This review is one of the BEST in the laptop review space - most thoroughly tested and researched...you leave no detail uncovered. I am truly surprised, you do have a bigger audience?! I subscribed right away. You put all these well-funded and established outlets and test sites to shame!!!
Wow, thanks so much! Part of the reason I started this channel was because of how little detailed info I could find out there myself on some of these types of systems so I really appreciate that.
I can't believe it, I followed this channel because I want to buy a very good laptop that can be used to play games, for university and to upgrade components a little in a few years. I was convinced to buy the G15 and that's how I got here, but these weeks after a lot of research I found that the best option for me would be the Flow x16 and you just released this video!! You’re the best!!!
This video does justice to show how versatile this device is. Props to ASUS, they've outdone themselves again... And your review with the deep dive really does justice to it. 45 mins of goodness.
I like your review, you actually think like a real buyer and user and actually compare similar laptops in the same class, what's good for similar price, future proof, etc. Other reviewers just list the specs, feels nice, but I have no comparison. Highly underrated reviews
Just a note on the "Optimized" GPU Mode which i find is the most helpful mode there. It will auto disable the dGPU on battery and fully enable it on AC Power. Giving you in my opinion the best of both worlds (Battery life and performance on demand when plugged in)

Honestly had made up my mind about it but now this has jumped in the mix! Awesome review! I honestly would not have given a hybrid touchscreen laptop even a 1st look if it wasn't for this review.
Thank you! Yeah I had tried the Legion myself and wasn’t a big fan. A lot of it was personal preference of course but to me the X16 is the best gaming laptop I’ve used out of probably like at least a dozen of the top ones out there that I’ve tested now.

This is the most thorough review that I have found for the X16 - subscribed because of it. I bought the X16 when it released, and I agree completely with your review. It is an amazing and versatile machine. That said, had I not been saving off and on for a couple of _years_ specifically for a new laptop, it would have been out of reach financially. My only disappointments are the lackluster camera and that USB4 is _still_ not available as of this date (Dec 31, 2022). I know they are working on USB4, but they are taking far too long to get it done.
Damn asus on fire since recent times. Plus, another grade A content from my new favorite reviewer. With your in depth analysis and passion for tech, you're going places man
I bought the X16 last month, and hot dang, what a display indeed. Had a fluctuating dimming issue when the HDR was on, but solved that with switching off some power saving option in the AMD driver module. Hey Josh, just wanted to say awesome review man! As a fellow content creator who just started reviewing laptops too, 45 mins is no joke for B-roll footage haha. Some of my viewers pointed me to this laptop so I've been quite intrigued with it and you left no questions unanswered. Love the XG mobile aspect too, I feel with a 3070ti it is rather irrelevant to get a 3080 enclosure. Would you consider a 4080 version of the XG mobile when it comes out next year?
Absolutely!! A 4080 XG mobile on this would be insane. There’s also rumors of a 4090 XG mobile. And with DLSS3, you could be running games like Cyberpunk, max settings, RT at 4k 100+ fps. From a laptop. And THAT is mind blowing.
This is a brilliant review!!! Thanks! I'm in the process of upgrading from a Surface Book 2 15" (which I love, but want to get newer/higher performance innards). I work in both music and multi-media -- so that means I need a gpu but with controllable fan noise. I especially appreciate that you addressed music production specifically. And thanks for the thorough tutorial on managing performance, power and fan noise. I'm pretty close to deciding to buy this computer -- probably the less expensive one with the RTX 3060. (I'm not a gamer and am certain the 3060 will be more than enough for the applications I use.) Your review answered a lot of questions I've had about it. So, big thanks!
Did you buy the IPS variant of flow x16? Please let me know how the screen is?.are the blacks good? I have bought the IPS one ..hope its not night and day between that and mini led..
