CROs are experiencing record layoffs and the quality of CRO work is falling dramatically. They’re hiring inexperienced folks, treat them bad, it’s all about hourly billing, getting in those hours!!!! Screw the quality of research. Been in the industry. Very long time and people that I know have said the same thing. Sponsors need to go back to hiring independent contractors or perm employees. CROs are trash these days.

I can agree with the quality of work being really bad. Worked previously at IQVIA and they have almost 0 training and managers aren't closely connected with the team, they only care about kpi and making sure people complete online training modules, apparently that's all that shows up on his end in the data spreadsheet lmao. He probably just reports that to the director but he has no idea what everybody's doing at the day to day level. Regarding no training.. the Sponsor has to provide all the training and babysit the CRO people until they become capable, but then they leave. So, the sponsor has to retrain some newbie who's work experience includes 20 years working at Costco... Wtf are you doing. CRO space is so bad right now it's incredible. All these ineffectiveness I believe will affect companies in a really negative light until they straighten that out.

I think part of the problem is that turnover is so fast in CRO and nobody really wants to stay in CROs forever because people are overworked for Low pay. So with so much turnover, there's lack of incentive to put the effort in training people and up their quality. Cuz they'll leave anyways like I have lol. Now I'm with sponsor and the pays way better

The fast turnover in CROs and the layoffs are due to the fact that CROs royally *suck* at monetizing their services. Their profit margin is based on traveling CRAs...period. They are like restaurants with 20 items on the menu but only one of them is priced to profit. Also, skillsets will not get you a job anymore, not in the age of the ATS. ATS's only scrape for job titles, not for skills. If you haven't already done the job, you will not be reported out of the ATS as a candidate for the job. This is as true in clinical research/CROs as it is in any other industry.@@user-sr5kj6ej9z

After going through two mergers (buyouts by non-CRO companies) with large CROs, I decided that I’m done with the CRO world. Tired of being treated poorly by non-CRO management coming in and trying to change everything and cutting costs affecting quality. Moving over to the sponsor side soon.

So right! Biotech (industry) is so rough rn 😮‍💨 I worked at a company and was part of a large layoff, moved to another company back to entry level and the company got rid of a whole branch, now I’m switching for better pay (still entry) 8 months later and the day after I got the job, the ceo announced a 20% layoff. Definitely hoping to migrate to a different field. The rise in contract positions also seems odd

I got hired as an in house CRA 2 months ago, I followed all of your advice and videos!! With essentially no experience in research, aside from my degree in Biology.

Is there any chance of being able to become a remote CRA or a CRA without traveling to sites? I am unable to travel due to family dynamics.

Worked for them for a hot minute a few years ago. Nonexistent training, insane amount of studies, huge staff turn over, pay below industry standard. Not surprised they are doing mass offshoring. My current org is night & day when compared to them.
