relationship will rise to the next level. Because it is a very romantic place and not too far from Bangkok. It's a bit funny and rated 18+.😂😂😂

    I used to take my two kids to Tub Tim beach many years ago! It was quiet and secluded. Now it has become the 'Gay Resort beach' of Bangkok's young men. A bit intimidating last visit to say the least! I'm accepting of all types in life but these dudes got quite outrageous! Never again!

    Every places in thailand always be this, “walk in price” are always more expensive than price from application. That’s a fact

    So pathetic to come from the US, to pay so much money for the flight tickets and half of the video to spend on searching cheap hotel and cheap food and keep on talking and talking about it ..🙄.

    Agoda deal is always cheaper - normal in Thailand.
    When the tourism getting better, the room price charges at full amount and agoda doesn’t help much for them (hotels)

    • @mikeandashley
      @mikeandashley  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That’s so strange! We used to run a hotel, and you set your own prices on Agoda, Booking, etc. and then you have to pay them a commission. So we would always match the price of Agoda and take the direct booking so we don’t have to pay the commission. But good to know, we will always book online as the prices are better usually. 😊 We would just prefer to pay the $$ to the hotel so the small business gets the $$. But we have to be budget conscious. 😅