OLED means you can use mux switch(limphao), instant response time + 240hz, much superior performance in lower lighting and many scenarios(it just doesn't have as many dimming zones like the MacBook unfortunately) But yes, you do get less brightness though 500 nits is plenty unless you're using this thing outside lol
Yeah, I’ve heard people are having trouble with HDR on their GE67’s and Blade 15’s with that panel though. And they’re losing Freesync/Gsync. But the response time and contrast is nice of course
I've just seen your review trying to decide between this and the 2023 model and it is literally amazing. I mean, best review of a laptop I have ever seen. Subscribed !🤘
Really appreciate that! If you haven’t yet check out the 2023 review as well! It’s a tough choice and I wouldn’t doubt anyone for choosing either one over the other
@@JoshCravesTech Indeed, but I'll go with the AMD model, the one in your review. I'm fine with lower temps and also with the price. There's an ok deal here for 2100 €. The one with the i9 and the RTX 4070 is just too expensive at 3000 €, while the 4060 is not to my liking and yet still more expensive... I want this for photo and video editing and that screen is just 🤯. Thanks for the reply.
Thanks for mentioning the 3060 a bit compared to 3070ti, I was kinda worried for a bit it's gonna be very different later in the video, but yes that price is definitely worth for a perfect laptop like this! I'm kind of in love with this one because I have experience in graphic design; a 2in1 gaming laptop with amazing color gamut, touchscreen and very low fan noise? Kinda love this laptop already
@@JoshCravesTechYou said the 3060 is 10%-20% behind on games than the 3070ti, do you maybe know more about that? Would you think the games would still perform smooth enough for games also with ryzen 7? Really hope you think it's redeemable and you react to this 😶
@@rukeyburg1084 yes, the Ryzen 7 will not affect games hardly at all since the GPU is what matters 99% of the time when gaming on a QHD display like this. So yeah about 10-20% behind for the 3060. It’s still a solid GPU!
@@JoshCravesTech This is a pretty amazing laptop. Thanks for helping me decide. As much as I’d like to get the newer model, I didn’t want to break the bank or add any more debt. This is very affordable for what you are getting and will last for quite a while.
35:52 I actually use my laptop in this mode more often than in tent mode because the rubber strips on the deck provide grip, as opposed to no grip in tent mode One other comment I would like to make about on-the-go workload for illustrator is that it does not enable acceleration for the iGPU, so you will have to set the laptop to standard in Armoury crate, which will end up using more battery
Oh nice! That’s cool. Yeah I wonder if there’s a workaround for that. Adobe is great at not optimizing things on Windows so I wonder if it’s some compatibility issue between the Radeon 680m and Illustrator.
@@JoshCravesTech Yeah tbh it's not that Adobe is great at not optimizing for Windows, it's just that they're bad at in general and just much worse on Windows, I genuinely hope that there is a competitor because Adobe really needs to get off their ass and fix their stuff :/
@@Gokulbalram yeah I’m already looking into using DaVinci Resolve instead of Premiere Pro, I’ve had it with Adobe. Unfortunately stuck with them though on Photoshop, illustrator, and InDesign
I was lucky to find this on a open box and clearance combined sale since the 2023 models are coming soon. 32GB, Mini LED, 3070Ti model for basically 50% off. Cant wait to get it.
One possible problem due to the ROG XG Mobile implementation - if you happen to have it connected and active, when a black-out happens, whether intentional or just accidental, all the apps using the GPU, so today almost all, are going to crush along with Windows within a second or two of the power outage, even if you'll have the battery fully charged. What's worse, upon reboot you might end up with a blockage from the Asus Windows external GPU switching reporting/requesting that you turn on/power on/connect the XG Mobile before you're allowed into the OS... That's a huge PITA. Same applies if you do not disconnect in OS the XG Mobile, and just disconnect the cable when the laptop is off, and then attempt to start the system without powered-on XG Mobile. It's a weird behaviour that Asus might fix in the future, but since they haven't done so since the Flow X13 release, I very much doubt they're going to offer such a fix anytime in the future... I believe the NLTech, the malaysian youtuber who also reviewed this and others with the XG Mobile and without, had similar findings. What would have been even better, if Asus decided to switch to USB-C 240W charging as the powering solution, plus if they took that ROG port and split it into the USB-C or 2 and a USB-A or two, and by replacing the microSD with a full SD card reader from the ROG Mobile (cause yes, you can have microSD cards sitting flush, but you can't stick a full-size SD card into such a reader, while the opposite is possible due to multiple adapters, heck they might put both on the sides or maybe front lip to pack all the features)...
