- Former Victorian Liberal Party president Michael Kroger took Anthony Albanese to task for walking away from his election promise of a $275 power bill reduction.
“Before Albo made his promise, he knew full well this promise was an absolute dishonest lie,” Mr Kroger told Sky News host Paul Murray.
“If you are in any doubt, have a look at that childish waffle he goes on today on Perberthy’s program.
“Shame on you Albo for misleading the entire country into thinking that a cost of living crisis could be easily dealt with.
“What Albanese did was win this election partly on that disgraceful con job.”

Oil, diesel fuel, is a significant fuel in South Australia the green energy state. The intermittent generation and loss of our baseload generation has meant more often than not we are running up to 200MW of diesels on still nights. Just look at the Sulfurous haze over the Western suburbs on a still morning just after sunrise. Haze that hasn't been seen since the late 1980's when leaded fuel was phased out.

Why are you referring to brent crude oil in relation to power bills? Wouldn't the price of coal be a better commodity to look at? Before May 2021, the price of coal was ~$60. It briefly peaked at $228 in October 2021. It stayed above $135 until the war. After the invasion on Feb 24th 2022, the price briefly peaked again at $439 on March 3rd 2022 before coming down to about $330 around the federal election. It has steadily come down to where it is today at ~$95.
SA has the highest percent of renewables in the form of solar/wind and also have the highest power prices in the country....so not exactly cheap. To add to that, many have solar rooftop, most of which have been subsidised by debt. To pretend like all these sunk costs disappear when you don't think about it is delusional. Next they'll be saying company cars are the cheapest form of transportation because they're freeeeeee*™
