    Great video! At 71, I’ve only been playing pool regularly since retirement and purchasing a table. While I’ve spent most of my time learning to pot the ball, I’m understanding more the value of safeties and really working on position. Understanding and recognizing alternative strategies like this are priceless, thanks!

    The joy of sticking your opponent with an even lower-percentage shot makes playing the safety so rewarding. Making shots isn't the only fun to be had.

    I love it how you explain this, the thinking process has to be widened......there are always several options. Again fantastic video

    This shot came up in my tournament Tuesday night and your video immediately came to mind. The only difference was the corner pocket shot wasn’t available because another ball was too tight to the object ball. Potted the cross bank and was down table with a look at the next ball. Got some wows from the guys, thanks!

    Thanks for a great video, I really admire your percentage mind.
    I’ve got two questions about the first 1 ball scenario:
    1. Would you have played the same cross bank even if the 3 and the 4 weren’t there, which blocks the path for the right hand English shot?
    2. I personally like potting the 1 into the top left corner with right hand English and some top spin as well. In the video you tried this shot without any top spin, and I’d love to know why you shot it without any top spin.
    Again, thanks for the video and it’ll be great if I could know more of what you think.

    Hi Karl, I love your videos. I had an idea for future one that I haven’t seen done before. What do you think about playing a series of racks where an Amateur called your spin and shot selection? Given how important decision making is, it might be a good illustration of how pro level execution may not be able to always make up for amateur level decision making/shot selection.

    Good thing I played a lot of one pocket to recognize these for my rotation game, lot easier of recognize these banks as getting the cue ball at the same spot is also higher %. Thanks Karl! 👍

Would be nice to see some of the young upstart players going to be there playing featured in the juniors tournament dropping into some of your videos while there. One of our area’s own will be there representing in the tournament.

    I learned that cross bank with the two way safety aspect from an old Buddy Hall tape called 'How do you win from here?'
    And he was all about seeing and playing the percentage play for that whole video. I remembered it, and it was the first thing I thought seeing the layout here.
    Nice video, Karl!

  • @vieolop
    @vieolop 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    for the 2nd scenario, isn't it too passive not to play the pot with drag? seems like a higher percentage shot than going for the bank if you wanna stay aggressive

    • @vieolop
      @vieolop 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      and what I find for most amateurs, unlike the pros out there, we have a preference for the speed we are used to for the bank shot whereby the angle of object ball will close more the harder and lower you hit, so by adjusting our speed to ensure the 2-way safe, we are lowering the percentage of banking the 2 ball in a sense?

    • @KarlBoyesPoolLife
      @KarlBoyesPoolLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get the drag check spin shot it’s just tuff with no % if you miss, having said that just don’t miss and play it confident

  • @garybkatz
    @garybkatz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The first scenario, with the 1 and 2 at opposite ends of the table, has come up countless times for me, and probably for everyone else too. The cross bank is a much better approach than practically trying to violate the laws of physics!

  • @jasonsanders9054
    @jasonsanders9054 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Slightly elevated cue with low left and use the left to bring it back.

  • @beercanbrian1880
    @beercanbrian1880 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Play a drag shot on that 2 for position on the the 3 for forks sake. (just don't miss)

  • @jasonsanders9054
    @jasonsanders9054 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The bank is the right shot but when the object ball is close to a rail like that with a big angle you have to use more side spin. On that shot about 15 to 20 degrees elevation and low left you can almost come back on the same angle. It is a feel shot and the pot is a little harder because you can have some curve on the curb ball but it's a shot everyone needs to have

  • @bogdanstojanovic6708
    @bogdanstojanovic6708 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As soon as you mentioned attacking safety i knew that you would play that shot on the one ball 😂 but to be honest at first i thought about playing the one with low left

    Brother man first shot it’s a jack up swerve drawl shot left hand English takes a little bit of practice to get it it’s not as difficult as you think if you know your cue second shot scary but with some practice you get real good at it’s called a drag draw stroke. you know all that stuff.