Awesome review. I wasn't even aware of this model and coming from a Spectre X360 it seems like this is the laptop that I was looking for when I was looking for a touchscreen laptop capable of gaming (albeit 4 years ago). I've been looking extensively at the G15 and G14 so I really appreciate the indepth reviews that you've been putting out on these. I'm very torn. Just ordered the G14 on a great deal in Canada ($1,799 CAD = $1,317 USD) for the 6900HS/6800S 16gb model. It's a compromise for me as I'd prefer the G15 3070ti model but that retails for $2,999 CAD. Do you think I made the right move?
Wow what a jump in price!! And you definitely can’t get that model of G14 that cheap in the US so you got a steal. I love the G15 but at that price I’d probably stick with the G14 personally unless you can sell it for higher
@@trevorburns91 what’s the gpu on the g14? I just got the open box g15 for 1599 CAD - only has a 3060 (and R7 if yours is R9) but I’m trying to get the best for the least cost on this purchase. You might see if they throw a few more of those on over cad thanksgiving if you were interested! Edit nvm I see you said 6800s or w/e
Absolutely fantastic review. I've been really considering this. I love the versatility and have been wanting something I can do audio production on besides a MacBook pro for a change.
Hey loved the way you have described the things. Can you comment specifically on the hinges as many out there aren't sure about these hinges. Is it really goes down itself as I am very much afraid of the sturdyness of these hinges.
Pre-release reviews also had me worried about that, but the hinges are actually very sturdy. Just as sturdy as most other gaming laptops I’ve used. They feel just tight enough to use the laptop in any orientation without having to use too much force or have it flop over.
Great informative review good job! Love my g15 but god is this flow laptop my dream machine! It check every box! If only my current laptop was not so good i could justify the purchase xD
Hard to say. Mobile AMD 6000 and Ti GPUs were announced January of 2022 but this didn’t hit the market until just a couple months ago and some people still can’t get one. If the delays are the same in 2023 then it could be around August 2023 when we see a refresh of the Flow 💀
A compelling review! How would you say the x16 fan noise is under a medium load? I'm looking for a windows based music production laptop(that can also game and stuff) and this looks pretty good when compared to a g14 for example.
The best review for a laptop (or any Tech product for that matter) i have seen in a few years...hope your channel will continue to grow and that you will be able to produce content with similiar amount of quality. Regarding the laptop...its nice to see such upgradability in a thin laptop...right now I was deciding between buying G15 (4K 3080 ryzen 7) or X16 (ryzen 7 ,rtx 3060) which are on sale right now in my country...after watching some reviews I decided to go for the X16 cause i think it has more balanced specs and is generally a few hundred euros cheaper with the added benefit of having more upgradability options
Yes I think I put an undervolted benchmark screenshot in there somewhere. If I didn’t, it basically led to the same score I got on my G15 but with a slightly higher CPU score. About 11.3k graphics, 11k CPU in Time Spy, and about 15.3k multi-core in Cinebench.
@@JoshCravesTech same! With a 7940hs and a 4070m for generational gains worthy of what has been called desktop-level in past generations, 32gb of ram and 1tb of storage (upgradable to 2tb with the right M.2x2230) sounds like a recipe for an exceptional portable workstation/canvas/renderer/studio/etc. I anticipate your coverage, if you do end up picking it up
A bios update that enhances the speed of the USB ports is promised by AMD/Asus before year-end. It’s already being updated on some laptops to meet the USB4 standard.
@@JoshCravesTech Oh nice. Yeah it wouldn't make sense to release two separate laptop models months apart. I didn't think it was possible to update to a different standard with a bios update.
Interesting review, I wish it had a little bit of info on the webcam and built in mics though...was thinking it might be worth the cost for the 3060 version if I could also get rid of my external webcam.
Thank you so much for the in-depth review! Do you think it's worth waiting a couple months for the i9/4070 model vs the Ryzen 9/3070ti you tested here? I'll mainly be using it for graphic design, video editing, and gaming (battery life isn't super important to me). Thanks again!
Yeah if you can I would wait or grab a bargain. There's a few already selling on ebay and retailers are getting rid of stocks. The x16 hasn't dropped much in price yet but I imagine that will change by the end of the month.
I don’t think you’ll be missing out on too much with the new model other than a little bit of fps in games, and programs will be slightly snappier. I’m not too sure if it’ll be a very noticeable difference yet. But battery life will be cut in half with Intel. If that doesn’t matter to you and you just want top performance no matter what, then maybe it’s worth waiting for the 2023 model, but you’ll definitely save a good $500 or possibly more compared to the new model if you wait for the current X16 to go on sale, which it’s done a few times already and will probably do again soon.
