Since I am still a diehard original hiya Ghidorah fan imma share a little detail I found out by accident when I decided to display my flameborn Rodan next to the false King. Which is that the veins in his wings actually glow slightly yellow when exposed to uv light, making for a surprisingly well implemented lightning effect on the wings, hope this was helpful!
All this does is make me want a Time Machine so I can get the ‘91 Ghidorah quicker. It’s going to be a masterpiece. Hiya has truly become the Godzilla of kaiju figure making.
From the shadows, i have returned!!! Oh boy, Hiya King Ghidorah got one hell of an update and boy they improved it in many ways. The articulation got some welcome improvement, the details remained sublime, however the big one is: the GOLD. Oh wow the gold is magnificent and a hell of an improvement of the original, no matter what angle Ghidorah dominates. The best part of the toy is they actually gave him the gravity beams, hell yeah!!! The fact the price is very merciful that it is worth owning. Great review, Rob!!!

I already bought the og version and it hasn’t shipped yet, wish the other one was available at the time I had to choose which to get. But they both look amazing, I am very excited.
I honestly think every Godzilla monster figure should come with beam attack accessories if the character in the movie has a beam attack. I hate it when companies make a whole separate figure that has the beam attack accessories. I don't want to buy a repaint just so I can have the option to display a figure with the beam in its mouth. This is something that NECA got right. I got the NECA 1954 Godzilla and it came with an atomic breath attack accessory.
I bought one for my 5yo, and we opened it together. It took 10 seconds for him to break one of the gravity beams. Twisted it to see if it could 🙃 I got it set up, and on top of his bookshelf where he will never touch it again.
Oh, man he's GOOOOOOOOLLLLLDDDDEEEENNNNNNN!!!! Still I had to cancel my preorder of this Ghidorah because one space in which I don't have since the original one is taking some real estate and two buying it just because of the gravity beams in which I realize I could just make my own or some 3rd party. Despite my decision not buying this he still looks badass.
I like the original better but this is cool I just love the originals paint and it looks so realistic. Also, I would not display the gravity beams on because those jaws will def warp..
I like the old school gold colors on the new Ghidorah he looks great plus he's cheaper than the figuarts version and his wings fold to knuckle walk clearly superior
I think the gold on the teeth is intentional. The gravity beams are yellow, so when Ghidorah is producing? breathing? them, his teeth would have a yellow glow, which would translate to gold.
The reference pictures are difficult to tell which version is more accurate colour wise to the movie. What do you think is more accurate to the movie colour?
seems like the name of the game for hiya is "wait for the repaint". even though they knock it outta the park on their first try, they often do even better on the second try. i will be waiting for frostbite blast shimo.
I’m genuinely torn as to which version of Ghidorah I should get. I love the gold deco and the gravity beams of this version, but there’s just something about the realistic deco of the original I can’t get over. Also the golden teeth on this one kind of annoy me lol. Great review!!!
I got mine now too...and what a dissapointment. He is very wobbly in some parts and on the other hand super stiff in other joints like the necks...the horns are bend in any directions...the jaws constantly bend outwards with the beam effect. And Kevins jaw must be removed entirely to put it back for closing. I now got both editions...and i prefer the first release.
I just got mine and my first impressions are super good. The gopd looks really nice but i noticed the gold doesnt look as vibrant as on camera but its alright. The gravity beams fall out easily but i can live with it. Glas they somehow lowered the price compared to the orginal but my local legends raised the price by 40 dollars!! Edit: I forgot to mention when I first tried articulating it even after heating it up, the wing joint slit right off. Really disappointing figure
I knew I was right to decide to preorder this one instead of getting the other…unfortunately I’m waiting on that blasted Star Arc Cthulhu figure to release and so I may have to cancel in case it finally releases next month…or anytime at all. Seriously, I already put in a $24 non-refundable down payment on it and the estimated release date has been pushed from 2nd quarter 2024 to 3rd quarter 2024 everywhere I look.
Yeah I prefer this Hiya release over the other one from an aesthetic point of view. I always prefer my Ghidorahs as a golden boy than whatever KOTM non gravity beam form is trying to covey (It's the white scoots on the neck and belly.)

Hey bro, i think the perfect one for your kid are the movie monster series figures, those have alot of variety of godzilla figs including Ghidorah and theyre made of soft vinyl so i think they should be fairly durable to to be played with.
@sebastienmendoza5476 I was thinking the same thing, he's been into 6" figures now and that was I believe is slightly taller, he's plays with his 6" ultraman kyju figures everyday so that should be perfect. Thanks brother.
I hope there'll be a rerelease of the original for this guy with this neck joints. A lot of folks from where I am at got cut order for the original. Luckily I got mine from the aftermarket, but the previous owner seems to screwed up the ankle hinge. I would want another copy, and a 1.5 would be a perfect excuse. Not to mention, I'll be paying MSRP and not some bloated aftermarket pricing. Maybe I'll either kept the 1.0 as is like 2021 v1, as sort of a novel piece and a testament of Hiya's improvement. Or since it's sooo minor, I'll repaint and mod it into Moonhidorah.
So, I got my copy of their first King Ghidorah a week or so before they announced this figure, and now I'm disappointed that I wasted $120. It isn't a bad figure at all, but this guy and the upcoming Heisei King Ghidorah put the original to shame. I'll probably wait to get the Heisei King Ghidorah just in case they reveal a Gravity Beam version of him, but if they do come out with a Heisei King Ghidorah Gravity Beam version, I'll give my MV King Ghidorah to my local Goodwill, as he is currently on my nightstand collecting dust. He had issues right out of the box and I could never work the wings to get him into the knuckle walking pose. Plus the pre posing of the necks in the MV version kind of bothers me.

In a perfect world, we would get a Ghidorah that has neck articulation like the SHMA SCV, but has the paint and wing posing like the Hiya.
