Maybe the problem is that Martin doesn't want to pull a Rian Johnson and please his fans, who are this point are "kings with a tinfoil crown". Hell, he can't even use a basic word like "other" anymore, without someone immediately coming around and weaving it into some theory around the others. Or he's just being a real sloth.
I wonder how people would feel if Stannis and the Wildlings end up victorious in re-taking the North while Jon's still out of action xD That'd be such a nice shake up from the TV series.
That's something I would love to have, but the books are not the show. Gotta wait some decade or two for a serious attempt on adapting this "song" properly. (By the way, is your username a "romanization" of "Krystyna"...?)
Wow, I am still impressed with the level of detail George writes the books. All those moons are suspiciously often mentioned, but i always considered it as a way to describe the set/the setting. I admire George for almost never losing track of time and places. This is probably one of the reasons why we are still waiting for winds of winter. I hope Martin takes all the time he needs. this sneaky writing is excellent
Obsessed...? Everyone...? I'm afraid that you completely misunderstood my comment just like you misunderstand the meaning of the word "obsessed". What I meant is: *MoMoGon* thanked for a Christmas gift (the video) and got so many "Likes" that it looks as if he was thanking for them and not for the video. I specifically replied to *MoMoGon* and no one else. There's nothing obsessive in my wording, nor in the context. It was a friendly remark, nothing more, nothing less. How one can read me in any other way is beyond comprehension. Was the "smiley" at the end an indication of some kind of malicious intent...? To avoid any misunderstanding in the future, please, look up the definition of "obsession" and read other people's comments more carefully. Have a happy holidays.
@the DireCrow Leave her alone, she's posting the same sentence everywhere no matter if the context fits or not. There's no reasoning with her. She's literally fishing for "Likes". The only good thing that she's doing with this is pumping Preston's number of comments. I'm not sure if it's worth the annoyance, though.
I pictured a wall like in Police dramas where they are going after the Mob or a Drug Lord....With pictures and lines drawn and giant question marks.....
@Maria Ramirez Could you please stop posting the same Septon meme everywhere? Even under the comments that it does not fit? I don't want to offend you, but it does look pathetic. You either don't know English or have no respect towards the OPs, because you don't read what they wrote. If you need medications of some sort, get them. I sure hope that the required doses haven't been, you know, annulled or something.
Thanks for the video Preston. Perhaps I'm over thinking things myself, but I don't believe it would take George as long between books as it does if he wasn't keeping accurate account of such things as the timeline and other "miscellanea". Or maybe I've been listening to you so long I can't tell the difference between silver and tinfoil. Happy Holidays!
Because some dates/times aren't really crucial to the story. But Preston does a great job of picking out the dates/times that do seem to play a crucial role....and I'm happy for that because I do not want to spend the time doing it, but I do want to know about it
Two people, really old fans. I can't recall their names. I heard him talk about them in a few interviews. Check out the 92Y with George, iirc he talks about them a little bit there. Plus it's just a good interview.
All I want for Christmas is a Preston Jacobs video. Seriously, I've been away from home for months, didn't celebrate Christmas with family nor friends, and worked today. This is probably the only gift I'll get for today, and it's a great one. Thank you Preston !
Imagine working at the post office, looking at all the gifts and postcards send to people around the world, and none of them are for you. I mean... Merry Christmas! :x
Speaking of Nights Watch I always was curious about one thing. Who left the Dragonglass weapons at the Fist of the First Men that Jon found? Here is the quote from the section... "Beneath the dragonglass was an old warhorn, made from an auroch's horn and banded in bronze. Jon shook the dirt from inside it, and a stream of arrowheads fell out. He let them fall, and pulled up a corner of the cloth the weapons had been wrapped in, rubbing it between his fingers. Good wool, thick, a double weave, damp but not rotted. *It could not have been long in the ground*. And it was dark. He seized a handful and pulled it close to the torch. Not dark. Black. Even before Jon stood and shook it out, he knew what he had: the black cloak of a Sworn Brother of the Night's Watch." "It could not have been long in the ground" Who put it there? Why? Who knew at this time that dragonglass kills the Others?
But Cold Hands is too old. The wool is preserved too well. It couldn't match his "age". The cloak belonged to someone much younger than Cold Hands. If Cold Hands wore it the material would have degraded with time.
Rhaenyra Reigns "Too young" would only be problematic, not too old. He could have found a cloak (nights watch would be good to use because the other nights watch would see it as help) . Unless it's benjen
Preston I have been watching since a month or two before you started the 100 worlds book club and I must say you are my absolute favorite you tuber ever. I could listen to you talk in your character impressions for hours and will gladly follow you even after dream of spring hits us in 32 years. Merry Christmas!
2:45 What you describe is actually not possible. Ramsay went hunting (looking for the missing Freys) only after Manderly arrived from White Harbor (he also travelled very slowly btw) and Manderly didn't leave White Harbor till after he knew of Deepwood's Fall.
Thank you, this video is the best christmas gift I got this year. I found myself waiting for new material almost as much as for Winds of Winter itself.

I think your assumption about moon cycles in Westeros is correct. In astronomy, a fortnight is half a synodic month, equivalent to the mean time between a full moon and a new moon (and vice versa). This is equal to 14.77 days. They wouln't use the term with another definition. Also I believe months and years are equivalent to earth's.
I always wondered how years work in ASOIAF, since it clearly has nothing to do with the seasons as seasons can last for several years. I'm assuming when he uses units of time like years, months and weeks he's intending for it to be analogous to Earth time as a frame of reference even though it technically doesn't make much sense in that setting
Preston: love your stuff, it just seems hard to assume that the moon behaves the way it does here for a world where summers and winters are of various lengths.