@@JoshCravesTech Makes sense -- thank you for your input! I'll definitely at least wait until the current model goes on sale, and hopefully there will be some hands-on reviews of the new one by then. Are those affiliate links in the description? If so, I'll be sure to use one when the time comes. Really appreciate your help!
@@Melimoz the 16 inch has a great screen right now. Apparently the 2023 version of the 13inch will be getting a similar screen quality with a GFX upgrade. So there's going g to be options. That's what I'm trying to do... wait it out. Happy hunting.

Yeah, I’ve heard people are having trouble with HDR on their GE67’s and Blade 15’s with that panel though. And they’re losing Freesync/Gsync. But the response time and contrast is nice of course
@@JoshCravesTech yeah it's rough, they can get it to work by ddu fresh install but if you cold boot it reverts the fix.
1100 nits of peak brightness can make hdr content a lot more immersive without needing to be in a dark room.
Just another well-made review mate, congrats!
we need more laptop videos from you mate
I think the new X13 is also quite interesting. Should be about as powerful as this one, yeah the 4070 is only 60 W but it should come close.
You’re absolutely right! That will be interesting indeed. I hope to pick one up
I've been waiting for this laptop for 6 or 7 years.
For me, it's shut up and take my money.
It is the best in recent times. Either for professional or serious gaming, it ticks both.
It’s an amazing machine!!
Wow… your reviews are really good
Thank you!!
Great video! As of today, Best Buy has the 3060 version on sale for $1099.
That’s quite a steal!
@@JoshCravesTech This is a pretty amazing laptop. Thanks for helping me decide. As much as I’d like to get the newer model, I didn’t want to break the bank or add any more debt. This is very affordable for what you are getting and will last for quite a while.
35:52 I actually use my laptop in this mode more often than in tent mode because the rubber strips on the deck provide grip, as opposed to no grip in tent mode
One other comment I would like to make about on-the-go workload for illustrator is that it does not enable acceleration for the iGPU, so you will have to set the laptop to standard in Armoury crate, which will end up using more battery
@@JoshCravesTech have you tried affinity apps? wish illustrator ran half as smooth as affinity designer
@@martin_bolha I haven’t, but I’ll have to look into it!
Very jn-depth reviews. Glad I came upon your video
The best review I found online. Thank you Brother. You gained a new active subscriber!
Thank you so much!
This is a proper laptop review! Others should learn from you :)
What an absolutely thorough review. Thank you so much for sharing. I'm seriously considering a move from the Surface Pros to this beast.
Your review is superb 🙏 I love my X16 (RTX 3060). Keep up the great work!
Still loving it?
@@TechDidThis yes, it's near perfect. Choose the Flow that suits your needs. Can't go wrong.
I just ordered one for $1000.
Unbelievable. 😊

Huh?
I was lucky to find this on a open box and clearance combined sale since the 2023 models are coming soon.
32GB, Mini LED, 3070Ti model for basically 50% off.
Cant wait to get it.
50% off is an absolute steal. I’d say you made an excellent choice
@@JoshCravesTech Yeah they only had one so I didnt really get time to think it over before I placed the order. But looks like I made the right choice.
I've had it for a couple of days now, its incredible and I've tried a lot of premium laptops.
@@Profato glad to hear!!
From where?
I found the 3060 one for $1000 & ordered it.
I just saw your review and bought it. Thanks!
Congrats, it’s an awesome laptop!
@@JoshCravesTech to be clear it's a Best Buy open box but if I get it and everything checks out it seems like a killer deal.
@@SuperStudent213 you got it. Think the 6800s g14 and the 3060 G15 are comparable in terms of performance
The best laptop review I've ever seen, very detailed and informative
Thanks bro keep up the great work 👍👍👍👍
Thank you!!
Excellent review! Subscribed
Very detailed video, great job! Thank you!
Dud the release the update to USB-4 on those 2 type-C ports?
What a great review, keep it up, subbed!!
Absolutely fantastic review. I've been really considering this. I love the versatility and have been wanting something I can do audio production on besides a MacBook pro for a change.
this was so great man i loved it! 🔥👌
Thanks!
This would be an artists dream come true
I would really appreciate that undervolting video because my g15 with 6800hs crashed every time...
Do you think should wait for the 7000 amd or Nvidia 4000 refreshes? Seems may be close
Hard to say. Mobile AMD 6000 and Ti GPUs were announced January of 2022 but this didn’t hit the market until just a couple months ago and some people still can’t get one. If the delays are the same in 2023 then it could be around August 2023 when we see a refresh of the Flow 💀
Amazing review!
You are my favourite laptop reviewer my friend. Keep it up.
Thank you!!
Thanks for explaining difference of Best Buy model. Your video was deciding factor to order from Asus.
there should be cover cases and stands for 2 in 1 laptops
Agreed!
Hows the webcam? Ive heard its not the best but was wondering what you think!
Very mediocre, like most gaming laptops. Just a “meh” 720p webcam
A compelling review! How would you say the x16 fan noise is under a medium load? I'm looking for a windows based music production laptop(that can also game and stuff) and this looks pretty good when compared to a g14 for example.
Under medium load it’s still fairly quiet. I use it for music production and don’t notice the fans nearly as much as I did on the G15.
@@JoshCravesTech that sounds pretty good to me👍
The best review for a laptop (or any Tech product for that matter) i have seen in a few years...hope your channel will continue to grow and that you will be able to produce content with similiar amount of quality.
Thank you so much!!! And yes I personally prefer the X16 over the G15 and I really loved the G15!
I never comment but your video is completely perfect. Love u
awesome and very much worked out every detail, thx a lot and keep on!
Die you undervolt the CPU like you did on the Zephyrus?
Yes I think I put an undervolted benchmark screenshot in there somewhere. If I didn’t, it basically led to the same score I got on my G15 but with a slightly higher CPU score. About 11.3k graphics, 11k CPU in Time Spy, and about 15.3k multi-core in Cinebench.
Best review ever thanks
With all of this in mind, how do you feel about the Flow X13? The 2023 redesign is looking very exciting, in particular
I think it looks great! I’m particularly interested in the RTX 4070 model
I anticipate your coverage, if you do end up picking it up
Good to hear display touchwise is great
this review was superlative!
What do you think about the 2023 model of x16 and also the new m16
Wow, another great video for a superb piece of tech, really Asus leads the industry. Thanks man!
Very thorough review. Thank you!
Super setup. Wish it had a number pad.
Only box left unchecked.
At around 16:20 you mentioned new ports later this year. An update to flow x16 hardware or software?
A bios update that enhances the speed of the USB ports is promised by AMD/Asus before year-end. It’s already being updated on some laptops to meet the USB4 standard.
@@JoshCravesTech Oh nice. Yeah it wouldn't make sense to release two separate laptop models months apart. I didn't think it was possible to update to a different standard with a bios update.
someone who knows what they're talking about
unbelieveable
Interesting review, I wish it had a little bit of info on the webcam and built in mics though...was thinking it might be worth the cost for the 3060 version if I could also get rid of my external webcam.
The webcam is not great. 720p, kinda grainy. Mic is pretty good though
Subbed and Liked. Great review, it was just what I was looking for. Thanks for your hard work.

Incredible review
can armory crate be used on any laptop, particularly the features like turning off on board gpu and integrated gpu?
Only on Asus ROG laptops! It’s connected to many hardware features
@@ZigUncut I'll definitely wait for a sale! Thanks for your input -- much appreciated!
@@Melimoz the 16 inch has a great screen right now. Apparently the 2023 version of the 13inch will be getting a similar screen quality with a GFX upgrade. So there's going g to be options. That's what I'm trying to do... wait it out. Happy hunting.

if I wanted to use this for art or creation do people have any stylus recommendations that work with this? Or is this not the right laptop for drawing/designing?
I like the Surface Pen on it and a lot of others do too! As well as the Asus Pen or the MSI Pen 2. CButters Tech is a channel that has covered some stuff about pen usage.
I picked up the Microsoft Slim 2 pen and works nice so far. I ordered a Renaisser 530 and look forward to trying it. The Asus Pen 2 seems to unavailable in the US…but I’ll try that once it’s available.
Does it come with stylus or you had to buy separately?
Some regions get a stylus with their purchase but not the US. It’s pretty random
